Judas was one of the twelve disciples of Jesus. He is most known for betraying Jesus which led to Jesus’ death by crucifixion. Not only was Judas one of the 12 disciples, he was also the treasurer as well. Either he wanted money or he was disillusioned with what Jesus said and did, Judas went to the chief priests who wanted to kill Son of God and made a deal with them to betray Jesus for thirty pieces of silver. Unable to bear the weight of his actions, unable to come to terms with the man he has become; Judas takes his own life.
But what if Judas did not take his own life? How would things have changed? Please note that this is just my opinion on how things would have turned out. Please leave a comment if you have a different idea. While you are at it, don’t forget to like share and subscribe.

This was very good and an interesting take. I think that with the way it did happen, Judas is still a positive example in the sense of how not to be. More of a, do not let your guilt consume you and presume that God could not forgive you, lest you end up like Judas, situation. We are all sinners and deserve hell, but by grace we are saved. You have to believe and trust in that. Perhaps having Jesus reassure Judas that he forgives him would have been more powerful, but due to free will, Judas didn't trust enough that it was possible.

@@dylanliu5901 We all do insofar as we reject God constantly through our sins and thus do not deserve eternal companionship with God. Remember, Hell is essentially eternal separation from God-that is to say, God gives those who do not want to be with him want they want, eternal separation from him. By means of grace, we are given the chance to act in the manner necessary for companionship/building a genuine relationship with God, as well as the innumerable opportunities to seek forgiveness when we inevitably stumble.

@@dylanliu5901 we all deserve hell as we are sinners and God is holy and righteous. We don’t deserve to be with God. Thankfully, he loves us so much, that we are saved through the sacrifice of Jesus and our sins can be washed away. @thejake267
@thejake267 Жыл бұрын
@@dylanliu5901 you didn't offend me, and I appreciate the dialogue. Here's how I look at things. You have to first answer the question, do you believe that God exists? If not, then this dialogue will fall on deaf ears. If you do, then you have to ask yourself, when you die, what will happen? Logically, you will be in one of two places: the same place as God or not. I think it is a mistake to look at hell as a place of torture and torment for eternity. While it is that, it makes it hard to agree or rationalize that anyone could deserve that. But if you think of hell as a place without God, its a little easier to come to terms with. Then you would have to imagine what being in the same place as God would be like. Let's just go with the premise that Christianity is correct (again there's lots of discussion here, I'm just simplifying). How would you describe God? Loving, righteous, honest, holy, right, amazing, etc. Then being in His presence, you would be surrounded by all those things as well. To not be in that presence, would be the opposite of that. Hate, fear, pain, unholy, evil. So, if God exists and we have to be somewhere when we die, we can only be with God in the presence of everything that is good, or not with God, which would be in the presence of everything not good. Even the best person in the world is terrible in comparison to God, and God can not have something like that with Him. So we can't be with God unless we are washed clean. The only way that is accomplished is from Jesus. "Deserve" is sort of a loaded word. We don't deserve heaven, but through God's grace, we are able to obtain it. We are by default going to hell as we can not be with God in that impure state, so you could say everyone "deserves" hell, but its more appropriate to say "no one deserves to be with God", but not being with God would be the equivalent to being in hell.

I read some comments claiming there is a contradiction in the bible regarding Judas' death. Matthew 27 mentions Judas taking his own life whereas Acts (written by Luke) mentions him falling. So which is it? Well, both are correct. Let me explain, Luke and Matthew are telling different parts of the same event. When Judas couldn't live with what he did, he took his life by hanging. After some time the body became bloated as it was hanging in the sun. It could have been that the rope or the branch broke which led Judas to fall as explained by Luke in Acts. So Matthew explains how Judas lost his life and Acts explains what happened to his body afterwards.

I have heard different takes. I have heard that Judas did not commit suicide at all, but was murdered by someone hired by the Jewish Leaders because of his show of conscience. Another one that I have heard, the Roman's had him killed because of his deal with the Jewish Leaders, and they were angered by being put in such a position. The reason for the murder claims is how mutilated his body was when he was found hanging. Frankly, anything is possible in this case, because of what he did in life shortly before his death. Suicide is also very possible, because how could one live with the guilt of giving up Jesus Christ to die.

@@losttech5151 , that's the prevailing view point. Honestly, it really could have been any of these things that happened. I can't imagine that he was very popular after betraying Jesus. Plus I am sure that the Romans were pretty upset about being put in that position by the Sanhedrin.

Judas would have been the patron Saint of guilt and fear. He was at the foot of the greatest teacher of all time, but yet did not pay attention in class. In a way all of us can relate to Judas that we are afraid of our guilt and our sins and we are afraid that God won’t forgive us. But in reality god forgives us all of our sins by his son Jesus Christ who came to die for us. Judas betrayed Jesus but so did Saint Peter but Saint Peter remembered the teachings of his great teacher and his best friend Christ

Did Judas have to live to be forgiven? To be forgiven, the requirements are true repentance and asking for it. The only question is "was Judas there when the sacrament instituted and did he ask for forgiveness"? The sacrament of reconciliation have already been instituted. Does this lead to the possibility that Judas is in heaven? There are more questions about the mercy of God.

John 6: 68 Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life. 69 And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God. 70 Jesus answered them, Have not I chosen you twelve, and one of you is a devil? 71 He spake of Judas Iscariot the son of Simon: for he it was that should betray him, being one of the twelve.

Though accepting Judas back will probably not be easy for the other disciples. Judas would have dared the disciples to kill him because of his actions. Peter on the other hand would have intervened and becomes the first one to accept Judas back. Peter would then remind the others of the time when they abandoned Jesus when he got arrested. The other disciples then got convinced that they all should forgive Judas.

So often we look at the bad things Judas did that we forget he probably had potential to be a great man in Christ. He probably started out with the right heart, otherwise Jesus may not have chosen him to be one of the 12. And they both has shame pain and guilt. But i also believe that everything that happened was written down in the book of life before the foundation of the world. And unfortunately it had to happen this way even tho we have free will. We just dont know how it is written down. Like u said i wish he hadn't taken his life i believe he could have ended up maybe as one of the top Apostles. Knowing what he did and then seeing jesus christ Resurrected from the dead. It might have pushed him to the top where Peter was as far as proclaim the name of jesus christ. But unfortunately we will never know. Because now he is in hell for all eternity and every second of every day. He has to live with the fact that he betrayed the son of man with a kiss and for 30 pieces of silver. What a tragic end. @Diane Adkins The Scripture teaches us that Judas' descent into hell began with an insatiable love of the world, material things, and in particular, money. We see this in his being troubled over Mary using expensive perfume on Jesus and in his evil habit of pilfering money from Jesus and the apostles' money bag (John 12:1-6). John 6:70 Jesus answered them, “Did I Myself not choose you, the twelve? And yet one of you is a devil. John 6:71 Now He meant Judas the son of Simon Iscariot; for he, one of the twelve, was going to betray Him.

So here's an alternate scenario in which Judas never died. Judas appears before the other disciples not to rejoin them but he let them kill him with his last request that they hope that they can find a replacement for him. The other apostles attempts to attack Judas however peter intervenes and dares the others to attack him because of his own denial. Peter comforts and convinces Judas to rejoin them and then convinces the other ten apostles to forgive Judas. Judas then begins his own ministry, possibly recruits his own disciples and prepares himself for the possibility that he may die by getting betrayed by one of his own disciples

Very interesting take on "What if . . ." Well done. I have always thought that Judas was unfairly vilified. It was God's plan and intention that the Son of Man would suffer and die for our sins and be resurrected. With that in mind, one could argue that Judas was actually doing God's will and that the betrayal was his part in the Redemption plan. Clearly, Judas repented of his actions. I like to think that he accepted salvation before he completed suicide and now is with Yeshua.

Is it possible Judas actually "spilled his guts" in his Aramaic confession and it was translated as a 'literal suicide' in the Greek translation? Perhaps we should take a closer look at some Aramaic Idioms and ask the Holy Spirit to illuminate the truth to the Glory of God. 💝

I'd been thinking for years that Judas didn't hang himself that someone who loved Jesus killed him for betraying Jesus causing his death and then convinced everyone he took his own life, but if he did take his own life then he repented realizing his sin against Christ the Messiah Judas thought it would force Jesus to rise up to be king of their time not realizing He is eternally King in heaven

My teacher once said "If Judas had not committed suicide, he would have replaced Paul. The reason was because Judas was SO smart he had been hiding the dirty secret of him money stealing for 3 years, that meant Judas was very clever so as Paul!" I don't know about the people who read the comment and what my teacher said, but please don't send any hate as this is just an unharmful theory.

How To Be Simply Saved. 1. The bad News. We are sinners. (Romans 3:23.) We deserve to be punished in hell for our sins. 2. The Good News. Jesus Christ who is God’s Son died on the cross for all of your sins. He was buried & rose again to give you eternal life in heaven as a free gift. (1 Corinthians 15:3-4. Romans 6:23.) 3. How am I saved? Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved. (Acts 16:31.) 4. Once saved, always saved. Jesus said in John 6:47. Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life. Do you believe that you are saved by grace and promised heaven because Jesus died for you? Yes_ No_.

Great re-imagining. However, let's take into account that Judas hatched the plan of betrayal when the devil possessed him. Sin gives a false joy and comfort and then when the severity of it hits you and leaves you feeling guilty and filthy (e.g. Adam and Eve hiding from God) that's when you realize oh oh what have I done. By then the enemy who caused you to do those things has left you alone and is laughing at you. And in the book of Acts I think that should be Chapter 1, the 11 remaining disciples didn't seem to be any kind of sad about his passing.

If he was smart, he'd known that Jesus can bring himself back and seeing the miracles where he got up dead people or healed blind people. I guess even as he was like on the sidelines, he was not really part of Jesus inner circle and had not seen the more really powerful miracles. Even if Jesus tried to show him how. It would not have worked as it was beyond his understanding.

Judas will allways be Jesuses bigest pain. He tried so hard to save him. But Judas was not able to change. He did repent for selling an inocent man and giving him to the autorities, but he did not repent for betraying his Lord and Saviour. Even, acording to Maria Valtorta, Mary, the mother if Jesus was determined that the apostoles go look for him and bring him back. She still wanted him to repent his actions, to e forgiven and saved. But he already comited suicide.

Judas took his life by design. The whole Bible talks about prophecy, it talks about what is called programmation. The same way Adam was programmed to feel lonely and in need of another, the woman, Eve that is, just like Eve was programmed to feel desire for the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, just like it was programmed for Cain to be Born, for Abel to be born, for the murder to happen and for Moses to go up to the bush, for David to become king over Israel, for the Messiah to be born, do and be who he was destined to be, to come in a particular time in a particular place. Heck, the whole creation speaks daily of the character of life being a total programmation from beginning to end, there is no randomness in a world made out of atoms with laws of physics. Every desire, thought and feeling was carefully crafted too, you can’t make this up, we know for damn sure what phase of the moon it’s gonna be in 10 years time on a particular day, minute, hour and second, we are biological programs , we know where you’re gonna be in less than a 100 years at best, and the answer is not here anymore. The insanity of God goes beyond what one can put into one sentence. God made each and every person according to his own desire, and you are not God. The person you are entirely is the will of another, for you to love one thing, hate another, not particularly like something, it’s just programmation, none of it is your choosing, you can’t be whoever you want to be. Why are you a male and not a female ? Or the other way around ? What defined that choice, for you to be born on a particular day instead of another, to look like what you look like, none of your choosing, even down to the things you hear, smell, taste, eat or think, it was all carefully designed, every second of it. To get back to Judas, he was programmed to be who he was, to be born the man who would sell Jesus, feel remorse and then take his own life. God wrote that story, no one else. At anyone point Judas had no choice whatsoever, the whole thing is God, even Jesus speaks of the character of his death having to be a thing. God is one, and since God is one it simply means God is the devil, and the devil is God. Am I speaking heresy ? Not the least when having studied Job through and through, how the supposed devil or serpent is the one destroying Jobs life but when everything is done it is God showing up to Job telling him this is the way things are supposed to be, so even if there’s a devil, God approves of it indeed, and being the master above all, makes himself the one responsible for it in consequence. Judas never did anything wrong, much like no human being ever is responsible for anything in the end, it’s only God doing everything through us, in us and to us. If there is one enemy in this whole story, in this whole living hell, it is God alone, no one else. God designed every death, every disease and every hurt, every torment and every pain. None of this I’m saying comes from me, it is knowledge that was given to me, even reading the Bible was none of my wanting but something put within me to investigate. People still wonder about the tree of the knowledge of good and evil to this day, not knowing there is no other thing which talks about the things which are good, and those that are evil, aka the Bible itself, and God made you read it, and if you were not lead to read, you heard about the story and it’s an enough thing to be accounted for death itself, since eating of the tree was the first sin.

It's too late for Judas. He should imitate Peter who after denying Jesus three times repented and asked for forgiveness and Jesus reinstated him and made him as the leader of the first community of the disciples but Judas had a different fate when he regretted what he had done, he does not believe that Jesus will forgive him that is why he took his own life by hanging himself.

If Judas ran to Jesus' cross and begged for forgiveness, Jesus would've forgave him but alas, he didn't. That's the difference between Peter and Judas, Peter denied Jesus but repented and he was forgiven. Judas was a proud arrogant person, fornicator and lustful, the love for money and power and all the deadly sins made him who he is, so many times Jesus tried to save him from his so called friends in the temple by warning him not to interact with them, so many times Jesus prayed for him, fasted and mortified himself for him, tried to protect him from other disciples who were always in doubts about him, a lot of things Jesus did to prevent Judas from falling into the biggest sin a man ever committed, but he was stubborn and ungrateful, he betrayed his Master and Friend for such a cheap amount of money, when found out his horrible crime, he hung himself.

Judas Iscariot may of betrayed Jesus because he wanted to put Jesus in a situation that He would deliver the Kingdom of God by power,as prophesied by Jesus in Mk. Gospel ch.9 v 1. "Some of you standing here will see the Kingdom of God come in power", and when Jesus let himself be arrested and after being questioned be crucified. That the Kingdom of God in by power to defeat the sin of mankind upon himself and died and concord dead by rising to life again by his resurrection from the dead on the third day and ascended into heaven to be with God his Father. From where Jesus will come again to reign and there will be peace for evermore. However, Judas did not understand this is how the Kingdom of God would come in power and wanted to see God's Reign come in power on earth as did the Jews of Jesus' day. How about this for a theory of why Judas Iscariot betrayed Jesus,..

If Judas had waited three days he would’ve been like all the Pharisees who killed Jesus , expected revenge, but were told the Gospel by Peter and got saved! The story here is that if Judas had just waited three days he could’ve been forgiven and saved just like Peter who denied the Lord. God bless, keep reading scripture in context

The priests were protected by the Romans. Since the Romans wanted order, they wouldn’t allow the Priests to be killed, besides the priests were loyal to the Romans. Judas had no protection from the priests nor from the Romans. So he was an easy target. Not all followers of Jesus were like Jesus. Just look at how some wanted to make him a political king and how Peter cut a guard's ear off. Peter's betrayal of Jesus wasn't public, I mean the followers of Jesus weren't there when he betrayed Jesus. So he could have kept it a secret until later, I don't know. Judas betrayal however was public, the disciples knew and the story would have spread like wildfire. He would've been a target to someone.

@@windhoeker but that antithetical to the gospel. The whole point is that after Jesus was resurrected and they knew they’d just killed the God they claimed to believe in and were afraid of Gods wrath and revenge they instead got forgiveness and grace! That’s the gospel. “Forgive them Father, for they know not what they do”,, He said as He hung from a cross they’d nailed Him to and they were spitting on Him. If you know Jesus then you e been given a new heart that doesn’t want to kill in revenge, but forgive in love.
