The thing is that in Magic all of these cards have a cost but you're assuming that in Yugioh you could just play them for free. If that was the case in Magic too they would also be broken.

ytmndman yeah but admittedly a lot of these cards are simply broken because the cost is so minimal compared to the effect. Shoulda showed him some of the weird black draw power Griselbrand, Necropotence, and Ad Nauseam, pure value mana cards like Gaea’s cradle, lotus etc., and a few un- cards to really mess with him.
@GeneralNickles

There really isn't a good way to translate Mana cost into Yu-Gi-Oh, since we've never had anything like that. You could equate each Mana to something like 500 lifepoints or some shit, but that doesn't really cover it either, because life doesn't matter. You could also put an arbitrary limit on the number of effects that can be activated the turn you use these cards, but the trick would be figuring out what number is fair in comparison to the Mana cost. Emrakul costs 13 Mana. I don't know magic very well, but I know that's a shit ton of Mana. Something like "you cannot activate other effects or summon other monsters the turn you activate this effect." Would probably be the best comparison. And the mindslave effect would have to be spell speed 4 to make it worth attempting in the first place. Another "can't be special summoned, must be normal summoned by tibuting 3 monsters." Restriction would probably also be necessary. But even then emrakul would still be broke as shit in Yu-Gi-Oh. Making it so your opponent basically wastes there cards is just so hugely impactful in Yu-Gi-Oh.

Not to mention, they are already broken in MTG. There is a reason, why Timewalk or Ancestral Recall for example get no reprint and are banned or limited depending of the format. And the Phyrexian Mana cards, well we don't talk about those anymore, since the mechanic was the biggest clusterfuck in MTG history and simply OP for exactly THAT reason. They are "free", they can be played in all deck...

@Gavin Pautsch point of order, the circle of protection cards don't actually give you protection from anything. They prevent damage that would be dealt by a source of that color. You can still be targeted by sources of that color, so all kinds of strategies work around them, plus enchantment removal.

Long time MtG player here, *-Ponder* : MtG has mana costs. so while ponder _can_ be used multiple times per turn, it'll cost you tempo. which is basically what pot of duality's restrictive clauses are designed to do as well. also Ponder is banned in modern *-Thoughtseize* : discard is one of black's claims to fame in MtG. its their "catch-all" answer. everybody hates it, but it's part of the game for a good reason. combo decks. MtG combo decks are pretty insane. *-leyline of the void* : graveyard hate is EVERYWHERE in MtG. and it's POWERFUL. basically, if your gameplan 100% relies on the yard, you'll have a bad time... unless you can be extremely fast about it. this comes mainly from a different design philosophy between the games. yugioh graveyard decks tend to be grindy control decks. MtG graveyard decks tend to be extremely aggressive, often aiming to play a bunch of stuff from the yard for 0 mana, a huge deal in MtG. there are some control decks that use the graveyard, but they have back-up plans, and they're able to set-up their graveyard at instant speed (gifts ungiven) *-Glimpse of nature* : banned in modern. also mana costs help lessen the danger of such similar effects. (also yes it stacks) *-surgical extraction* : see leyline of the void. generally only used against graveyard strategies and combo decks, otherwise it's a -1 that generates no tempo. (most of the time) *-consecrated sphinx* : yes it includes the draw phase. card doesn't see play though outside of EDH (a fairly casual format that tends to move much slower than other formats), 6 mana cards need to be winning the game, not drawing cards. also, you're misreading the effect. if your opponent draws 2 cards (desires) you'd draw *4.* they draw 3? you draw *6.* *-Dark Confidant* : standby = upkeep, yes. that said, upkeep comes before the draw phase. yea its a pretty powerful card. *-Gitaxian probe* : banned in modern. side note - i like yugioh's (general) refusal to reveal players' hands. *-Glorious end* : i don't think a card like this'll ever be that great in magic. the game is just so much slower, and perhaps more importantly, there's so many more ways to interact with your opponent during their turn. imagine if every trap/quick-spell was a hand-trap. *-Bloodbraid elf* : fun fact, cascade triggers on cast. so even if the elf gets countered (negated summon) you'll still cascade. very very powerful card. mainly because of the tempo it generates. *-Snapcaster mage* : between the abundance of graveyard hate, and mana costs slowing the game down, this guy is pretty reasonable. (still one of the best blue cards in modern though) note, you can't use this with MtG's raigeki/dark hole equivalents on your opponent's turn (wrath of god/damnation) because they're sorceries. (normal spells as opposed to quick play). you can only play instant-speed cards on your opponent's turn, the card given flashback by snapcaster keeps it's original card speed. *-ancestral recall* : mega-super-banned everywhere but vintage where it's limited (TCG traditional format basically) *-demonic tutor* : banned in legacy, limited in vintage, legal in EDH... (EDH is a 100-card-singleton format. it'll take more than 1 search to break the game.) *-Future sight* : same as consecrated sphinx, too slow. 5 mana is alot for a card that isn't winning the game/saving your life. *-Spellskite* : you nailed it, dude's sick. especially in magic, non-targeted removal is extremely rare, basically it only takes the form of board wipes. but even better... your opponent tries to buff one of their creatures? i'll take that, thank you... *-dig through time* : banned in modern and legacy, limited in vintage. legal in EDH. you called it. *-phantasmal image* : clones are fun, we've got TONS of them (almost all of them blue... you're really striking me as a blue player) this guy is the most competitive clone as he is the cheapest to summon. *-rest in peace* : see leyline of the void *-yaegmoth's will* : banned in modern and legacy, limited in vintage. legal in EDH. cards like THIS are why we have leyline of the void, surgical extraction, & rest in peace *-supreme verdict* : 4 mana kill everything is one of white's things they just do. splash of blue makes it uncounterable. ya gotta remember the mana costs here. imagine yugioh had "black hole : destroy all monsters, spell speed 4, end your turn" that's basically what this and other board wipes in MtG do. they cost enough mana that your turns just over after casting it. *-BIG GURL EMRAKUL* : welcome to MtG, if we can think of some cool shit to put on a card, we will. we have zero self control. bear in mind here, this is another 'on cast trigger' like blood braid elf. so when they cast this, you can negate the summon, but the effect still happens. you have to negate the mindslaver effect seperately. (so named for the card, Mindslaver, with the same effect. that's right, Emmy is the second card that lets you mind-rape your opponent) how is this a thing? well it costs alotta mana, if you can pull this off, and your opponent didn't prepare for it after all the set-up, you deserve to lose. not saying this wasn't competitive, it DID get banned in standard (like hearthstone standard). but these days it doesn't really show up much. (also yes, you fully control their turn) *-Time walk* : "banned" correct

I feel like the biggest difference between Yugioh and Magic is the cost of a card. Yugioh, unlike most card games, doesn't have something like Mana or Energy, so you can just activate cards one after the other. A card like Snapcaster Mage takes enough mana, where you'll most likely use it in the mid to late game.
@KingJohn2007
@KingJohn2007 6 жыл бұрын
YuGiOh has also been looked at from a design stand point as the most broken card game in existence for this very reason. Not having a restriction of any kind or a resource besides life points or other cards is functionally broken from a design standpoint because you can just dump your hand and keep going. Magic is balanced because you have a restrictive resource in the form of lands which only allows you to summon as many card as you have resources.
@Flumpor
@Flumpor 6 жыл бұрын
>implying magic is balanced I do like Magic, but the last thing that game is is balanced. In yugioh the quick pace of the game makes up for how strong some decks are and only once excessive searching and shuffling become a thing does the game truly show its flaws. But Magic, I am sorry. Legacy is unaffordable and key cards can't ever be reprinted because of the reservelist. Vintage is even worse, have fun spending 900+ dollars in budget vintage Decks. Modern is in such a mess right now that the game hasn't seen real metashifts for years, it's still the same combos in different skins for budget players, or Lilliana/Snappy control Decks with prices of over 2K+ Range or Affinity, if you boast about lantern control being the most innovative Deck of your Format, please reconsider that maybe you need to change up something.And Standard has been ranging from 3 Deck Formats to 2 Deck Formats, with constant bannings, that have consistently missed the mark on fixing the game. I love Magic, Commander is fun and Drafting is still an experience I immensly enjoy, but constructed Formats are just an absolute mess at the moment and Wizards is failing as a company.

Flumpor I can agree with all of that. Magic has it's quirks and has many broken cards and busted interactions.

Vintage is broken because they printed broken cards. If you play with balanced cards, the game is fine. Pauper, for example, is an amazing format, and is pretty cheap to boot, you can buy the whole metagame for less than a t1 modern deck. Yugioh is broken because the rules are broken. Being able to just keep going, cycling through your whole deck because there is nothing stopping you from just playing more draw spells is insane. It is so bad that any draw 2 effect is inherently broken. Every draw spell is a gitaxian probe, but better because you don't have to pay anything. Saying that game pace makes up for the brokeness is like saying that Force of Will makes up for all those broken cards in Legacy/Vintage. Also, you are comparing broken design with price tags, which are not remotely the same. And modern is fine, being a stable format isn't bad. It does sees meta shifts and new decks every now and then. I do agree that standard is a mess and Vintage/Legacy are way too expensive, though.
@TheJplsik
@TheJplsik 6 жыл бұрын
Vintage has a bunch of broken cards but is ridiculously skill intensive. Same with legacy. People tend to be counter happy when they’re new to the formats and blow their wad at the wrong time. In terms of balance give magic props for Modern, last GP had 8 different decks in the top 8. With somewhere between 20-24 in the top 32.

Can you imagine a one-sided D shifter? . And it looks like it can be cast beyond turn 1 as well, it's just it requires mana in that case (the equivalent in yugioh would be something like "if a DARK monster is on the field.."). . If that card existed, half of the meta would suddenly become rogue. Invoked Dogmatika can't play through it, Bird up can't play through it, Prank Kids can't play through it, Dragon link can technically play through it but they lose their follow-up. . The reason that doesn't matter now is D shifter is only played in a handful of decks. The thing that trips me up about YuGiOh is that there's no limit to how many spell cards you can play in a turn? As a Magic player, it seems so weird to me that that's a thing, and that's the main reason the game seems as bonkers at it does. In magic, mana cost is everything. You can play one land per turn, typically, so this all seems fair to me. The fact that drawing two cards in YuGiOh is considered broken is mind boggling to me. The fact that searching a deck ONCE is considered broken is also strange. Finally, the list of cards you were given contains some powerful stuff. Ancestral Recall and Time Walk *are* considered broken in Magic, precisely because they cost so little to cast, but at higher mana costs, they're perfectly fair effects.

Searches aren't broken in yugioh, *generic* searches are broken. What would be strong about Demonic Tutor is there's nothing it can't search (including FTK enablers). . Draw 2 in yugioh is broken on pot of greed only because it is costless. Pot of Desires and Extravagance attach costs to it and are legal and totally fine in yugioh (I'd argue Prosperity is splashable enough to need a hit, but that's not really a draw 2 anyway). . Pot of Greed's effect is an auto-include in any deck, in any format, and would be in magic as well if it was costless. . The only reason pot of greed wasn't banned in early yugioh is that there were so many other auto-includes in that format, the fact Pot of Greed would *always* be an auto-include was not too relevant. When the other auto-includes all got banned or powercrept, Pot needed to go.

As a magic player, I think your friends went a little overboard with the cards they sent you. Majority of those cards are banned in Magic, where we have mana costs to balance things out even. So of course they would also be banned in Yugioh, or at least some of them. Bloodbraid Elf has recently been unbanned and I agree it would be an interesting effect in Yugioh. I think more cards on that sort of powerlevel would be more interesting.

@KoniKoni Trainer - No, there's life in Magic too and you can use it to pay for things just like in YGO. The thing is that lands totally change the game because they go into your main deck and are the only way you can play your cards. It's really hard to explain that in YGO terms because the game just works in a fundamentally different way.

I'm going to quickly explain whether or not these cards are actually broken in magic. But first, a little background. Magic has different formats that all have slightly different rules, usually the rules are just deckbuilding constraints. There are plenty of formats, including some vey popular fan-made ones, but the main formats are. Standard - You can only use cards released in the past 2 years or so, few cards get banned since cards "rotate" out of the format after 2ish years. Modern - You can only use cards printed since 8th edition (which released in 2003) Legacy - You can play with cards from the entire history of magic, but the most broken cards are banned Vintage - You can play with cards from the entire history of magic, no cards are banned, but the most broken cards are restricted to one per deck. Another important factor in deciding whether or not a card is broken is the mana cost. The mana cost is the numbers and colored pips at the top right. The number of colored pips tells you how much of a certain color of mana you need, while the number tells you how much extra mana you need in any other color. The "converted mana cost" of a spell is the number of pips, plus the other number. So, for example the converted mana cost of Glorious End is 3, since it costs 1 red mana and more 2 mana of any color. Mana comes from lands, you can play one land per turn. Every turn, you can use a land once to make one mana. There are ways to get more mana faster, but for the sake of simplicity, think of the converted mana cost as the first turn of the game you would reliably be able to play that card. Now, onto the cards: Ponder - Extremely good, kinda broken. Banned in modern, restricted in vintage, but surprisingly fully legal in Legacy. Thoughtseize - Extremely good. Not banned anywhere, but a staple in modern and legacy. Leyline of the Void - Not broken, this card does nothing but hose graveyard decks, so it'll never be in your maindeck since it's a dead card most match-ups. Magic allows players to have 15 cards on the side of their deck (called a sideboard) that they can swap in and out of their dec after the first game of a match. This card will basically only ever be in the sideboard, and gets swapped in against graveyard decks. Glimpse of Nature - Pretty broken. mainly because it only costs 1 mana, making it very easy to play multiple creatures afterwards that turn. (and yes, if you play multiple in a turn they do stack). Banned in modern, the most important card in Legacy Elves, a very popular and strong deck in legacy. Surgical Extraction - Not super broken, usually only shows up in sideboards. Consecrated Sphinx - An extremely powerful effect, but it has a pretty high mana cost. Doesn't see much play since it is so expensive. Dark Confidant - Very strong, but pretty balanced. It requires you to put thought into how your deck is built (ie, don't put emrakrul, the promised end in your deck, or you risk taking 13 damage, which is close to killing you on its own) It's a staple in modern, since it basically lets you draw 2 cards a turn, for a price. Gitaxian Probe - Extremely good, kinda broken. Banned in modern, restricted in vintage, but surprisingly fully legal in Legacy. This card is mainly good since you can pay for it with life instead of mana, meaning it's basically "free" Glorious End - Kind of a goofy card in magic, not played anywhere really. Getting just one extra turn to win isn't that good if you spent a lot of your resources last turn casting this card. Bloodbraid Elf - Extremely good, was banned in modern, but it was unbanned earlier this year. Snapcaster Mage - Extremely good, staple in modern and legacy. I wouldn't really call it broken, but it's a very, very powerful card. Ancestral Recall - Arguably the most broken card in magic. Banned everywhere it can be and restricted in vintage. Richard garfield was clearly smoking crack when he decided it should only cost ONE MANA. The not broken version of this spell, Opportunity, costs 6x as much if that puts things into perspective. Demonic tutor - Extremely broken, I don't think I need to tell you why. Restricted in vintage and banned everywhere else. The not broken version of this spell, Diabolic Tutor, costs 2x as much. Future Sight - A fun spell, but not broken. It just costs too much mana, so it doesn't really see competitive play. Spellskite - Not broken, but pretty damn good. A staple in modern, sees some play in legacy. Dig Through Time - Pretty broken, Restricted in vintage, banned in elsewhere. the cost looks high, but the delve ability means that you'll pretty much always be playing this spell for 2 mana if you built your deck right. Phantasmal Image - Not broken. Being able to copy any creature for two mana is very strong, but the part you blah blah blah'd over says it dies basically just by being poked. A staple in two modern decks, Merfolk and Humans. Rest in Peace - Same story as leyline of the void, but this one is more popular. It doesn't come into play for free if you open with it, but it costs half as much, and nukes everything already in the graveyard so it's generally seen as better. Yawgmoth's Will - Super broken. Restricted in vintage, banned everywhere else. Supreme Verdict - Not really broken. Most dark hole effects in magic cost 4 mana, which is generally a balanced cost for the effect. This one sees some play in modern and legacy, since it's one of the stronger dark hole cards in magic. Emrarkul, The Promised End - Was only really broken in standard, where it was banned. And it was only broken in standard since you could "cheat" it into play much earlier than you should be supposed to play it with a card called Aetherworks Marvel. Timewalk - Another one of magic's most broken cards ever. Restricted in vintage, banned everywhere else. The not broken version of this card, Time Warp, costs 2.5x as much.

Thoughtseize isn't actually used that often in Legacy since they have Cabal Therapy, (pick a card, opponent reveals their hand and discards everything with that name, flashback - sacrifice a creature) which when combined with Gitaxian Probe and the fact that there's just way more must-have cards like Force of Will (5 mana OR exile a blue card and take 1 damage to counter target spell) there means it's just better.

With Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind as my commander and out with 3 artifacts i play Wheel of Fortune you lose 7 life then i play Winds of change for 1 red you lose 7 more life and then for the shits and giggles i play Timetwister you lose 7 more life oh look the heart of the cards has given me back Winds of change in my hand that i now play and you lose 7 more life XD A Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind deck is very broken mostly due to cards like Timetwister and Winds of change being very low cost. Also a lot of cards have very similar effects to Timetwister so get a good combo going with Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind and Psychosis Crawler and watch them take 86 damage in one turn as you play your red and blue Deck of Time. And if only ancestral recall was allowed in EDH my Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind would love the blue lightning bolt XD Then play a creature that deals them damage per card they draw then play Wheel and Deal they would have to discard their hand and draw 7 more cards then lose 7 more life well then it makes me draw a card so really 8 more life not 7. And people say Timetwister is not broken in EDH actually more so Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind is broken but have him out with Niv-Mizzet, Dracogenius and i could make a infinite damage combo with draw power. And it is fun on how many infinite combos you could think of in Magic. And yes it just so happens that i have a Timetwister that i use in a EDH........and if it where a three color deck i might add Underworld Dreams into it that way they will take damage equal to the cards they draw then Timetwister them to death. "You can use this as many times as you want" This is the key difference between Magic and Yugioh. Magic has more cost to cards. You don't just play a spell and it happens and you keep doing them. Imagine if a 3rd of your deck was just resources that you could only place 1 per turn and you had to pay a cost (not life points) to do literally anything. Very important distinction. From your perspective as a yugioh player translated to magic you're looking at these cards as though you could cast them for free whenever you want or have them in hand. Which is not the case at all.

Thats why magic is always gonna be more balanced. Magic has a resource management, so even tho the effects can be busted if you could just use it immediately, you have to take into consideration the amount of mana you can produce and better uses of it. It's a major reason that the banlist is considerably smaller, format breaking decks such as pepe are extremely rare, and generally most cards can be used in at least one of the many formats. I love yugioh but it 100% has balancing isssues.

Just to note, the following cards ARE banned (or restricted to 1) in at least 1 format: Ponder, Gitaxian Probe, Bloodbraid Elf (was until recently), Ancestral Recall, Demonic Tutor, Dig Through Time, Yawgmoth's Will, Emrakul, and Time Walk. Also, Think of CMC more like a monster's level than anything else. Now i want to see him react to famous MTG combos like Blood Bonds (Exquisite Blood + Sanguine Bonds for infinite life and infinite damage), Copy Cat (Saheeli Rai + Felidar Guardian for infinite creatures), and the Storm Mechanic (Copy a spell with storm once for each other spell cast before it in a single turn. Gets crazy when you can get someone from 20 to 0 in a single turn).

Yeah, so, magic is balanced by completely different game mechanics that you acknowledge, but don't fully address. Mana costs. A yugioh deck of 30 pot of greeds and a lock or otk combo would win 100% of the time on turn 1. A magic deck with 30 ancestral recall, 20 lands (for mana), and a win condition would be a good deck, but would still take a few turns, mulliganing to make sure you have a land, and would still face less hypothetical decks that win just as fast, just as often. And the inherent balancing of requiring mana is part of the reason MTG doesn't have to update the ban list nearly as often or severely.

Not really. There's better clones than phantasmal image. I only play a little bit of yugioh and not competitively, but I do play Magic competitively, so for me seeing you freak out over how good these abilities can be was really fun, I laughed every time you freaked out and you're right, these cards are really good ones, and the combos that players use them in are insane. One of the really funny parts was that you didn't even know the half of how broken some were because of how easy they are put into play, two of the ones you were surprised at you could just pay life points instead of the regular casting cost for. I noticed you kind of had a hard time coming up with what a good comparison for the mana cost was, and the comparison you made to Link Cost was pretty much on the nose. Having a mana cost for all the spells is basically like if in yugioh you needed to sacrifice monsters or pay life points for every card (monsters, spells, and traps), but instead of your normal summon and free to play you have cards that are designated to stay on the field all game and give you material to sacrifice to summon bigger monsters.

It's genuinely fascinating watching you do this, both because it's hilarious thinking "Pffft yeah aren't you happy you don't have thoughtseize lol" ((thoughtseize warped formats the same way full power dragon rulers did BUT)) but then you also have the ones where you're missing a fundamental part of MTG, which is its mana costs. (This is sepereate from this point but your upkeep happens BEFORE drawing so Dark Confidant is MUCH better.) If you truly did translate something like Consecrated Sphinx would easily have something akin to the Egyptian Gods in requiring a decent amount of resources to summon. In YGO, you can potentially create an unbreakable board on Turn-1, but in MTG, due to it's requirement of mana to play your cards, you are inheritantly forced to play steadier and slower due to not having immediate access to all your resources from Turn-1. There's also the matter of the color pie, and how it limits what kinds of cards can be in certain decks. For example, Monster Reborn, if done in MtG, could only exist in black, fundamentally being shut off from any deck not playing that color. I would totally suggest doing a followup video where you actually attempt to try translating some cards from MTG to YGO, that'd be pretty neat to see! (I can tell you right now that if you did something like Slifer or Obelisk, you'd have to look into stuff like "The Legend Rule" and other things in MTG, though.)

pokemon you can go through your entire 60 card deck t1, and are usually drawing 5-10+ cards a turn, to the point where the concept of card advantage is pretty much meaningless. The deck is more of a resource and most of the time you have to worry more about running out of cards than you do not having enough in your hand. Cards like super rod (shuffle 3 pokemon/energy from your discard into your deck) which would be terrible -1's in yugioh/magic are considered good cards in pokemon, and something like Roller Skates (flip a coin if heads draw 3, no other drawback) is considered bad just because it takes up a space in your deck. Shauna (shuffle, draw 5) is considered bad. Magic isn't even on the level of pokemon draw power.

Funny thing is, Emrakul isn't the only card in MTG that allows you to take your opponent's turn. Also, these cards aren't as over powered in mtg as they would be in yugioh. Magic has built-in costs, that being that you have to pay to cast cards. Emrakul for example is a 13 drop creature, meaning you have to pay 13 mana to get it out. This means you might not get it out until at least mid game.

I started Magic recently, and was especially amazed by how common self-bouncing effects are. So many otherwise innocent cards, that would absolutely be abused in Yugioh, but the mana costs keep them (mostly) in check in magic. There are a lot of differences in the games that come just from the fact that magic has mana costs, while yugioh doesn't.

Both of those just add the fun of the video, however. This video is really cool comparing the two games, but in reality you cant compare most of these cards to yugioh. The reason magic cards seem more broken is because alot of them need massive amounts of mana to use. Obviously these cards would be broken in yugioh but they would break the game. Magic is inherently a slower game then yugioh, needing set up time with mana. Still the premise of the video is a cool idea.

@Brawler_1337
@Brawler_1337 6 жыл бұрын
Alex Alcaraz Depends on the format. Yes, in eternal and non-rotating formats like Vintage, Legacy, Commander, and Modern, it’s very possible to have extremely fast games. All of those formats focus on using some of the biggest mistakes in the game’s history, as well as other cards that are just really pushed and really efficient. Not all decks in these formats are necessarily that fast, though, especially if some have the necessary tools to keep said fast decks in check. Where the game really slows down, though, is in Standard and in limited formats. Standard consists of cards from around six to eight of the most recent sets, so you don’t always have access to the really good cards that you find in other formats. Aggressive decks can sometimes win on turn 4 or 5 in Standard, but usually turn 6 and later are where games tend to be decided. In limited formats, you have an even smaller card pool because you’re opening packs to supply the cards for the pod. Whether you open a bunch of packs and just make a deck from what you open, or you open one pack at a time and draft the contents, the only cards that you will have access to are what comes out of each pack. Limited games therefore tend to be very creature-based and can go past turn 10, depending on what got opened and what kinds of deck everyone builds.

These cards can seem OP in Yugioh but in magic everything cost mana. Ya you can draw 2 cards but that could be all you could do in one turn. In Yugioh you can easily go through half of your deck in 1 or 2 turns based on how stupidly every card is as follows, "When you normal summon this card search your deck for X and special summon or add to hand. Then the next card is, when this card is special summoned get X card from your hand to the field. Then you have enough materials to bring out some link summon garbage from your deck. Then you XYZ summon some bullshit and it does X to other players monsters, then you trigger some effect on your XYZ and it lets you summon some other card your your extra deck or deck or so on. Oh and I forgot to mention you have X field card or backrow card that gives some form of protection to your cards. Oh and you have X card in your hand that is "instant" cast that stops your opponent from playing the game because some effect your their monster triggered. Its obvious that this is a game that constantly only stays relevant due to power creep on new mechanics. While lots of older cards struggle to remain relevant or competitive. It's so ridiculous that they thought bringing link summoning will somehow slow down the game. Because of all of this I can't even begin to teach any of my friends to play Yugioh based on the ridiculous learning curve and how every card has 2 paragraphs worth of text for them to read and to remember. Meanwhile I was easily able to teach them all magic and have fun with that. Magic is so much simpler and slower based and strategic. Compared to Yugioh its fast paced, memorized, and card draw centrist. Where the winner or magic uses their limited resources the most efficiently; Yugioh is about who draws the most resources from their deck in 2-3 turns. There has been games of Yugioh where my 40 card deck is down to less than 15 cards in less than 3-4 turns. And there, you easily used half your deck in 1 turn while in magic mana limits how much you can do per turn. Plus 95% of cards can't attack the turn they are summoned. Not saying Yugioh is bad because of this its just a very different and slower game that isn't controlled by power creep.
@KronosSupreme
@KronosSupreme 6 жыл бұрын
Even that card you mentioned that lets you control your opponents turn is balanced due to the mana cost. 13 freaking mana that only gets lower based on different card types. If you have no ramp this card can take 13 or even more turns to use. So for 13 turns you drew a useless card to your hand that can't be used and might never be used.

3:35 Dark Confidant in Yugioh would be you lose 200x it’s Level, though 500x level is probably more balanced. As for Cascade it would summon a monster with a lower level. In fact any thing that says mana cost just change to a monster’s level. I’m also assuming you did know research as ancestral Recall is banned in every format except Vintage and ante

Hybrid Yugioh Thing is, Planeswalkers are Main deck cards, and they aren't usually creatures that can attack. It's more like being supported by a second player as opposed to having another Monster on the field, since they actually have to be dealt with separate from the player... Unless you're just defeating the person who casted it.

I'll save you the trouble of watching a video like that. Extra Decks are broken and Planeswalkers in general aren't. The main distinct being Planeswalkers are not always available while Extra Decks are. Also there's been a lot more broken cards that are available in Extra Decks than Planeswalkers in MTG.

Well, in the original manga the card game was called "Magic & Wizards", before it was renamed to Duel Monsters. it was a nice nod to MTG.

Most of the dedicated graveyard hate in Magic exists because of a deck called dredge. Think lightsworns on steroids. In Vintage (Think traditional format) there are dredge decks that can kill you before you take a turn.

So it’s Lightsworns..... Lightsworn Omega Loop kills you before you take your turn.....

Generally it is worse because it is more consistent. It can also be combined with discard a card draw a card effects to basically cycle cards into your graveyard at little to no cost and without ever having them to hit the field. It would be easier though to just explain the effect dredge. if you would draw a card instead mil (discard from the top of your deck) x cards (different amount for every card) take this card from your grave yard and return it to your hand. The best/worst part is that dredge isn't the primary effect of these cards like some lightsworn cards. Both of these you basically want of the field, but thanks to dredge you will likely continue to see them every turn, for relatively low cost plays. Still these aren't even good dredge combo's Necroplasm 1BlackBlack (3) Creature - Ooze (1/1) At the beginning of your upkeep, put a +1/+1 counter on Necroplasm. At the beginning of your end step, destroy each creature with converted mana cost (think number of stars on creatures) equal to the number of +1/+1 counters on Necroplasm. Dredge 2 or Stinkweed Imp 2Black (3) Creature - Imp (1/2) Flying Whenever Stinkweed Imp deals combat damage to a creature, destroy that creature. Dredge 5

Dredge in Vintage is basically YGO. You don't really need mana to play it. You just need a single draw/grave dump engine called Bazaar of Baghdad which is a land that acts like a continuous spell with no mana cost. Then you just chain graveyard effects or play spells sacrificing creatures that reenter from the graveyard anyway. And still, nope, Dredge never wins before turn 2, that's Flash Hulk, the only real Tier 0 deck the game ever had that could win before your opponent had the chance to play and was banned more or less right away

I knew this would be funny since i play and love both games and i actually like that you added a lot of low manacost cards too. I really expected griselbrand, door to nothingness and other cards like this who basically instantkill the enemy if you had enough mana. But the manacosts you showed (even with one emrakul) was pretty fair.

There's a MANA system in MTG, which helps to balance the effects, in case you forgot.
