One of the things that excited me most was that the traits were full of role-playing implications, not simple stat effects and numbers. Gives me the good feeling of a RPG focus on the narratives. Also, insect shaped spaceships are kind of awesome too.

As many have pointed out during the deep dive on perks there is 1 perk that nobody got to see what it was . This is just my speculation but I'm hoping for wild wasteland space version for instance you here that wild wasteland sound as you are causing round in space and you see the millennium falcon light speed skip past and 3 tie fighters behind this would be a cool way to have Sci fi easter eggs without any lore messed about with

If you ever played Outer Wilds, some of the seemingly empty planets hold ancient cities/structures containing lost history beneath the terrain. I hope the more barren planets in Starfield have something similar to this and they can reward the player with unique or legendary items + lore.

I can say with absolute certainty that this will not even remotely be an analogous experience to what you're referencing. They've spoke about the lore in the game and theres likely plenty of dedicated work in building on it with the handcrafted areas. But as for stumbling across randomly generated ruins with secrets relating to the wider grounded universe lore. Not a thing. Just more filling in the blanks with wildly divergent speculation.

An interesting mechanic to go with this would be upgradeable scanners. Imagine scanning a planet with a start scanner and you register an anamoly on a planet, but no further information such as location or what it is can be recovered. You can wander the planets of hours trying to locate the anomaly, or come back later with an upgraded scanner. When you come back to this barren planet and scan it with your much improved scanner, you get a location and details indicating that there is a faint power signature coming from the anomaly. The anomaly is a naturally formed cave, and as you go deeper into it that assessment becomes wrong. You find an underground alien city, something kind of like the Dwemer cities and blackreach. You find out that the now dead residents of this ancient but highly advanced city fled the surface due to the sun increasing in size and destroying habitable life on the surface.

I think the reason you can't seem to pick up spacesuits in the showcase is that it was inhibited. In the shots where we are given a good look at the looting, they hide it, but in instances where we get only a fleeting glimpse of the loot menu the spacesuits are there. They probably did this so as not to spoil the different spacesuits you can get in the game.

Tbh I wouldn't put it past them to just have a lot of cosmetics not drop at all or only on specific enemies, I am a bit confused about the all or nothing mentality when it comes to these armor/apparel drops since other bgs games have had exceptions to the rule in the past (some fallout 4 enemies not dropping their clothing or fallout 76 enemies basically never dropping it), I think we might just not get some cosmetics dropped for no in-game or gameplay reason (like speculated here with damaging the suit) especially since there seem to be cosmetic microtransactions just like in fo76, I jsut don't think it will be to the same extend as it is in that game

I've not had such a longing to play a game for more years than i can remember, the press releases, content and depth of the game, expansion, DLC and mods, all make for a deep and immersive experience, with lots to explore and never playing the same game twice. Sure there'll be initial hiccups, bugs and gradual implementing of content, adding to and building on a strong foundation. I am focused on Base Building, Ship Customization, exploration and finding my niche within the Starfield verse. I also enjoy the build up to release of quality games, it just adds to the immersive experience and allows time to take it all in, so exciting. My big fear is the procedural generation. I won't be able to be 'invested' in a random planet enough to explore and build a base there? Like there's no _'This place has this worldly/lore significance; the single white tree that grows there is said to be were the goddess Mara shed a single teardrop etc etc', and it's also next to the Temple of the Ancient Dragon Priest, and there's an inn nearby that sells unique sweet rolls',_ y'know? And like, just as a human, how many of these biomes are going to be actually appealing? Like I could wander around forests and mountain wilderness IRL forever, but what about a planet covered in nothing but 4 types of giant mushroom, y'know?

0:00 Honestly, I prefer Starfield's nasa-punk theme over a super sci-fi one with tons of aliens. That's been done so much, and this stage of relatively early human space exploration hasn't been done enough. Exploring the universe would feel so much less interesting if it's already full of aliens wherever you go, you see that with NMS all the time. 9:30 My money is on this actually being a human infected with a parasite, possibly main story related. We've seen references to aliens across various planets being "diseased", and they show one infected with something called "brain sprout", which appeared to be an animal infected with some sort of parasitic organism with lots of tentacles not unlike the humanoid we see here. My guess is this will serve a major plot point in the main story. 12:38 The thing about those vaults and many locations in Fallout and Elder Scrolls, their exact locations don't really matter much. They have excellent stories, themes, and lore in these locations, and are often a blast to explore. But they often would have played virtually identically if the entrance was half way across the map. Sometimes they have tie-ins to nearby locations, quests, or NPCs, but by far in the majority of cases the interesting parts come from in the location itself. Far as I have heard, the locations themselves are not randomized, just their placements. They are still Bethesda locations, you just don't know exactly where they will be now. I don't know how well they will be pulled off, or how many quality locations there will be, we'll just have to wait and see. But I see no reason to think they will be terrible just because they are placed randomly, since exact placement is not really an important factor in most Bethesda locations.

But in a space game there was no way for them to do everything handcrafted with the planets and actually complete the game in a relative time. They didn’t want to make a Star Citizen. They wanted to make THE space game where you can explore and the wonders like a No Man’s Sky but have in depth rpg mechanics like a Star Citizen but not as a complete space sim so everyone can get into it. Think this game is perfect for hardcore space sim fans and regular open world game fans.

If they pull off what they're trying to with Starfield, I strongly suspect, as Todd's last game, ESVI will at least be the whole continent with each of the main 10 daedric realms fully realized. There would possibly be extra pocket realms, and dlc would be of places like Atmora, the Islands between Akavir and Tameriel etc. I see no reason why they would develop procedural generation on this magnitude and not fully utilize it in their next game. Even if you treated each province as 1 planet and each realm as 1 planet, that's still only around 20 planets. Much less than 1000, and completely manageable by 1 larger team

@@TripleA9ish I have to disagree I think the issue is design philosophy not technology. However, you make a good point the tech is a big investment so they might find someway to use it in an Elderscrolls game. maybe some way of accessing large daedric of otherwise magical realms filled with high teir loot is more likely.

@@fredrikkirderf2907 I know what you mean as far as design and setting philosophy, but let me ask you. Can you name a large game system that wasn't elevated in their next game? Hearthfire turned into settlements, turned into base and ship building, which will probably turn into kingdom/city building in ES6. We've gone from being able to craft your own gear/enchanting to mods in Fallout to even more mods/ship mods in starfield, to most likely an extensive customization process for weapon and armor design in ES6. Radiant Quests are more and more expansive, complex and numerous in each successive game. I see no way that proc gen is slimmed down in the next game.

the main skepticism i have heard from people is about how much life on planets their will be. Howard has said there is about 10% of life out of the 1000 planets. and since he mentioned "goldilocks zones", Life will probably be in those planet zones alone. This makes sense and is more realistic than if life were on every planet, after all, 10% of life out of 1000 planets is a hell of a lot more life than what we have found in the real galaxy/universe

EXACTLY. Their world they created is more on the grounded in then a Star Wars or Star Trek. I don’t get why ppl don’t understand. The lack of gore is something that bothers me a little, it doesn't have to be Dead Space levels of gruesome combat, but the fact there's little visual impact with weapons and explosions feels rather..dull. Another thing I noticed is that planets seem to have the same sort of layout? By that I mean there's hills, some mountains and lakes depending on the planet, but we didn't see any significant changes in the terrain, such as big canyons or insanely massive mountains or lush forests/jungles. But I'm sure mods will fix that eventually if that's the case, over all looking forward to September!

Hopefully The company has learned a bit of the community since the last offering. We could however, end up with 1500 NPCs individually voiced, all trying to convince us they sell treasures, not junk. By the time you realize the truth and are left feeling ripped off, the modding community will have released the unofficial patch and created some simple tweaks to make the experience worth the expense. I am apprehensive of BGS but I have every confidence in this community that has already committed to the game. We know it's neither junk nor treasure until it's worked into a gem.

That seems to be what they're going for. That content is as handcrafted as everything else. 🤷‍♂️

20:51 I feel like I've seen a lot of people say they want to have life paths in games that determine what content you get to interact with, like the beast hunter quest that's locked unless you chose to be a hunter. I think a big problem with that style of game design is that you just end up like "oh it's neat that i can be this thing because of a choice i made 7 hours ago when making my character" and don't think most sandbox rpg games do that too well. I'd much rather have the option to take a quest on any playthrough and just take it upon myself to either say "nah, my guy wouldn't do this beast hunter quest, he's never even been in the woods!" Or "my guy hasn't been hunting, but maybe now's a good time to learn!" and provide myself with the option instead. Intrinsic motivation used to be one of the main drivers of these games and it seems like everyone just wants to be told where to go now.

My ideal scenario for handcrafted vs procedural, is that there is dense handcrafted areas, like New Atlantis, but when it comes to resources, its kind of up to you how and where you want to go. I love the freedom to discover for myself a beautiful alien landscape and decide that is where I want to set up my base. And I think that would fit well in their idea of realism. Most of space will not have that many people, and that is okay, I think the number of planets is there so that every playthrough is unique and exploratory, and the bones of the game, the story, is set.

I don't see the daggerfall comparison enough. I knew way back when in 2018 or whatever when they mentioned they were playing with procedural generation they were going back to their roots. Too far back for some people. They wanted them to go back but not that far apparently. People are extremely attached to BGS's contemporary open world style, Morrowind - fallout 4.. Anyway I think it's really cool and I'm glad they're taking a risk and trying something innovative. That's so rare to see in AAA development and I think they also don't get credit for that. People complain all day about every Ubisoft game being the same and how the AAA industry is too safe, but then an AAA dev does something different and risky and is blasted with negative skepticism. I was never worried about the procedural generation because they did daggerfall. It's nothing new for them. People have an idea of what they wanted the game to be though, just like those mad it isn't science fantasy with humanoid aliens. Judge art by its success in what it's trying to be, not what you want it to be. You'll be a lot more satisfied if you do.
