I was taught to keep my "tucked" hand behind the opposite elbow, rather than tucked in the bend. It let's you drop that lower hand out if needed. It's not too hard for your opponent to press in on your upper hand (or forearm) and actually trap both of your arms otherwise. True?
@seththompson7057
@seththompson7057 4 жыл бұрын
@@footLogic if he pushes in and tries to wrap me up in a bear hug why would I not just take the free underhook and control position? Behind or in the crook is going to be the same movement to free your hand, which actually gives a really solid amount of control because you have that hand going under an arm and the "pinned" arm is going to end up in shoulder or bicep control, effectively giving you the T position, where you can push them outside or take them to the ground (whatever is the viable option).

R cuz !!!!! not to discredit any of the athletes you mentioned such as kick boxers or MMA fighters but they do not practice violence they practice sportsmanship violence does not involve consent! On some level everyone you mention consented to get into the altercation with their opponent however police military personnel bouncers and security officers are constantly faced with real violence someone who is trying to end their time on this earth or simply do something horrible to someone else and they are willing to Do great harm to you as well in order to do so !!!! this is real violence not getting in a ring in consenting to a set of rules however rough , even if the rule set allows for the possibility of death, there is still a referee !!! That’s three to stop that from happing it exists only as an outside possibility of rare circumstance happening that is unless we are talking about Roman gladiatorial combat !!! So there fore the line between the street and the sport world exists!!! No it is very true that the techniques don’t change , As in what works in the cage will be effective in the street this is a fact however when to use it as THE CONCEPTS DO !!and real violence Always!!! comes with paperwork if you don’t believe me please please try real violence anywhere other than a ring or a gym you’ll be met with some new jewelry by some friends in blue with badges. I hope I have clarified any misunderstanding if not feel free to reply by the way I would like to inquire as to what expertise you have in this field I hope over 15 years experience in the private security executive protection field I spent two years in the Air Force as a security forces officer and I literally train now professionally at a Gracie jujitsu school as I am lucky enough to be financially independent at the moment so if you believe your credentials to be greater than mine or if you believe you have wisdom that I do not have please enlighten me R Cruz

Back in 1972. I was in a situation where a guy out of the blue swung a 16 once glass bottle of Coke at my head. I ducked it and round house kicked this guy in the face. He went down hard. I walked away. Later that night the state police showed up and my door and arrested me. I was taken to jail and charged with attempted murder for the so called beating of this guy. It was one kick! I was facing 5 years in prison. After a long 8 months waiting for trial, just as we were ready to go into court. They offered me a deal. Pay for damages and it would be dropped. They wanted $1500. Not much right? Yes it was. I only made $1.10 an hour back then. But I agreed to this horrible settlement anyway. Then I loaded up my wife and kid and moved out of state rather than pay this shit head. 7 years later I had an attorney check to see if that judgement against me had expired. It had and was not renewed. So I was able to come back. The moral of this long story is this. If you ever mix it up with somebody. Always, always call the police right after and file a report. Because the first one to file gets the presumption of innocence. And the other person’s the bad guy.

Jay's looking pretty fit. Right on. when I was taught your preferred stance (the thinker type/beard twirler) he called it the fence Now that I'm 38th degree master, if I'm in close quarters and feel threatened I apply my iron shirt breathing, squint my eyes (harder to poke) and retract my testicles into my abdomen. Yes, it is difficult to talk to people while maintaining this impenetrable defence, and I have made myself pass out once or twice, but the principle is sound. OSS.

But a pencak instructor once told me to never put my hand in my elbow. The guy only has to push on your forearm to lock both your arms with 1 hand. Instead I put my hand below my elbow, this way I can defend against someone grabbing my forearm.

Hey man, nice video! I think that What you mention here is really important in order to have success in a self defense scenario. At some point of the video you mention that you must try to keep your hands on the inside so then you can do whatever you're planning and I know there are a lot of thecniques that you could use in that moment but it would be good if you make a video or two talking about what to do in order to end up that "danger" situation.

Hahahaha. I'm also a smaller dude, and not very intimidating (until I get mad), which always made security work my favorite. It made for more physical confrontations, and was a lot of fun. Had a lot of people either try to fight or run, and it kept it exciting all the time. Just thought of that when you mentioned being smaller and bouncing.

Tbh this is useful to anyone who’s getting in a situation that might be confrontational. I’m a manager at a 24 hour fast food place and I can’t even count how many times in the only 3 years I’ve been there that I’ve been face to face with someone who was confrontational. Always stood my ground though because I knew I could defend myself. Luckily only one guy got violent but he went to the parking lot and started throwing rocks through our windows so I called the cops because if I don’t have to fight I’m not gonna. The cops came within minutes and tackled him in an alley 2 streets down. They said he got tangled in his shirt when they confronted him and he was high on meth. All because I kicked him out since the lobby closed at 11.

Hand over my solar plexus almost as a habit after years of working in crowds. Also, if you have enough size advantage, a hand between the shoulder blades might work better than at the elbow; it does for me anyway. It allows for a lower likelihood of escalation when in a loud environment and verbal communication is hindered.

That "arms crossed" stance reminds me of Fist of Fury (The Chinese Connection). The scene I'm sure most people know I'm referencing is when Bruce Lee walks into the dojo and is approached. He adopts that stance to look casual, but one of his hands is already balled up into a fist.

love this video great tips for the professional and regular guy alike.You can find your self in court and loose a bar and your time in the security industry, real quick if you get to beating on people.I went to a bar with a pair of pliers on my belt, bouncer came up and said "is that a knife on your belt?I said "it is a pair of pliers I would be happy to take them out the car" so the guy has his hand on my shoulder. were are leaving to the car not a sign of trouble and four big goons worked there were racing up to beat my ass. the guy said "no trouble no trouble" so they turned around and walked off. i got to my car and said "you are a real life saver" he said "what do you mean"? I said "if your guys had beat me up over a pair of pliers and not killed me, a year from now, I would have set up under that bridge right there and shot a bouncer, any of them fine with me with a long range high powered rifle.Every time you come to work see me under that bridge in your mind" I would not shoot a guy over that rather sue and get some thing.I just wanted him to know looking the other way on that heavy handed give a beating co worker, can cost us both dearly. I love our courts and our cops and the system, Happy to go talk to the judge, call the cops and we can settle it with due process. The farther we get from that the more we suffer.

Great video thank you. I think his topic critical for anyone. Keeping hands up closer to head at all times when even the smallest potential threat of violence exists. Countless people dying from one punch falling back and hitting their head on the pavement. Putting some meat between their strike and your computer key component to surviving violence. First rule of self defense is don’t get knocked the f*** out.

I guess depending on the person and their amount of training is what will determine the move/reactions of the opposing person in a possible confrontation. I mean, really if you think about it weather your inside or outside of the grapple can make you more of a target if you don't know how to reverse it. I've seen guys who didn't even know how to reverse an arm grab the way Jay did and still managed to come out on top, but having the presence of mind in ANY confrontation and the wherewithal to mentally manipulate the situation and/or people involved is key IMO.

I worked as door security for years, I am 5 foot 11 and at the time, maybe 160 pounds. I was much better at defusing than the big boys for a lot of reasons and yeah, keeping your hands up but casual is an art. Another positioning trick I used was to step in like I was trying to talk over the music, this gave me a chance to get my front foot between theirs 2 feet. Applied correctly gives you, the lower centre of gravity, a distinct leverage advantage. I will say that I liked being right up close on the bigger drunks, it is a hell of a lot easier to block a punch if you make contact with the arm above the elbow, it reduces the power hugely and I have never met a big guy who could resist bear hugging a wee fellow like yours truly. As long as your arms are free when he goes for it, you can do whatever you like to him.

I was never a bouncer, but I've used these techniques before and they are KILLER. I was really into Wing Chun at one point and used my knowledge (what little of it I had) with the trapping techniques to keep inside of the other persons "guard" (if you want to call it that). It's very difficult to get sucker punched when you're arms are on their biceps and you have a bit of trapping under your belt.

2:45 this position is actually a natural defense position. It doesn’t comes off as relaxed, but as defensive. Actually, any variation of cross arms comes off as defensive.

haha that is a really reasonable Approach in my eyes. Refreshing and quite an alternative to John Hacklemans "If anybody Comes within your two arms distance after warning, left hook them until they dont move no more!" I think I know what Kind of Situation he was refering to, but I know far more situations turning out like 2.39 than "John hackleman Situations";)
