If the Earth had an edge, I hope it would look like this. The edge of a flat Earth. I know, I know, we've talked about it before. But there's something mesmerizing about it. A flat Earth solar eclipse. Diagonally growing trees. The great wall of ice, guarded by NASA, of course. The flat-Earthers sure have a great imagination. But what if they were right? How would the Earth hold up in space? Would it revolve around the Sun, or would the Sun rotate around it? And why would you never walk to the Earth's edge?

True, and even before. Eratosthenes is an example. Even Christians like Beda Venerabilis wrote against flat earth beliefs. The idea of Earth centrality in the system and the one of earth roundness are different.

One simple example, stand at the first floor of a building when the sun is going down at the horizon and disappears. Once it disappeared, take the elevator and go to the 10th floor, guess what ? You will still be able to see the sun for a few more seconds before it disappear again. Which means the sun is hiden behind the horizon = sphere This would not happen on a flat earth.

Here's another simple challenge to flat-earthers. A pendulum's swing plane rotates around fastest at the earth's poles, and not at all at the equator. The formula is 15 degrees per hour times the sin of the latitude. How on the world can you explain this on a flat earth disk?

This video really provides excellents argumentations on why a flat Earth is impossible. Just a little correction: Earth is known to be spherical much long time before Copernicus. Aristotle already said that the Earth was round, and, in the 3rd century BC, the lenght of the circumference of the Earth was calculated by Eratosthenes. 🙂 Anyway, it's a really nice video. Yet it failed at science pretty badly. Solar winds aren't strong enough to remove the Earth's atmosphere quickly. The solar wind would be less effective on pancake planet than a spheroid one.

That's part of the magic trick. There's no Solar system. Earth is the dry land we live on surrounded by large bodies of water. The lights in the sky all rotate above us continually. Those lights in the sky are not the same as the plane we live on.

According to pancake-earthers, earth is accelerating upwards, not downwards. Moreover, there is no gravity in that model, but if there was, it would be stronger at the center (north pole) than at the edge (south pole), unless the mass of the earth was concentrated at its edge.
