Wrong, Jupiter would suck earth into it's orbit and probably all other planets as well. Jupiter is a natural barrier for earth catching most of the debris coming from outside the solar system.

@@lmeza1983 Jupiter would not suck the earth into it's orbit. It depends on how far the earth is to jupiter. Say if the earth and jupiter are far away at each other jupiter wouldnt attract earth into orbiting it. And also jupiter's mass is pretty big so its still a low chance of jupiter catching earth.

I've read a few of these peices on "what if the sun disappeared?" And they copy each other's main points. My question would be if the earth started traveling in a straight line because the Sun's gravity was gone wouldn't that change in trajectory itself stop the Earth from rotating or throw all the oceans and continents into collision with each other as the Earth's momentum changed direction? Nobody ever talks about that in these write ups or videos. I can't see how the Earth would just go smoothly and gently changing directions and still be rotating on its axis and the moon would still follow suit and keep orbiting around the Earth. It seems it would be a pretty instantaneous cataclysm within 10 minutes.

I want to point out a few things you forgot in your Video one the earth wouldn't cool as bad as you say for several reasons one our atmosphere would hold in the heat for quite a while and the Volcanic activity would add greenhouse gases to help keep the temp up as well as the greenhouse gases produced by humans which can be amped up if needed

Jupiter will become the new Sun if the current Sun disappeared due to how the birkeland currents from galaxy power stars. Stars are not entirely thermonuclear. Jupiter will turn into a red dwarf star though and not main sequence star.

If the sun were spontaneously (somehow) removed from existence, how long would Earth remain in its elliptical orbit before flying off in a straight line..?? The answer to this must be exactly equal the same amount of time as it was for Light: 8 minutes and 20 seconds otherwise General Relativity would fall apart. But I'm unable to understand... why is this necessary even that the speed of gravity must be equal to the speed of light..?? Gravity is just an effect of space time. Please help me to figure out this Question.

nothing can move faster then the speed of light. So the suns gravity would dissapear but its remaning gravity would keep the earth into orbit for 8 more minutes

I was under the impression that stars (other than our sun or other galaxy's star similar to the sun) were... everywhere in space . Just their size and if they had planets orbiting it, made a different. In our galaxy, outside our galaxy. just everywhere. But nope! only 1 single star. The sun. all other stars are outside ours. Im fascinated by just how much I've learned from What IF even if its this 4 year old video. Man I love continuing to learn even as an adult!

Even worse, the average daily mean temp at the South Pole for the month of June (their coldest month, since it’s in the middle of winter for the Southern Hemisphere) is about -75°F and the record low is -117°F which is still much warmer than -400°F, which is what the video predicted would be the earth’s approximate temperature if the sun disappeared. The entire world would be covered in snow and ice and you wouldn’t be able to tell where any of the continents/countries were or wether your standing over land or ocean, I guess you could say it would be like the entire earth is Antarctica on steroids.
