The G4 meltdown represents EVERYTHING wrong with modern mainstream video game coverage. G4 seemed ashamed of its past. You want to draw your old audience back, because nostalgia sells when done right. When you demonize that same audience essentially, then play the victim… What other outcome could they have expected? Unless they’re purely inept. It’s impossible to feel sympathy when their downward trend is purely self inflicted. Side note - I would binge the hell out of OG Screwattack content. It’s a beautiful time capsule of that era. Better days, in all honesty. Wonderful to see continuing content, Craig!
@TheAustinDelgado
@TheAustinDelgado 2 жыл бұрын
I wouldn’t say “ashamed of its past,” but evolving with the times. The audience is not the same, it’s a mixture of old and new. Many vitriolic people harass the current iteration and call for the “old days,” with vitriol and irrationality. Personally if I kept being crapped on for irrelevant things I may not have kept my head as cool as Frosk. It’s quite easy to feel sympathy for those who are unfairly treated.
@AmityFeatures
@AmityFeatures 2 жыл бұрын
@@TheAustinDelgado Fair point, but I’d argue the fact they kept dwelling on it is what made people tune out so quick. They’re a business. The customer has zero obligation to continue watching. If a mistake was made on their end, they tend to respond with a condescending tone and ignore the core argument just going on the defensive. Were some people shit bags to that host? Definitely. But who cares? It’s just internet noise by the end of the day that really has zero ramifications. It’s the internet, it’s going to happen. Her response certainly didn’t do her any favors. She’s essentially punching downward and giving the impression that they’re a bigger deal than they actually are. It’s all useless controversy that could have been avoided by having some thicker skin and focus on making quality content that people can tune the troubles of the world out of.
@TheAustinDelgado
@TheAustinDelgado 2 жыл бұрын
@@AmityFeatures despite it being the internet, there are real people who make those comments. As a business owner, I have to have a lot of patience for clients. However, at a certain point , it isn’t “the customer is always right,” if they’re being irrational to an erratic or harmful degree. Taking a stand can be helpful and beneficial even from a business stand point; and when it’s personal it doesn’t make the person defending themselves “bigger than they are,” it makes them not as small as they vitriolic person describes them. It makes them equal

Dear Craig, Here's my thoughts if you bring back ScrewAttack or any other brand for the same purpose: 1. Hire whoever you want based on how good the person is, not who they are. We don't care. 2. No politics of any kind. Politics ruin gaming. If a person wants to complaint that the latest game is too sexualized, there's not enough inclusivity or that it has too many LGBT+ people, they can open their own channels or blogs. We don't care about this shit... at least most of us. 3. Wanna have "premium" paid memberships? Awesome, but make them worthwhile. Not just cringey emojis on chat. Added value makes people happy. 4. No matter who you hire, you'll get shit from people. Either that the person is "progressive or liberal", or that they're "alt-right and conservative". Fuck that shit. Ignore those morons. 5. Just focus on making it fun. Everything else will come in its due time.

Craig, once again you have hit the nail on the head! ScrewAttack was awesome, but it may not have the same response if it were to be resurrected and started over again. There is no reason to muddle the nostalgia of people who watched the content before if it is not the exact same as it was back then. Also, if viewpoints have changed or people are sensitive to certain material that made the brand what it was, bringing it back would ruin what it once was. You are a great businessman and I admire your ability to know when it's time to move on!

The thing is the pieces to make a second ScrewAttack of sorts with new personalities are definitely there, with people like Jirard, Scott the Woz, and Arlo around. But what's lacking is a place dedicated to being just about the games and the people who play them. No politics, no religion, none of that. Just a place gamers can go to talk about and play games. And I think the gaming community needs a sort of ScrewAttack 2 now more than ever. But that being said, and I mean absolutely no disrespect when I say this... ...It can't be you Craig. For a variety of reasons but chief among them being simply your lack of interest in gaming culture nowadays. That's certainly not a bad thing by any means but it does mean you wouldn't be in the right space to both live your life how you would want to AND basically be Stuttering Craig all over again. It would need someone who is passionate about gaming, is great at bringing people together, and can manage them without outright bossing them around, thus allowing to grow into their own roles, much like you did many years ago. But if such a thing DID happen and we did get a sort of spiritual successor to ScrewAttack, then I would hope one day, even if only as a brief guest, we would see you there. It'd be poetic in a sort of "pass the torch" kind of way. But ultimately while we all have seen the sheer toxicity of the gaming community nowadays, I do believe the positivity is also there and simply needs a place to gather and grow and I believe if the right person in the community were to try and do it, it could come back in its own way. It would never be like ScrewAttack was, but it wouldn't have to and depending on what they learn from both ScrewAttack's moments as well as what they do, it may turn out even better. Sorry for the newspaper but even now at 31 years old, gaming is still my passion and I want to see it overcome this, but I want to see it done right and not simply cling to ScrewAttack but grow to be its own cool thing again.

The gaming and anime communities have actually done a better job than most in gatekeeping the screeching harpies that want to inject identity politics and CRT in every facet of society. Thanks for answering my question, Craig. A documentary about ScrewAttack would be pretty great too. I'd love for that to happen someday. As for some reality where you could get Screwattack back? I agree that the best thing would be just to release all the old clips. It's a shame that all all those memories are laying on some hardrive gathering dust, or worse, gone forever. To me, ScrewAttack is like the perfect time capsule of early content creators. Doing things years, even decades before everyone else. And that is what made it so special. It certainly wouldn't be the same now if it was brought back.

As much as I would love to see the entirety of the Screw Attack library come out if you can buy it back, a Screw Attack 2 does not sound like a bad idea as something separate from the original library. I get why you do not want to do gaming content but maybe if SA2 did exist, you could do the business side of things behind the scenes. It just make sense to me to have you who have the knowledge on how things should work, working behind the scenes while letting someone else star the show. Regardless what you do, your fans will support your decisions.

The nice thing about retro consoles? They don't have monthly or yearly subscriptions, they don't require being left on all the time, and they have games that work when you pop them in and are complete experiences. I loved Screwattack, but its time has passed. I'd love to be able to see all of the old content released in order, though. That's a great idea. As for the G4 thing, I agree with what she said. However, from what I've gathered, people weren't saying some of the things that she went off about. People were calling her out for seemingly not knowing much about games or the gaming industry as a whole, and from some of the things she's quoted as saying, that seems to check out. She then turned it into a discussion about sexism/misogyny. If I'm wrong, I'm sure someone will correct me, but that's what I've heard.

I'd be perfectly fine with someone like an archive site. Just somewhere (aside from random folks that happened to capture the videos and uploaded on youtuber) to watch all the top tens and vault episodes - preferably in chronological order so we can watch how the site evolved over time. Of course newer content would be nice, but these days, what can you really do without causing some for of trouble or getting into trouble? Screwattack was always about being ahead of the crowd when it came to so many things. Ah well. Least we still have Craig giving us his wisdom, opinions, and now back to doing his own lists.

here's another idea , you could relaunch screwattack as it was when it first started , and instead of doing new content continuing where you left off you could just re-upload all of the original screw attack content in continuity to literally do the exact same screwattack over again o:

God. This is why I respect Craig so much. The man literally inspired me growing up with his content, and if he reacquired his brand, he would keep it the same. Screwattack was the greatest thing to happen to the gaming community (imo) and I'm glad Craig can respect the history of the brand he made and point out that things have changed.

how much would it cost to buy screw attack, because rooster teeth having it is just making all the content super hard to find because every time someone uploads it they just block it, so i would buy it and then make my own archive channel if i could afford it

I don't think anyone wanted G4TV back (aside from Sasuke broadcasts), they want TechTV back. They want that mid-aughts media feel, not the early tens spank bank. That era is pretty much gone though. An overwhelming noise drowning out a niche signal.

When i started watching g4 it was in the middle. The tech tv stuff just left the air screen savers ect. I loved cheat and xplay, watched some attack of the show and it was ok. After it died i felt everything came back on KZfaq, fans seem to have made their own versions of those shows and i was happy with that

Wow, I heard G4 was coming back but I hadn't even heard it was back to check it out. I think I will though. So the reason you stopped reviewing games was because you reviewed all the games you wanted to review? If that's so it stands to reason retro game channels would run out eventually but if that's what's going on I think you're the first I've heard of to do it. If so...congrats, mission accomplished, you beat the game lol. I'd love it if you continued the storytime series though, that was my favorite content on this channel really.

@@jamespuso1627 It's worse... At least Cops the show knew what the subject matter was and talked about it with respect and knowledge. G4 hired nobodies who didn't even know about gaming or even the old network.

@@ccateni28 Long comment but felt like giving impressions lol Just watched about 5 videos from them and specifically looked up the big meltdown by this Frosk character. I guess some thoughts on them specifically...saw 2 of the Sonic the Hedgehog videos from July, an XPlay one about 3D Sonic games from Adam Sessler and a top 3 Sonic games from a bunch of newcomers I don't recognize. I thought the newcomers were honestly a bit better than Adam with respect to this particular subject since it felt at least like the main guy reading the top 3 knew Sonic pretty well, that Frosk character admitted to not having played Sonic 3 and Knuckles but had valid enough critiques of Sonic Adventure 2. That third woman whose name I already forgot didn't look to add much though Sessler on the other hand with the are there any good 3D Sonic games segment seemed to quite intentionally skip Sonic Colors and disregarded that half of Sonic Generations was 3D which had merit and would have made the topic a bit less one sided to drive home his point that to him the answer is no. Also watched an older new XPlay about Breath of the Wild and Breath of the Wild 2, which I absolutely loved since he seemed to have the exact same criticisms of Breath of the Wild I had and I thought I was the only one who had them, I disagreed with him that the old Zelda formula was stale but I guess that's an opinion a lot of people had so...good review and good suggestions for 2 there IMO. Then I watched a more recent one with the XPlay of God of War 2018 which I'm currently playing with a friend of mine and the one on LGBT representation in games from last year. I got some spoilers on God of War and I don't know if I'm far enough in to say how much I agreed or not with it, and I was a little lost on the LGBT representation in games one since the only one the college student Sessler brought it to speak on mentioned as a favorite I played was Hades but I guess based on what I do know I thought what they had to say was valid at least and in particular I thought that the God of War one was probably something of a roundabout way of addressing how and why G4 themselves is changing the way they brand themselves. Obviously like Craig said in the video...it's kinda weird to just run from what they were. Of course a segment titles "Olivia's rack" would NEVER fly today and it does feel to a degree that they're ham fisting diversity now to try to fix that without really acknowledging much which I mean is awkward in some cases but...ya know I almost find this preferable to the old brand there. It's disingenuous but there was always a sort of sleazy dis-ingenuousness to G4 with that sort of thing. I mean, I feel like Frosk is certainly more knowledgeable about games than Olivia Munn was about games or tech but I'd have to watch more to be sure. I'm not knocking Morgan Webb's gaming cred but Munn was just felt like saying "hey nerdy high school guy whose never getting laid, here's a piece of eye candy the likes of which you're never gonna tap", which was an aspect of it I never quite cared for.
