We take for granted that the sun will come up tomorrow, but what if the sun went down and stayed down. How long would humanity survive without the sun heating up our Earth? In today's video we are looking at the dim future of Earth without the sun shining down and heating up our planet. How much sun do you think we have left? Can the human race survive this horror story scenario.

There's a series on Netflix called Into The Night. It's not about the sun going out, but it's about energy from the sun killing everyone where it shines. It's not even safe underground, so survivors on an airplane have to keep flying west away from the sunrise, only stopping briefly for fuel and supplies until they can figure out what to do next to survive. Amazing series.

So basically, I need to build a full on fallout shelter at least a mile underground, with a bunch of specialized equipment both to build and maintain it that I don't have, and with the right equipment and knowledge to maintain a steady supply of food, water, electricity, and some sort of artificial sunlight, plus a way to cycle oxygen so I don't suffocate. Easy peasy. I'll start tomorrow.

Honestly, I think I would just go ahead and die. After watching The Gray, survival in that kind of climate would be beyond dismal, it would be wretched. Many of my loved ones would likely be dead, possibly my significant other, my mother, or my sister. I don't think I could take it. I would likely just walk out into the dark cold and allow it to take me. Living wouldn't be worth much to me if I couldn't share it with my loved ones, and considering I've had a long history of clinical depression, I don't think surviving is worth suffering. In fact, I'm relatively certain of it. But that's just me, not to throw a massive wet blanket into the ring. It just seems accurate.

I got a crazy question. When the sun goes out and the planet starts getting cold, if we built thousands of giant furnaces the size of a small building all over the world could we heat the planet back up? Eventually we'd run out of coal or other fuels but I wonder if it's possible?
@exoltik3199
@exoltik3199 2 жыл бұрын
I'm sure it's possible to introduce enough greenhouse gases into the atmosphere to retain enough heat, but just the concept of it makes me think it could get out of control and retain too much heat, creating the opposite problem. And there's still the issue of no UV light from the sun. Though maybe light systems on earth could be replaced to be UV lamps instead. I'm not an expert though and I'm sure someone qualified can come up with a better theory or validate it. And the worst thing: I think the main thing we would be able to grow and consume (at least for the time being in the state of perpetual darkness and cold) is cave-dwelling mushrooms and as someone who hates mushrooms, this scares me 🤣

By it's nature, the sun can't just go out. I do remember a short story I read as a sixth grader back about 1967, where a large planet careens through the inner system and drags the earth with it. The story starts with a family of four, living inside an igloo sized shelter composed of overlapping carpets. The story is told by the son, about twelve or so. At that stage, the atmosphere has already settled out into stratified layers of "snow". The igloo has a constantly tended fire, and an airlock system based on yet more carpets with pails of nitrogen and oxygen defrosting in stages within. The son is beginning to take over some of the duties of scavenging the food available in nearby buildings (big city) but the range available to their outside suits (whatever air you leave the igloo with) is beginning to bite. The story ends with IR detection and rescue by a much larger group that has managed to keep a nuclear powerplant going. Looking back into the past, it was a good story with considerable thought put into it.

We should really give the guys making stuff like more credit cuz theoretically if the sun switches off forever we really need their technology to bring vegetables into live. MIT has a group called OpenAg their team and people contributing to it are awesome, I already thought they were dope but this video made me realise we need them a lot more in emergency situations. To everyone saying they want a movie or TV series about this, you need to watch a Netflix series called Into The Night. It's not exactly the same as this, but the plot is about energy from the sunlight suddenly killing everyone wherever it shines, and it's not even safe underground. It's not the heat, but it's energy from the sun messing with molecules in organic matter with fatal results. So survivors on an airplane have to keep flying west away from the sunlight, only briefly stopping for fuel and supplies until they can figure out what to do next to survive, as obviously you can't keep flying around forever. It's an AMAZING show and I highly recommend it.

Its condensation of air humidity. With falling temperatures air looses capability to carry humidity. The initially gaseous water in the air condenses to tiny water droplets (= builds visible clouds / fog) and then these water droplets freeze and fall to the ground as ice crystals. Its like cold-drying the atmosphere. Then, with temperatures dropping even further, even gases like oxygen , nitrogen etc. could also condense, freeze, and fall to the ground as snow. In the end the whole atmosphere lies on the ground as snow, ice or pools of liquid gases. No more air.
