I immediately bought a house in a cerulean sea after watching your last video!! I haven’t picked up a book in at least 6+ years and getting back into reading seems like the right thing to do in this chapter of my life (hehe Chapter 😏). And I’m thoroughly enjoying it! My friend even got excited I’m getting back into reading and bought the book as well. Thanks for giving me the motivation to learn how to read again!! 😄

I read Frankenstein for the first time this past October. I loved it! I was shocked at how much I loved it and how human it really was. I'm definitely a Night Circus stan (it's one of my favorite books of all time). I tried Piranesi but put it down about 25% in. Everyone keeps saying it so good so I might need to pick it up again.

i loved piranesi as well especially because i knew nothing about it going in. the world is just so bizarrely beautiful and i found piranesi to be such a comforting character, naturally curious, good and so full of love for life. to be honest i wasn't the biggest fan of the reveal at the end because it kind of took me out of this enchanting labyrinth i had gotten lost in and grown to love, just like piranesi himself. but i still enjoyed the book very much and i'm glad you did, too. looking forward to your next videos :)

ahh i'm glad to hear you're enjoying mistborn so far :D i'm so happy that benji's a sanderson fan so that he can keep pestering you to read it LOL some books recommendations: Cinder! a tale of cinderella twisted into an urban dystopian world, where the main character Cinder (aka cinderella) is an android mechanic! it was really fun to see a version with such a strong female lead Daughter Of The Moon Goddess! a fantasy novel inspired by chinese myths of chang'e, the moon goddess! chang'e was exiled from celestial empire for stealing an elixir of immortality, and so the main character, her daughter, sneaks into the empire to challenge the emperor to free her mother. i was honestly crying for days after I read this, it was so good !! The Mysterious Benedict Society! where a group of extremely talented children join a mysterious society to go on a secret mission to foil an evil plot! honestly basicallyyyy a YA novel but it's so cute and clever and i personally think it's worth it haha and finally... The Priory of the Orange Tree (tbh my favorite of these hehe)! if you want a whole fantasy series in one gigantic novel, this is it. this book creates a classic adventure fantasy novel with beautifully crafted landscapes and lore, and throws all the sexist stereotypes out the window. the woman saving the king, instead of it being the other way around? why not? an actually strong queen for once that isn't overshadowed by the king? sure! its a wonderfully descriptive world filled with capable yet relatable protagonists, and the lgbtq relationships were so cute I was honestly sad there wasn't a sequel xD. the only bad part (i'd say) was that the ending seemed a bit abrupt, that's it! oh wow, i got a bit carried away with these recommendations haha, sorry for the huge wall of text! hope you have a great rest of your day :D

Oh you're up for something really great with Mistborn. If you enjoy fantasy, Sanderson is awesome. I would really recommend both Terry Pratchett and Neil Geiman. Former is more on the fantastic side (Discworld series), but in an awesome intelligent and ironic way. Geiman is just everything, and I can't recommend him enough. Depending on the genre you could try Neverwhere or American Gods. :)

Hi Chris! I really like your book selection, I can definitely agree with the Song of Achilles being both heart crushing and beautiful at the same time. I would really recommend reading The Watchmaker of Filigree Street and it’s sequel The Lost Future of Pepperharrow. They’re one of my favourite series and hold a really nice blend of historical fiction, fantasy and queer romance! I feel like they can be kind of underrated. Hi Chris. Great selection of books. Frankenstein is my all time favourite book. I’m obsessed with the story of Mary Shelley and how she came to write this book. The themes are so big and still current for today. The discourses between Frankenstein and the creature are some of the best bits. I’m sorry you didn’t like The Night Circus, but I guess it’s down to personal taste. I get that the character are not as well developed as the could be, but for me the reason why I love the book is the world that is created through the descriptions. It is so vivid you could be there. I have Piranesi on my shelf to read. I have heard it is a very strange book and you are not sure what is going on. I think I will either love it or hate it. If you like fantasy books Frances Hardinge’s “The Lie Tree” is pretty good. It’s a Victorian gothic murder mystery but fantastical. I’m loving seeing what you are reading and look forward to some good book recommendations. Have a great day.

ah I had the same feelings about ‘the night circus’, didn’t love it and just couldn’t get invested. but, erin morgenstern’s other novel, ‘the starless sea’, I LOVED! very dense and rich but such a gorgeous story (also queer which is a lovely little bonus to me!!)… would highly recommend it, especially if you like the clash of fantasy and reality :) oh also. I just read piranesi and i’m with you… definitely a slay!

So, this is technically a kids book series, but it gets really heavy, Gregor the Overlander by Susanne Collins (idk if i spelled her name right) But this boy from new york finds and underground world full of giant rats, bats, bugs, etc. and a group of people called the underlanders, who went underground hundreds of years ago. There's a prophecy, there's action scenes, there's war, and there's normal every day struggles, money, family, having to deal with a two year old. I re-read this series atleast once a year.

u should read six of crows by leigh bardugo if u haven’t already!!!!!! the plot is kind of difficult to explain but essentially this guy kaz is given a heist mission thing and it’s lowkey impossible and he needs a crew of the best people but he’s offered a very large sum of money so he forms a group of what he believes are his best bet and they go try to pull it off. i’m honestly not big on the fantasy genre anymore but the characters, relationships, and the writing of the book are so insanely well done that i will never find a book that will get a higher rating. (besides the second book) second book: crooked kingdom - now that we already have most of the background for a lot of the characters there’s so much development, especially for one character, matthias, whose whole story is written so well and beautifully. both books are sort of long but the plot is so encapsulating you could finish both in a short period of time

My thoughts exactly for the “Night Circus”. It was a drag, and had glimmers of momentum, but overal lacked any real development which is odd because they have so much to time make us love / understand of characters. Also the romance was non existent and should have been flushed out.

I read Mistborn! It was good... I wasn't like, obsessed with it, and the whole trilogy left me exhausted. The world building is so immense and also so... dull... It was a weird trilogy. BUT AS FOR RECOMMENDATIONS, I have three! The first is The Golden Mean, by Annabel Lyon. It's a BEAUTIFULLY written look at the relationship between Aristotle and his pupil Alexander the Great. The second is Tin Man, by Sarah Winman, which tells the story of Ellis and Michael and their relationship, and it's like... deeply sad, but so beautiful, like I've never been so shook by a novel before. And it's very short, not a long a read. The third is A Chronicle of Crowns, which is a high fantasy, deeply POV-driven series... and also my book (so I mean, if you want a copy just let me know, haha). I've got 3 books in the series out, a fourth on the way. I've had really good feedback about it, it's made quite a few people I know cry and like... goals. haha.
