LOVE Isaiah 117 Home! We have two fully built homes in southern Indiana, and one in the works. I believe. I am a foster parent, and work for a licensing agency. I have seen first hand the impact that this home has with kids and foster families and DCS alike. 🥰

Yes!!!!!!!!! My FAVORITE foster care non-profit. I got involved in my local Isaiah House when it started expansion efforts in 2021 and we opened this June! When I walked in to my latest volunteer shift, the eldest girl was excited to show off her new outfit "Look miss! My shoes are clean!"

even going immediately into kinship care which my brother and i did can have long lasting trauma on us though they tried to make it a normal day for us I do believe my dad and stepmom knew when they went to that emergency court hearing that morning what was going to happen. We went to school like normal and the only thing we found strange was that we were informed least i was around lunch that we would be car riders that day and our grandmother was picking us up. It was a friday and for about a year before we went to live with them our grandparents got us every weekend so that wasnt that weird but she always came and got us after school from our house. we found out when she got us to her house that we weren't going back. I was transffered to a different school immediately but my brother being in special ed and the difficulty of changing schools and moving his iep to another state they decided to keep him at his school until the end the school year which wasnt far off this was the end of march i remember it well because this all occurred a week before my 10th birthday which is on march 31st. i went back to my school on Monday and tuesday while my grandmother got paperwork together its not easy to move a kid between states finds out or least wasnt in the mid 90s and took a few days. I was glad to tell my friends bye

it was even more than that i moved states and with different standards for my grade in that state found myself behind. also it was a bit of a culture shock. I suddenly found myself going from a school of mostly white and native american children to find myself in a class where i was the only one of either race. I also had my first black teacher and male teacher and suddenly was changing classes something i never done before. All these things may seem minor but think of a 10 year old girl whose life just been changed and it just changes more.@@HappyHoppe

So does DHS run the house after they build it? I don’t know if you mentioned this and I missed it.

Nope, Isaiah 117 is a nonprofit that partners with Department of Child Service. So volunteers are trained by Isaiah 117 and background checked & fingerprinted by DHS are the ones who help provide childcare. Each home has 2-3 directors that I think may be a paid position through Isaiah 117, but otherwise run by trained volunteers.

So the house is empty (as in not a permanent occupant) but when kids gets removed the police or case worker take them to the house instead of the office? Who looks after the kids at the house until they get a placement?

Yes, the house is only used when kids are removed and are waiting to be placed with a foster family. Trained volunteers who have had state background and fingerprint checks are who provides childcare while the DCS caseworker also remains at the house. This allows the caseworker to do their job while a volunteer cares for the child(ren).
