As a relative newbie, I'm SO happy to have found the combo of X-T4 and 16-55mm. (And lucky I could afford it). For where I am right now, it's making me take more interesting photos than my previous lazy f1.2 snaps on my 56mm prime etc! I fully expect to organically shift back to primes soon-ish. But what a journey and a happy time with the zoom right now. Loving your honesty. Your approach and vibe makes it easier for guys like me to feel free to explore a bit, without feeling like I'm "doing it wrong". My camera's giving me energy and I'm exploring how to start posting my pics online, and that's exciting enough for me right now :) Life 100% better with a camera than without. Well, maybe 30%! As an aside, my rule of thumb is looking for things that are 'emotional, pleasing, meaningful or mysterious' to photo. Having such triggers definitely increases reaction time, taste and consistency.

Switching from Canon to Fuji has been the best decision ever. Sony is one of those cameras people buy because they want to follow the crowd. Being able to shoot 4k f log with a 24mp sensore and how compact and cheap it is its a no brainer to switch. Dont get me wrong canon is amazing but having to spend over 3k to get 4k video and good images thats to much for me.

Hmm what do you mean following the crowd? I own neither Sony nor Fuji but looking at the price of lenses it really is close, at least for a budget minded shooter like me. If sigma releases 1.4 trio on Fuji it would be a bit different story, but still, lens prices are close enough to make me consider Sony, just saying

To be fair, I'm currently contemplating to make the jump from Canon to Sony. I've been using a Canon R5 since it came out so around 2 years. And before that I've been using mainly Canon. However I've also used the Sony A6500 and A7M4/A7SIII on other occasions. I'm leaning towards changing the R5 for a Sony A7MIV. And no, that's not because I want to "follow the crowd". But instead, I think the A7MIV its features are very nice and it indeed, is cheaper then the R5 (also considering lenses). I'd be very curious to know why Fuji might be the better choice though! 🙂

3:37 I'd argue the opposite: If you have a rudimentary knowledge of how shutter/aperture/iso work together, jumping in on a fujifilm with those dials will be pretty intuitive if you're coming from another system. It's the menu diving I've always found frustrating when switching to a different system, or borrowing a friend's camera. And it was one of the selling points of me getting a fujifilm... I HATE menu diving. Fuji's when I have to use it, and now that I know it a little is pretty intuitive. So win win.

I've had a Fuji System for about 2 and a half years now and shoot Gig Photography which is low light and harsh conditions at times and still find it fantastic. The backlit sensor is great and perfect for what I need. Am sure some full frame camera could do the same job, or maybe better, but not at the price I've paid for the fuji kit I have, or the size and weight of the camera and lenses. Plus these Fuji cameras are absolutely gorgeous which shouldn't be important... but is :)

APS-C has always been best for concerts. You need reach, and to move around a lot, and I've never been as miserable doing it as I was with a full frame camera. (D700) On APS-C an 85mm sub-F2 prime will do 95% of everything you need, but on full frame nothing that small will do it.

@@Vinterloft Yeah I love the reach of my 56m 1.2 at gigs. I've never walked away from a gig without any useable pictures no matter the light so am very pleased with the Fuji for it. I'd give a full frame a go given the chance but I never stand there wishing I had one.

Spot on. I am a Fujifilm XT3 user for about 3 years also and I have the same opinion about it. It´s the best quality/price/portability relation out there. For me, the most important characteristic is that due to its compact size it pushes me to shoot more and care less about gear I have to carry.

Very thorough long term review on Fujifilm man. I agree with the angle of Fujifilm offering the best package for the money. When I bought the X100 original series 11 year ago, I knew I had found the right system (even with its quirks and issues.) Heck, I even started a KZfaq channel about it and now I’m the host of FUJILOVE Conversations. It brought me more than just a good camera system, it brought soul and purpose to my photography and inspired my storytelling. Keep up the good work (and please buy an AC system ;)

Thanks for this video. I was considering the Nikon D3500 as my first camera but the moment I saw the range FujiFilm offered, I was in love. This really helped me settle the debate. The only reason I didn’t switch to fujifilm from canon and instead chose Sony was size. I tried holding a fujifilm xt4 in store abd multiple time it almost fell from my hands . I have big hands lol. People recommended a cage but I figured that would increase the weight so I went with the more ergonomic Sony a74 . If I had smaller hands I’d definitely get the xt4. Portable and just as good

I absolutely agree with everything you said, Roman. In fact, just a week ago, I was in a canoe that tipped over while I had my older camera on me in a money belt bag (xt2). At first, I thought that the camera and the lens (35mm, f2) were dead, but after several days drying in a bag with rice, they came alive! Of course, both need to be sent to be cleaned and somewhat repaired, but I am so impressed with the fact that after about 4-5 minutes in water they were not completely ruined! (Well, I'm also glad that that didn't happen to my xt4:).
@TheBanjoShowOfficial

This misconception that rice fixes all is kind of funny. Internal liquid damage will not be resolved by sticking enclosed devices in bins with rice. These devices have printed circuit boards in them, if even one drop gets in the wrong place, it will corrode and you'll be left with a paper weight. I'd like to see how people fair with silica gel packets, but I doubt it's much better.

Great review Roman! Like you, I routinely evaluate other brands but always come back to Fuji. Since you are not afraid to get your gear wet, I would highly recommend the X-H1 instead. The build quality and weather resistance is far superior to the T3 or T4. It has worked flawlessly for me and I've shot in some pretty nasty conditions. Or maybe just wait until the X-H2 next year. Anyway, thanks again for suffering through the heat and putting this vid together - much appreciated!

After owning three different Fuji cameras (X-A10, X-T100 and now X-S10) I can say that freezing could be related to a type and/or brand of memory cards. Bought the X-S10 six months ago and it never froze with SanDisk memory cards. Fuji X-T100, that I owned before X-S10, did freeze more than couple of times while using Kingston cards. I went with SanDisk cards and never had any issues with my camera freezing.

I got the XT4 about a month ago and the main thing I love about it is the film simulations. I'm a bit lazy with learning color grading as I feel I have a lot to learn about the camera first. The built in film simulations allows me to just focus on shooting the right shots, chopping them up in post with/without music and bam, upload. Overall the Fuji color science is unmatched imo. They don't get as much love as Canon or Sony in the video world at least but I think that will change soon.
@professionalpotato4764

Agreed. The 10 bit is amazing. Coming from Canon, and having used Sony's at work, Fuji makes it soooooooo easy to get the colours right. Canon was usually over-saturated like a pack of Skittles, and Sony often had poor colours (The A7S2 is legendary for being shit). The newer models are good, but I haven't had much experience with those. These days I only use film sims on my photos, with minor tweaks whereas in the past I would fiddle in Lightroom for much longer. Fuji sometimes can have a tint, but I guess one just needs to be careful with WB.

Hello! I know it’s months later but I used to have D7000 and 50mm lens. I’m not sure which Fuji camera you’re looking at but it will be MUCH improved in every way compared to the D7000. AF, features and settings, etc will be much better. The weight will also be lighter and more compact since there’s no mirror for the viewfinder. I usually use Pentax full frame and Leica cameras after I sold the D7000. Now that I have Fuji xpro 3…my Pentax and Leica cameras sit in their bags and not used. I really enjoy the Fuji that much

As an x-pro2 fan, I just wish Fuji would still be doing the Kaizen (continuous improvement) firmware updates for their latest film simulations. I dont think that would cost them much to do while not keeping folks from not purchasing newer models. In fact, I think getting back to one of the core principals that initially made Fujifilm cameras so great would help them againt Nikon, Sony and... of course there are limits, but Kaizen should not only apply to bug fixes to the firmware for the latest models.

I have the xt 30 and I've used it every day for the last year and I love it only down side is the auto focus has issues sometimes. Also having used Canon,Sony,Nikon and Olympus I think fujifilm makes some of the best lenses.

I was so worried about battery life when buying the XT3 a few years ago, but its not a huge deal. The aftermarket batteries work fine (not quite as long), but buy like ~5 of them and one or two fuji batteries and its not a problem ever for any situation for the lifetime of the camera. I would never consider "battery life" a make or break on a camera again after owning the fuji since the camera is sooo good.

This video is making me more tempted to buy an XT-3 with 18-55mm f/2.8-4 or 23mm f/2 lens as my everyday shooter simply because of the analog like controls and the look and colors of the images. I love shooting film but it can get expensive, and because I’m a micro four thirds user. Overexposing and easily recovering highlights is something I’m already used to as micro four thirds sensors work in a similar fashion. With my Olympus OM-D E-M5 III and Lumix G9 being able to recover blown out highlights that only full frame users could dream of doing. Hence why they have to underexpose. So I may be looking into a Fuji XT-3 or XT-4 to get in the summer.

Hi! Any thoughts on the ISO? I love shooting at night and my now old canon is giving me awful noise at ISO 800.

last week i got a new X-H1 with 2 fujinon lenses 35mm 1.4 and a 56mm 1.2 all for 900. I have been so impressed with the bokeh, never tried a aspherical lens and wow its so nice. My photos look almost like medium format, coming from a canon eos r, super impressed. 😮‍💨🔥🎞️📷

Would Fuji bodies do well for photojournalism? I currently have a Sony A7RIV and am thinking about switching to an X-T4 if it’d work well

Never had a single freeze on any Fuji camera, but then again, I also take care to used Sandisk 300mb/second SD cards, so they are blazingly fast

I bought my XT-3 with the 18-55mm at the perfect time it seems, got it for £1149 all in and they are asking more than that Body Only now. I do have a small scratch on my lens, I think that’s due to not having a lens hood on when using a black rapid style sling strap when waking through woods but it’s fine and causes no issue to photos. Never had it freeze up though.

Thanks for the very thorough review! My use/abuse is very similar in that I'm taking my camera out in extreme conditions and don't/can't baby it. However, it's stood up exceptionally well and has always bounced back despite being submerged fully in water, multiple heavy rainstorms in the mountains, moisture/humidity to the point where my EVF is completely fogged out, sand etc to name a few 😅. Except the last time but that was my fault completely (I left it outside my tent accidentally in a heavy rainstorm overnight). Can I ask approximately how much Fujifilm has charged you when you send the body in to be serviced for the water damage you had talked about (ie. When water leaked in through the screen?). Debating whether to try to repair or just upgrade from a well loved XT2. Thanks!!

I have been shooting Fuji (professionally) since 2018. Currently I have the XT3 and X100V. I’m thinking of adding another body, either a XT4 or an XPRO3 and I can’t decide. Do you recommend the XT4?

Finally a no-bullshit discussion. Maybe a line of silicone sealant around the screen. Trying to decide between Olympus and Fujifilm for survival videos.

im shooting sports and sometimes the light condition is not so good, so i have to bump up my iso to 6400/12800 on my 5dm3 and 70-200 f4. since fuji has 50-140 2.8 the question is: is x-t4 good at iso 3200-6400?

I bought the X-T2 that I still use maybe 5 years ago, almost entirely for the WR. I actually wanted the X-E3, but I'm a hardened traveller in varying extreme climates. About 2 years ago the mech shutter failed, and I have tried to contact fujifilm about it, however they told me that they only service it in the country of purchase. 😒 My X70 also has dust, and the XF18 stopped auto focusing entirely. However, I'm yet to find the value and features on another platform.

Must admit I was surprised when you said the x-t cameras are not particularly good for event & sport photography. I shoot event & sport extensively, although not exclusively, and would not consider changing to full-frame at any price. I bought an x-t2 way back when you had to join a queue to get one, with the groslsy underrated 18-135: lovely lns & I still wish I didn't have to p/x it to afford the 16-55 😣. However, I've organically grown the system to the point where I now permanently carry the 16-55; 50-140 & 100-400+1.4t/c; with x-t3 & x-t4 bodies, in a Lowe Slingshot bag on my e-bike, some 20 miles or so, to my local surf spots year-round. Try that with a full-frame rig! I've consistently shot surfing, mtb, rock concerts, festivals, coastal storms, yadda yadda... In company with many other Togs & never once heard a comment that my shots are 'only APSC' or inferior in any way other than due to operator error.

I have a Nikon d850 full frame with 46mp. And I still use my Fuji film cameras more. The lenses are amazing. The bodies are light . I just wouldn’t use one in the artic with a blizzard like I would with a pro dslr body.

I live in the far north of Norway and have never had any issues in blizzards with Fujifilm from the X-T1 until today. The only camera to ever "fail" on me in a snowstorm was a Nikon D700, but that was because of the vertical grip contacts getting wet, just had to shoot without the grip.

Nice video. There's quite a large community of Fuji X-shooting wedding photographers who might not agree, though! Also, as much as I love my expansive Fuji set-up, I'm really not sure it's a great choice for landscape. I'm craving more detail, and the quirky RAW issues (which you skip over, really) bring me down at times.

I agree 100% I don't care who makes my camera - as long as it does what I need to do then I'm happy. But as all cameras are pretty well capable of amazing IQ these days, it came down (for me) to the user experience. And Fujifilm (again, for me) pressed all the right buttons (pardon the pun). I find Fuji cameras a joy to use, and quickly came to prefer their mode selection method over a standard PSAM dial really quickly. The fact that the GFX100S has gone over to a PSAM dial is the major reason for me not wanting one as an upgrade from my 50R. Customer service - I've had 1 lens repaired and turnaround was 48 hours from dropping it off at my local Fuji camera shop to getting it back. This weather is something else though. The (far from scientifically calibrated) thermometer on my north facing back wall reached 34 degrees on Tuesday. It's the hottest I can ever remember.

Loved my Fuji X100V but it got wrecked by water damage and they wanted near full price to replace it. Definitely not a brand for great weather sealing but the image quality and fun of using them somewhat makes up for it.
