It's always a little odd seeing LttP be called Zelda 3. Like, it's not wrong... But at the same time it doesn't feel right either XD

I think it's generally acceptable if only because people tend to say Zelda 1 for clarity and Zelda 2 because it's actually called that. Any further than LttP though and it starts feeling really weird.

I played only once at a game called castlevania (and i got trapped because i turned back at the gate of the castle before it closed, trapping me outside of the castle and my cousin laught at me and never wanted me to play again)... that video look realy much like that game... i dont see any thing that remind me any close to any Legend of Zelda (and im a huge fan of the 2d LoZ)... (maby some parts have similar layout as some dungeons of The adventure of Link)... maby i miss something here... but LoZ3 is a 2d top view game for snes... i was expecting something like thoses Super mario/Metroid/LoZ randomizer where you find things of one game in the other mixed up and warp from a game to the other using some special doors... now i just saw a playthrough of a single game that i never seen more than the first dungeon... im confused...

I played Zelda 1 and Zelda 2 as a kid, so when this came out, we called it Zelda 3. That's still how I think of it.

The coolest thing about this preset could be further implementations of it. Magic Mirror + Adventurer or Lycanthrope would be awesome to see

This is super cool, and considering how SotN took inspiration from LttP, I could easily see an alternate timeline where a magic mirror was implemented into SotN or HoD like this. Though I personally find it tough to think about complexity in presets where the castle structure is rearranged to add extra requirements to certain checks.

@@Gorlokk666 could be possible. Zelda games could be considered metroidvanias on the merit of being about exploration and finding new items to progress and explore new areas but the interview I am citing mentioned AlttP specifically he could have also been inspired by multiple games

I've pretty much always considered Zelda and Metroid to be pretty much the same genre just with (usually) different visual perspectives. Relatively open but gated areas with gear that unlocks progression, combat options and maneuvering. Not that Castlevania doesn't do that also of course (at least Sotn onward) but it's far more directly connected between Zelda and Metroid. Metroidvania as a name works in general but it's coined by people talking about the games not the people that made them.

Well, I do see the first one be called Zelda 1, but, yeah from LttP onwards, seeing Zelda games be called by numbers feels weird. Like, it's not wrong to call LttP Zelda 3, but at the same time it doesn't feel proper either.

It would be weird to not count the Oracle games as two entries since they are of course two games. It's honestly pretty ridiculous how often people just assume it's a Pokemon situation with those two. The real complications are if we include some of the spin-off stuff or remakes or the CDI trio. I tend to go with a certain amount of ambiguity, I'd certainly say that Cadence of Hyrule earns it's spot, same for the Hyrule Warriors games despite not being the normal gameplay style but something like Smash Bros certainly wouldn't. Do we include remakes? Do we include all of them if so, since Ocarina 3DS, Majora 3DS and Link's Awakening Switch are all built from the ground up but Wind Waker HD and Twilight Princess HD are just remasters (though admittedly high end remasters). Ultimately it doesn't really matter, I just like noodling on stuff like this.

So technically you can skip any boss in second castle that has an item check in the next room without having to fight that boss and vice versa.
