I average 27 mpg city with my 2015. The head unit has never crashed and I don't mind the placement of the USB at all. I actually kind of like that it is where it is. I love my Terrain and I've really thought hard and have had no complaints at all. I think that the quality for the cost on this vehicle is excellent. What I really like about it is how roomy it is and it has a great field of view. I do appreciate that you took the time to make this video and share your experiences.

Our best cuv we"ve ever owned. Leaked it for 45,000 flawless miles. The little 2.4l and AWD propelled us over the Rockies and back and always had plenty of power, even at 10,000 feet.

I have a 2012 with a black metal flake paint job, chrome wheels, sun roof, leather seats heated and remote start it has every option and I love the car. Have driven it from Chicago to LA and back towing a trailer 4 times it is one great car. I love it. 4 hours of driving between fill ups perfect.

1.) ALL trim levels come standard with floor mats. 2.) The radio lockup concern is a well-known issue that has been addressed by GM engineers in the previous model years. Sometimes the software update fixes this problem, sometimes it does not. Radio replacement is the final option - have yet to replace one not covered under warranty. 3.) The module on top of the battery is your engine control module. Remove the 10 mm bolt on the left and the entire tray slides to the right and comes off. 4.) Cycling power is also possible by removing the appropriate fuse. Hope this helps. Great review!

Great Video. I own a 2012 Terrain and didn't notice one difference. Here is what I liked and didn't like about your video. When you were talking about the view of the center console, it appears you can see everything and the shade device does not need to be further back at all. You mentioned you were about 5,8 (roughly), my thoughts are even if someone was taller they would move seat back and still see just barely everything they need to see. Perfect design in my mind, but love the video. The back up sonar is something I have never thought about. I always backup and check my camera but then check my windows, and seem to get surprised by things in the rear view frequently. It would be great if there was a back up sonar. Thank God you didn't buy the renegade. A little research will help you find any jeep product no matter how great the design, is just a money pit. Never purchase a jeep because you will always be in the shop, unless money is no issue. I am not a jeep hater, I love some of the new models, so slick and clean and powerful looking, but they just don't last and make the dealership a ton of money when you repair with their parts. Brand strategy? I don't know..... Manual sucks for this car, I recently rented the new mustang and its fake manual shifter is like driving a normal shift. This car, doesn't respond at all the the fake manual shifter and I dropped it probably a week after I purchased it. The font is something I never thought about, and actually, after I watched your video I realized I really like the dash and font. Font is purely preference and I find the font they use is very "vehicle" and simple. I only every have it set on the speed/cruise speed anyway and that may be the reason. I think they use the least distracting font possible, to a point. To reiterate, the most surprising thing about this video is that this car is identical in every way I can see to my 2012 and there is 3 years difference. That makes me a little upset that GMC is pumping out the same models, but makes sense logistically. For anyone wanting to go from a car to a SUV, you must purchase the Terrain. I also want to relay I thought your video was awesome and just wanted to voice my opinion for people shopping around. Remember, always purchase a car at least 2 years old, but no older because you want that warranty. Any older, you will pay the new car premium with repairs.

Excellent review! I agree with your review for the most part. I had the 2013 and now a 2016 Terrain. Never had a issue with the crashing though. I also had an issue with using battery cables. I just wound up clamping onto the frame of the vehicle to get it done. The rear camera is almost useless without sonar. The touchscreen is ok but does not compare to other vehicles.

I thought this was " What I LOVE & HATE "? All I heard was you trashing the car. The gauges, YES, GMC did secure the rights. After Pontiac died, they passed their plans to GMC. The Terrain was supposed to be the new Pontiac Torrent. 2nd all of them come with floor mats, not sure why they weren't there, but that's kind of nit picky. 3rd, not all units crash, you should have yours looked at. 4th, are you really upset about water sitting on the hood? I-----.... Never mind. 5th, IT'S an SLE1, you're gonna get what you brought. Remember the term " What you see, is what you get"? You said it yourself " I brought the CHEAPEST Terrain they had ". As a car dealer, this has triggered me in many ways.

I have a 2014 GMC Terrain base model also, that I bought new in March of 2014 and have had no problems with it so far. I just have 6,500 miles so I don't put a lot of miles on per year. I have noticed the muffler dripping condensation after short rides so I'm assuming they won't last long but will see. Mine did come with floor mats by the way, but I did buy Weather Tech ones for the front. I agree the overall mileage is a little lower than advertised but on the highway I'm getting I think close to 35 which is great. So far I'm pretty pleased with the vehicle. I have the 4 cylinder and the powers good enough and I tow a small boat(1,500lbs.) in the summer months which is about the max for this vehicle.

About the battery - not sure why would anyone bother disconnecting it... If your navigation/entertainment unit freezes or reboots itself - just schedule an appointment with dealership as soon as possible, let them re-flash it or replace it completely. Don't disconnect the battery - it will be easier to demonstrate the issue to service department. And if you're using booster cables - you don't need to remove black plastic cover from battery's terminal, the Owner's Manual shows the location (metal stud) where you can connect negative cable to. Also, you mention that looking for jump starting terminals would be harder when it's dark - true, but for emergency cases like these (including swapping spare tire) you should carry an inexpensive headlamp in your glovebox or near spare tire. Plenty of them available on Amazon, for around $20 or so. Get that, and a small carrying case for it if it didn't come with one.

Wow, I test drove an Encore and also thought it was a small, pigme sized knee cramper. So I bought a certified 2015 Terrain last week. All points made are valid, mine came without floor mats as well. Headlights dont seem very bright on mine, window motor is sluggish. Terrain is a toad on any type of incline but that's the price for getting decent mpg. Mine is an AWD and gets 26.5 mpg in city/country driving??? Strange.. 6 crashes in 90 days and battery drain = defective man I'd be pissed! Honda CRVs have the same issue.

And I didn't know that and if I had I wouldn't have bought it... I would trade my jeep for that terrain any day! I guarantee the gmc will last longer then the jeep. Btw they didn't wanna give us floor mats either and we had to fight them and finally got it.

The biggest problem I've had so far was changing a headlamp. Turns out that you have to unfasten a lot of stuff to access it. I found a couple of videos showing different approaches. One from the top and one from the wheel well. Both require tools and removing fasteners. But for me it turned out to be super easy--once I found out where it was. The fender was already detached from the wheel-well cover. On account of I'd earlier hooked the low-hanging front fender on a RR tie in the parking lot and tore it apart, so I didn't even any tools. (I think that the 2014 model has an easily removable cover for access.)

I noticed you had Eco mode on. Turn it of that doesn't do anything besides slow the car down and AC also maps the transmission differently. You will get what seems like more power when it's turned of. I get 24 on my 2LT Equinox AWD. But that's mixed with highway driving. If you have it setup correctly all MyLink and IntelliLink units should have Bluetooth streaming tied in to the system. While in service a Equinox LS that I've had had floor mates and it had the Bluetooth streaming.

Having used my GMC Terrain to jump an older vehicle I can tell you the proper post for the negative terminal is not on the battery (this is also in the manual on page 10-68). Your remote post is to the right of the black cap , visible in the upper right corner on the 19:03 timestamp. Do Not constantly remove your battery, you will interfere with other things. My older GMC is not being driven as much and when the battery died, I had issues with the Throttle Body Control and idling. For your radio 1.) Have it looked at under warranty (it will be two trips, it might be better for you to have a video recording). 2.) Use the passenger side fuse box to perform the "power" reset on the radio until your radio is upgraded/fixed. You may consider a one time reset to factory settings on the radio just for a troubleshooting step. I have the 2015 GMC Terrain Denali V6 AWD, my only issue was the turning radius and a unique playlist issue when using USB storage for music. I use ITunes as my primary library, and Media Monkey to export the ITunes to USB (because for playlists it writes the M3U extended format correctly) . Even if you had the ADP, it has issues with some devices. I can only use mine after rebooting my phone.

I am taking you negative comments one at a time. That depression in the hood is most probably there to add stiffness to the sheet metal. Floor mats were an option on the SLE-1. BTW I own a 2012 SLT-1 AWD. The dome lights ae called "opera lights" hence their operation. I've never had an issue with the infotainment system freezing. You want the rear hatch to open, you need the power hatch which I have including the remote start. My Terrain is a 4cyl, and when you add the SLT trim + the AWD, the vehicle has become too heavy for that little engine. However that my my error. I still get comparable mileage to what you are reporting, this tells me you may have a heavy R foot. My AWD has 8.5" of ground clearance. I have had no issues with my Terrain except for the power driver's seat. It has been replaced twice, thank God for the GMPP. I totally enjoy my Terrain. However I also own a 2015 Outback Limited 2.5i. The two vehicles are very close in size, weight, and hp. The Subaru has way more low end torque.

I had my car since march 1st of 2018 It's a 2017 Terrain Denali with nave. and I hate the navigation unit and it keep hanging up on me while i am driving . It is the most annoying navigation unite i ever used and they put this junk in new cars. I am totally appalled. I so want to rip out this unit and put in something aftermarket. I use my google maps via usb but then i can't listen to the radio when i am driving because i get my direction through the speakers I don't have music on my phone and will not use data to listen to a radio station. Then when i unlock my door with the remote the seat start moving forward before i get to sit in the car for what reason i dont know but why dosn't it wait untile i sit down before it moves forward?

Hi Peter. Just got my 2015 GMC Terrain a week ago. Same base model (SLE-1 except I chose AWD.) Love sitting up higher first of all after 13.5 years with an Alero. Mainly chose it for the leg room (2 kids with growing legs.) I am about the same height as you. Would've liked the remote lift gate button, but oh well. Don't use the technology described at about the 12 minute mark. Mine already had the floor mats included. Great review with the pros and cons. I am loving the new vehicle (any car looks fancy when you have a car that is 13.5 years old.) Thanks for sharing.

I love my 2011 Terrain, but I have to agree with those saying that GM lied (or measured fuel efficiency in circumstances never met in real life).... I bought the 4 banger because I liked the vehicle overall and the 32MPG was the icing on the cake, but I am at 21.3 combined after 4 years of driving it (granted it is mostly on city driving which is not horrible after all) After 4 years of trouble free experience, I still love it as I did on day one, and still think it drives and feels like a much more expensive vehicle. (Even tows a utility trailer with no problem)

+bluesspoonful Agreed. 22mpg seems reasonable... I'm just disappointed that they'd be able to claim a much higher mpg that I'm not sure how you'd ever achieve. Even on roadtrips, I've never averaged that high.

+Peter von Panda I have a 15 Equinox 2.4 and my window sticker says 22mpg combined so I don't know why you are complaining. The 32mpg is highway mileage. I've put 13,000 on mine in 6 months and my avg mpg is 25.4 If you have inteli link which you do, than you have Bluetooth.

I also have a 2011 Terrain. I have the 4 cylinder and my gas mileage ranges from 18-21 mpg. I live around a lot of busy streets, so I have to accelerate quickly a lot, which knocks down the fuel economy and is difficult with the 4 cylinder. It's a nice car though. I just wish I got the real 4 cylinder mpg rather than 18-21. I got the car from my grandma so I'll take it lol.

The leg room in the back is very ample. You can not compare it to the Encore though, because that is a much smaller CUV and I believe it is the smallest in the market along with the Chev Trax. With that said, the Terrain has a lot of space and so does the encore which really surprised me for a CUV as small as it is. My daughter just bought a 2015 Encore today and is on cloud nine.

How about the auto down but not auto up windows?! Maybe a push button start? Not even the 2016 Denali version has it! I'm with you on the no Bluetooth streaming, my 2009 Ford even had that. The Bluetooth system doesn't recognize phonebook entries, you actually have to tell the system the digits you want it to dial. Clearly GM didn't bother to pay enough attention to the details.

The one thing you did not mention about the backseat is it rolls back and forth you can move the back seat forward by pulling up the leaver adding more legroom or more more trunk space. I like the usb where it is because i dont want everyone that rides in my car synchronizing their phone to it. There is Bluetooth in mine. And my navigation is great on my screen

Faulty infotainment system (GMC word, not mine). He should have taken it into the dealer first time it crashed. Just bought a 2015 a month ago. A little higher end than this one, so maybe I’m not a good judge, but I did find some of the complaints he had were very nit-picky. If he wanted some of the features he complained about missing, he should have bought a higher end package. I previously drove a Buick Park Avenue, which is WAY higher end than a Bonneville. And I knew when I bought this I was down-grading and realized I wouldn’t have a lot of the features I was used to. Such is life. Picky complaints seem so petty. Sorry, dude. No sympathy. You bought it, so you should have researched it more.

Peter von Panda This is my dream vehicle. But could that be a manufacturing defect? Have you spoke to GMC? To me that seems like a safety concern, especially if you do not have that type of knowledge of how to jump start a car like me. Also if my car was that new and jump started it that often, you better believe I GMC would be taking this car back. Thanks for showing these type of things, helps me with my decision, still want the vehicle lol

I recently purchased a 2015 Terrain and I, to, have a Love Hate relationship with it. One thing I wanted to point out, that may be my pet peeve, is the fact that the air conditioner turns itself down upon use of hands free. They claim this feature is so you can hear your call. I can promise you thats the farthest from the truth. It's nothing more than a huge pain in my _ _ _! Living in a state that's summer temperatures are usually in the 100's, you do not want you air conditioner to practically shut itself off. I also have another issue, it's with the Navigation system. They say it's a safety feature but..... if your driving and you need to enter information, like a destination.....to bad. You have be in park to access this. I don't know about you but when I'm on a trip and driving down the highway, the last thing I want to do is get off the highway and park my vehicle. The purpose of a navigation is to navigate. Well having to stop every time to adjust or try to figure out things is a major issue. I'm currently searching for a way around this and the air conditioner issue. Any information on resolving these issues would be greatly appreciated. Oh and the mileage thing..... I certainly hope it gets better. I am averaging about 19 to 21 mpg over all.

Concerning jumping the battery. He showed the the red cap that you remove to attach the positive jumper. If you look the right of that post, you'll see a tab that says "neg" and that's where you attach the negative cable. Also, that "thing" atop the battery is a computer and if you need a new battery, better let the dealer do it. I'm not that smart and don't want to chance making a mistake that'll cost big money.

I'm going to pull some info out of my ass to allow you to feel better about some things. At night when people first get in their cars their eyes can get blinded by a quick burst of light until their pupils can readjust creating a potential driving hazard. With this gradual lighting up it could be for your benefit. Point #2 you mentioned the gauges coming on from a black screen. If for whatever reason you lose a light behind that or a computer component these gauges have been known to do that and you can't read your info now. This is a sure way to keep you in the loop if that were to happen. So there you go! I just upgraded your 2 problems for you (=

That red stitching was intentionally left off in the back where kids usually sit and splash food and drink all over so it's easier to keep clean with a few wipes of a moist rag. Same does for passengers if you drive for Lyft which if you don't you can start with this code for a sign up bonus up to $500...BETTER2LYFT. Same code works for a free $50 credit towards your first ride as a new customer. So there ya go! ( ;
