With which kind of devil fruit should Luffy do the next run? I am thinking about a rather weak fruit, so he has some kind of challenges along the way!

Got two key issues. 1. I think Luffy would have had an even harder time vs Katakuri since he would have had less options to increase his speed and his haki would not be any better at this point than it was in the original timeline. 2. There is just no way Luffy would be able to face Big Mum entering whole cake since getting the dragon fruit would not have increased his haki proficiency and Luffy would have to have achieved strength comparable to Kaido leaving the time skip, which he once again wouldn't' have achieved since his haki at this stage would still be limited to the basic forms.

I would like to see Luffy with the Mochi-Mochi no mi, it would be interesting.

Honestly, since you bring it up at the end... what if Kaido had eaten the Gomu Gomu No Mi? Like, I'm trying to imagine how wacky a Drunk Kaido would be with just the base Gum Gum Fruit. And while I doubt he'd awaken it, I can actually imagine Kaido somewhat pulling the Gears here in some way.

When you talk about the regeneration factor of zoans you are forgetting that the Nika Nika is actually a zoan as well.

how about the pawpaw fruit? If Luffy had that fruit he and his crew would be literally flying around the world randomly. Luffy loves the easy travel the pawpaw fruit gives, but to Nami’s horror Luffy doesn’t normally care where they go and with his sense of direction you might as well put the location they arrive at an a random number generator.

You should make a what if Luffy didn't ate a Devil Fruit. Based on his grandpa, i think without a Devil Fruit, Luffy would've trained even harder. Kaido would not eat that guardian wolf fruit. It is a mythical zoan fruit and mythical zoan fruits are known to have a will and very strong one too. It won't let kaido eat him. But that fruit is not as suitable for Luffy as it is for Kaido, besides that Luffy would not reach the levels he is today or it would cost him much more to progress and improve his haki than in the original story by having less space to improvise with his imagination
