As a CA casa, our judge only appoints casa if he feels there needs to be a second set of eyes on a case (likely due to there not being enough of us). We also have to meet weekly with our kiddoes. Our orders give us access to them anywhere they are. At least once a month I like to take them out of the home (to the park, dinner, museum....) to build the bond. It's similar to me, like an aunt role when I'm with them. We also have access to speak to their doctor and any therapist they are working with. Raising my own kids as a single mom, I chose to work almost exclusively in single mom cases (you do get to choose your own case among the ones waiting). Even though we sign up for an 18 month commitment, cases can run from a couple months to years if it's a child that will age out. Every kid deserves a casa. It's that one person who stays in their life through multiple placements, schools, and social workers.
