Very nicely explained Arjun, the fact that you are willing to reveal personal expenses is super impressive, not many do that.

As an Austinite, what will you say about the cost of living in Austin, TX vs Mountain View, CA for a Software Engineer who works in say Google if he wants to maximize his savings by living extremely frugal? Well, both are very expensive, but if in same company, say Google in Austin, the decreased salary for the same job is made up well by NO State Income Tax and cheaper house prices (to buy as well as to rent) but then the food, water, electricity bills, gas and other taxes such as sales tax and property tax makes it much more expensive. On the other hand at Google Mt. View, CA has expensive houses, HIGH State Income Tax, and many other expenses along with cheaper food, water, gas and electricity bills and much Higher Salary. Also Mt. View is a little too expensive, so living in SF and travelling about 3 hours per day is tiring too. So all considered, in which situation do you think an extremely frugal person can save more money (also considering buying a house along the way)? If it is more or less the same amount you can end up saving no matter how cheap you live, do you think that Bay Area (SF if not Mt. View) will be a better option considering more opportunities? This is considering someone is a level 3-4 Software Engineer making roughly about 120-150 K base salary (depending on TX/CA). Although I am not even in the US yet but I am planning to do my Bachelor's and Master's in CS there and this will certainly help me a lot in college decisions. Looking forward to your reply. Great content as always! 😀

The cost of living in Austin has been going up recently with more tech companies moving to the city. Even then, for me personally, I prefer to be here Vs. CA because of a lot of factors that you mentioned (taxes, housing). You still make a decent enough salary but the cost of living is so much cheaper. COVID has caused a big exodus of people from places like California to Texas for these very reasons.

@@FinancewithArjun That was the answer I was looking for. That means Austin will save someone more than in CA bay area living real frugally. Thanks!

Hey Niharika, thanks so much! This is a bit of a grey area so it's best to check with an immigration lawyer. I myself do not

Ah, a fellow red devil, I see! Great video, especially including fixed payments is the right thing to do! But, please try not to use ads in an annoying way - the one placed before the total reveal was quite annoying. So, if it makes no monetary difference, just have them all placed at the start/something else. Or look for other least intrusive ways... :) Also, I think proportions are useful - so knowing what you make in a week will be useful to asses what's a good spend ratio. Like do you try to follow the 50/30/20 or any other rule?

Since I've already saved up an emergency fund and I'm not saving for a down payment or anything currently, pretty much every dollar I don't spend goes into investing across my 401k, HSA, IRA, taxable brokerage and crypto. This is above 50% in my case.
