Putting money on the side for rent and utilities while at your parents is such great advice! I had been thinking of doing that and now I definitely will!

!!!!! It’s very much an “out of sight, out of mind” type of thing when you contribute to it, but then having a whole fund for rent & utilities when you need it is SO helpful

I saved up the downpayment for my condo, plus emergency and moving expenses while living with my parents. Even if you don't plan on buying (or can't right now) it's a really great idea to save up as much as you can for future living expenses while living at home!

Let me just say this as a 30 year old woman who was a foster child and has lived on my own since the day after my high school graduation. While it’s a privilege to have help, it’s also ok to have and accept help especially from your parents. This idea that people in their early 20’s need to be self sufficient is wild. In many other countries people live at home until they are married. So, yay for doing it on your own but even if you have had or need help along the way, that’s nothing to be ashamed about. So many of my mistakes in my early 20’s came because I HAD no one but myself.

Because that’s why NYC rent is so high- because many 20-somethings get help from their parents, and that lets landlords charge whatever they want, because someone will have their parents pony up. If more 20-somethings were self-sufficient, city rent would be lower, and there would be more opportunities for housing and therefore work and careers for people who don’t have rich parents.

Hey hannah! I love this video bc its literally so accurate as to how expensive living in ny is for literally no reason. I've grown up in ny my whole life and i def recommend doing different shopping trips different days of the week(ex. monday will be grocery shopping if needed, saturday is laundry, etc). I also recommend trying to utilize your kitchen to the best of ur ability bc eating out can become rly costly and end up being the end of u lol. Also I recommend having a menu/meal planning for the week to help u to not spend a lot of money on just random food. If u want, u can prob just look up random recipes. I also recommend since u live in the city to take advantage of pop up stores or free museums, stuff like that. I hope these tips help u a lot, I can't wait for more of your vlogs!!! love u

Hannah, I also wanted to say that my daughter lived with us while she searched for a home to buy. We didn’t charge her a lot of money and she was able to save money for her home payment. She is now a proud homeowner.

as always, our Queen NEVER disappoints! It’s really inspiring and at the same time, very informative to see videos such as this. ONE OF THE FRIKIN REASONS WHY I LOVE HANNAH!!!! All of the things she tells us are based on what she experienced, its really touching how she shares all of it with us. Thank you Hannah, for always taking us with you and for sharing your life with us. We will support you always! LOVE YA!!!

It is so weird how cost can differ from country to country (or even from region to region). I always wonder what the earnings are vs cost (not that I need to know from anyone particularly). Just to give an idea of cost varying, what Hannah pays for a week is what most people pay for their loans for a house per month in Belgium (depending on how expensive the loan was of course). But it is always nice to have an idea of expenses around the world I think :)

Hi! If you recycle the bottles you get the 5 cents back to use towards groceries and things!
@HannahElise

WHAT do I have to recycle them at a specific place??? I just put them in the recycling at my apartment!
@hannahbonine3234
@hannahbonine3234 2 жыл бұрын
@@HannahElise In a few states, NY included, you collect bottles and cans separately and take them to somewhere that does redeemables and you get the 5 cents back. It takes up extra space to recycle them separately and you’d most likely need to physically take them somewhere rather than leaving them out with your usual recycling, but depending on how easy it is to redeem in the city it could be worth it. Where I live there are some grocery stores where you can do it, or there are separate stores just for redeemables.

It’d be really interesting to see this in a month long time frame, which I know is super long, but I think it’d be nice to see how each week can vary. Also curious if you budget in any way? I live on my own and don’t budget but try to spend as little as possible. Interesting to see how others manage
