Good morning Steve. Thank you for taking the time to explain what a cycle car is. Great job,! I’ve been retired now for a few years, built a 51 Chevy 5 window, also part time serious woodworker, amateur welder. I have been thinking of doing a project with my 12 year old granddaughter, this is exactly perfect! She has watched your Video & now really understands & is very interested. I am in Canada approximately 3000 miles from Arizona, it’s great to be able to have such a helpful North American neighbour. Thank you for your time & consideration. Now I will start gathering parts & hopefully have things lined up before we begin. Vic

I love the spirit of these cyclekarts. I just feel like a small shifter style like a 212 4 wheeler or such engine would be fantastically fun. Nothing crazy like a Harley engine but something to shift and add another element of old world. A shifter hanging off the outside of the kart and my scarf blowing in the wind... I think I'm going to build one. I live in Missouri so I doubt I'd ever make it up to Washington but if I did hopefully I wouldn't be shunned 😅
@stevevinson6030
@stevevinson6030 Жыл бұрын
Events are popping up in Oklahoma, Utah, New York, New Hampshire and Arizona. I agree the shifter would be fun, guys in other countries, Argentina specifically, have used those motors with good success. Maybe build it to where you can easily swap in a cheap predator with the TAV, just in case you want to go play with others?

To "love the spirit" of the cyclekarts is to totally embrace what they are and what they are not. Believe me, everyone else long ago already thought of "why not make it go FASTER?" because they took a look at the 200cc industrial engine and scoffed. They are fantastically fun as-is. Sure, there's no practical limit to putting in ever higher powered engines and upgrading everything for more and more speed, but you'll end up racing alone because you hated the spirit of the cyclekarts. No one will have a cyclekart to match yours.... Just FYI to keep your vision in perspective.

feel like a kart based on the 1905 Darracq landspeed car would be 3 of 3 things, 1 banned from even being driven because i highly doubt chicken wire for a floor is allowed, 2 it has no body or actual floor so it'd be a lot lighter and 3 spend a lot of time going sideways although i do wonder if there is proper rallies with these (i mean like british and european rally, the kind that evolved into things like wrc kinds of rally) it would probably be a great test of small scale engineering, skill and overall a great laugh... the times would be awful tho, then again, some small kart engines are fairly potent for their displacement

Basic upgrades including a cam are OK, we try to discourage people from building hi performance Race Engines. This is a gentleman's sport, not serious competition. Its lonely running at the front of the field like Max Verstappen

I'd like to build one mainly for the building pleasure/challenge and then as a novelty to ride around the lake and in local parades. I understand the logistics of the kart motor, but I'm not sure I'd enjoy the lawnmower sound for my use. Maybe an electric would be a fun challenge or something with a meatier sound. I have a feeling your videos are going to haunt me until I build one.

Good explanation. I've seen that different events across the country require different criteria for their karts. Is there a such thing as a complete kart that would compete anywhere? I suppose adding headlights and tail lights to this one would make it complete to compete?

Would look cool with Harley wheels. 16 inch heavy rims. Do you use Honda CT 90 rims front and back ? Is it within club parameters to use a different, heavier rear rim? If your beating up rear axles, I will too, as Im heavier then you by a 10 or 70 lbs. Superb build !
@stevevinson6030
@stevevinson6030 2 жыл бұрын
The heavier rims just add weight and cost. Yes, I use Honda CT 90 rims, 2 fronts and 2 rears. This combo is pretty durable. Yes if you drive especially hard, you will break spokes. Many guys have had years of fun with cyclekarts and have never broken a spoke, so it depends on your driving style.

I briefly read some CycleKart "rules" where they stated that they've been building them with a strong emphasis on one-wheel drive and not a live axle or differential. The source was several years old at this point---is that no longer the case, if it ever was the case?
@stevevinson6030
@stevevinson6030 9 ай бұрын
No longer the case, evolution and improvements. this is lifted from the most recent Builders Guidelines on Gittreville GP, "We decided to not ban final drive differentials. We have found that these enhance drivability tremendously. Differential units may be challenging to fit in the budget and track restriction might prove problematic, but they are not otherwise ruled out. The classic cyclekart formula advocates one wheel drive. Our committee does not entirely agree. Solid rear axle, differential unit or one-wheel drive are all allowed in the GRAND PRIX CLASS."
