For this video, I took General Grievous' introductory scene from Revenge of the Sith, and spliced in clips from his Russian dub to give the illusion that he speaks in an alien accent.

Thank you! I was actually inspired to do this because in return of the Jedi, Nien Nunb speaks Kikuyu, and audiences in Kenya were happy hearing their language spoken in the film. I didn’t know about Hungarian and Quechua also being used, that’s fascinating!

@@xenomorphic7887 You're welcome! You might have never heard about hungarian, because it never appeard in any actual movie, only in the original Clone Wars cartoon (the one made by Tartakovsky), where it was spoken by Nelvaans. As for Quechua, I believe that Greedo's language was based on it.

@@xenomorphic7887 Yeah, I too am a big fan of this show, along with the rest of the old Expanded Universe. Shame it was retconned by the other Clone Wars show, as well as Disney later on. I mean don't get me wrong, I like both Clone Wars animations, I just prefer the OG one. I especially love it's take on Grievous, wonder how he would be like with russian dubbing ;P

@@memeaids445 Biblically, historically yes (it's also documented in the modern world) those with the Holy Spirit can speak in all languages if God needs them to. although unfortunately "the force" is a reference to satanic writings, and it's how they refer to Satan as their god. but you get the idea.

The dubbing is even a little better than the original. The actor plays more with his voice and conveys more emotion. For example, when Grievous threatens, he pulls words, but after Anakin's "joke" he speaks a little faster, as if spitting.

Russian Grievous sounds like a hardened General, like actually intimidating and alienish with the distortion and german Grievous sound like a slimy SS commander to some extent. Both are far better than the english version ngl.

I like to imagine that he's talking kalleesh it makes more sense that aliens, speak ALIENS even though it's just Slavic, but that's something that star wars lost between classic to prequel, idk why Jorge Lucas didn't want to show more alien languages in the cartoons and movies

I read somewhere that star wars has actually used real life languages as alien languages. Nien Nub in ROJ spoke Kikuyu(forgive me if I spell that wrong) which is a language based in Kenya. So 100% Russian could very well be the Kaleesh language. I like that idea too tbh

I could 100% see this in Star Wars, you got the captions identical to whenever characters speak an alien language too. I guess I’m just so used to his English voice that it sounds different but other than that this is really good!

funnily enough, this has technically already been done in Star Wars - in Return of the Jedi, the alien character that sat next to Lando in the Millenium Falcon during the Battle of Endor (Nein Nunb) spoke Kikuyu, which as I understand is one of the languages spoken in Kenya. This is simply because the character was voiced by Kipsang Rotich, a Kenyan student who was on set for work experience and the director was just coincidentally looking for someone to record voice lines Nein Nunb.

Moreover, when Kaleeshans were oppressed by Yam’riis, the Republic paid no attention to that, but when Kaleeshans led by Grievous struck Yam’riis back and the latter asked for help, the Republic took Yam’riis’ side and thus turned Grievous away from it. Just one more interesting coincidence…

Are you sure, that empire is inspired by Germany? Aside from the officer's attire, there is no reason to be sure that it's definitely Germany. It's looks very similar to Roman Empire or Soviet union. Galactic empire didn't commit genocide based on race, they hunted down Jedi, exactly like Soviets hunted down priests...
