WHAT IS A DISNEY BUBBLE?!?

I don’t think you can actually POP a Disney bubble, and if you do I think it’s grounds for a ban. Either way, they used the Disney soapy water and bubble want to blow it, they can make the rules.
Has the comparison gone too far at this point?

One of the reasons it was a terrible idea to get rid of Disney's Magical Express is that that effectively extended the WDW bubble all the way to Orlando International Airport. And, in a small way, to before you even got on the plane at your departure airport. You'd put those yellow tags on your bags and know that you were checking them through to your hotel room on property. I think the most brilliant little touch was that when you got to the Magical Express station at the airport, you could check in by scanning a MagicBand, like you were getting on a ride. Part of the message was that you were in the Mouse's hands now. Even if it was really a pretty ordinary coach ride from there on, you knew you'd already arrived in some sense.

Agreed, it existed on my families first trip, but we hit Universal first for a couple days so missed the trip there. I was looking forward to riding it both ways on our next trip, but it was gone. I feel like they would have made the money from the bus back on the extra night I'd have stayed. As it is I stay at a cheaper hotel first night to avoid spending Disney prices just to sleep after a flight.

When I was a cast member in Anaheim during training they talked a lot about the sequencing from the big sign to the parking lot through the turnstiles into the foyer and then through the tunnels into Main Street. (No CA back then). But also about things like when people would ask if there were actual sit down restaurants - especially Europeans who wanted a real meal - plug the ability to take the monorail out to the hotel and eat there and then monorail back. It kept the money in-house but also the guests were THRILLED that it was so simple because they figured it was a total long shot they would actually get to eat a meal with actual metal forks and so forth.

I didn’t properly respect the Disney bubble and post Disney depression until returning home from Florida last year. It was more like a horrible drug withdrawal. I felt DREADFUL for months. I went on holiday and came home a fanatical addict. Now I spend my spare time booking fictional holidays on the Disney site trying to calculate when I can afford to return.

The last time I went to The Magic Kingdom (which was admittedly a lifetime ago) I was fine with the idea of leaving the park until we were on the ferry headed back to the car, in the lagoon, at night, looking back at Main Street and the Cinderella Castle with "When you Wish Upon a Star" playing on the speakers of the boat. I wanted to literally scream, "Take me back!!!"

Whenever I visit, I take the bubble concept a little further and avoid social media and the news while I’m in the “bubble”. On solo trips, I’ll read a Disney related book on my phone while waiting in line. It makes a much more relaxing vacation.
@nunyabiznuss3756

...and then Genie totally ruined that experience. Being tethered to a phone for virtual queues, ticketing, and restaurant reservations completely ruins the experience, at least for me. Pre-covid, I used to leave my phone at the hotel; but that's pretty much an impossibility now. The virtual bubble doesn't even seem to be a consideration now.

When I was a child, my father had to go to Disneyland for business. We lived in Los Angeles county, so the park wasn't far away. Now, I was only eight or nine, and had zero interest on the why and how any business would be conducted at Disneyland, so I don't know the particulars and Dad is gone now, so there is no one to ask. In my child brain, I had an anxiety attack because I wasn't getting to go to Disneyland. I made my dad promise me that we would go to Disneyland in the future. And we did, as a family, every year, until my mid teen age time hit and I would go with my friends or on dates. Many years later in life, when my Dad hit his eighties, I found out how seriously he took his Disneyland pledge to me. He asked me, in an almost formal way, if I would release him from his Disneyland promise that he made all those years ago. This surprised me, as I didn't think he would even remember it. Of course, I agreed. About six years later, my father had a stroke and passed. It now brings tears to my eyes that my father carried that promise and me in his heart for all those years.

I'm not sure that Disney understands the value of the bubble as much these days. If they did, they never would have gotten rid of the Magical Express which basically put everybody into the Disney ecosystem as soon as they landed at the airport.

Tokyo Disney's transportation is my favorite of all the resorts. The monorail is incredibly efficient and it's so easy to maneuver. Not to mention, the monorail is absolutely superior in theme. It makes the WDW monorails look like an ancient relic. I think some hotels are provide bus transportation to and from the part, namely official ones and I guess some good neighbor hotels. Ikispiari (basically Downtown Disney) is part of Maihama station so visiting there is super easy to get to.

One thing you didn’t mention about the bubble is the feeling of safety. When I was at WDW in April (my first time since 1982!), I was really nervous about being in Florida. But inside the Disney Bubble I felt safe and comfortable, knowing Disney’s policies on inclusion and diversity. I think that’s a huge benefit of the bubble!

@@LARKXHIN Well, the rhetoric had gotten bad, the legislation was moving, some regulations had already gone into effect….April wasn’t as bad as now, but it was still pretty bad. For decades I would go to the Disney World, to be included in that sheltered Disney bubble. Occasionally, I would slip thru that Disney bubble, to take that day trip to Universal Studios, and then rush right back to Disney. As Universal Studios continued to blossom, I would occasionally slip into the Universal Studios bubble, for a night, and again rush back to the Disney bubble. With the approaching Epic Universe property, that Disney bubble may start experiencing large gapping holes. I will still enjoy that Disney bubble, but I may not be in that much of a hurry to get back, after being absorbed into the Universal Studios bubble.

So Dyln you are in good company talking about the "Disney bubble". When I worked at Disneyland in the 70's Ray Bradbury came to the resterant I worked at called the Plaza Pavillion. He told me that he has watched it at the tunnels entering the park...he said people changed as soon as they came in..he told me you could see it on peoples faces.. To me that berm and tunnel type entrance is one of the things missing from DCA...it sucks by comparison to me.. Anyway...thank you for your work..hope to meet you one day

The steps to get to MK was even worse when the security bag check used to be at the park entrance. So if you brought something you couldn’t bring in and needed to bring it back to your car, you’d have, gone a tram, rode a monorail, got told to turn around, rode the monorail, then the tram, then walked to your car, back on the tram, and back on the monorail to wait at bay check once more

Took our trip at the beginning of June for the first time in 4 years and the bubble is still strong at Disney world. Not only the sight lines and the massive size of the property but it’s the way people act too! From the cast members to the vacationers absolutely everyone is so nice and happy to be there (there’ll always be a few rude people but hey! In this heat? I get it) however the landscaping went a little bit down hill- so curated they cut down some trees and shrubs that did sight line work. Mild critique but

I love both parks for very different reasons. WDW is a bubble that takes me completely out of the real world. But I also believe that the use case for WDW is about 5%. Disneyland, on the other hand, is a bubble that is better suited to 95% of the time because the bubble almost extends a bit to the surrounding areas. Disneyland is so easy to get to that it feels like something you can do spontaneously (especially if you’re a local). Because of this, I almost feel like I have a sense of ownership with the park because it’s essentially “in my backyard”. It’s so accessible and often doesn’t have to be this big ordeal. While at WDW, I often don’t mind driving through everything, parking the car, walking to transportation, walking some more, and then entering the park because I am on vacation. However, this would quickly get on my nerves if I were a local in Orlando. Bubbles exist in both but very different bubbles. I think they’re both successful bubbles considering both resorts are working with what they’ve got to the best of their abilities.

Depending on the day and my energy level I sometimes took the Anaheim Resort Transit to the convention center, with the necessary transfer outside Disneyland. Even deeply involved in Star Wars all weekend, every time I found myself waiting for a bus listing to that music, I was drawn into the Disney Bubble and wanted to go to the parks.

I’ve been to Shanghai Disneyland twice as well as worked on a vekoma motocoaster for that park. It’s the LEAST “Disney” of any park in the world. It’s the least immersive park in the company and the fact that the company called it a “Disneyland” without ANY of the attractions, save for a castle… is just tragic. it’s a fun park - just a disappointment for real Disney fans. And I will say, the technology employed for pirates is pretty phenomenal, but most everything else in the park is themed skins/overlays on pre-existing flat rides and out of the box coasters.

I do widh more parks would try to emulate the bubble Disney does more. There's only two I've been to that, thanks to their location, at least try and that's Dollywood in Tennessee (for the most part the park sits in woods between and around the hills whose valley it rests inside, with the only outside world views being the access roads and the cabins built atop the neighboring mountains) and Silver Dollar City in Missouri (the entire park sits atop a mountain with trees pretty much everywhere and the only immersion breaking you get is atop coasters like Wildfire where you can see the distant neighboring lake and the homes built along it or from atop the drop tower ride where you can see the backlots of the park).

Y'know even if its entirely to keep patrons on the property for their entire stay, Disney's infrastructure is ironically a really good example for a very efficient town transit, perhaps way more efficient than the mans own design for a legitimate town. It prioritizes options, all paths lead to key areas within the structure, and the transit is consistent enough to be understandable and reliable. The biggest issues with public transit is its understand-ability and reliability, you need to be sure that you're getting on the right bus, and its taking you to the right place, and its going to actually be there on time. When all those conditions are met, public transit actually massively edges out cars, but Disney also lets you walk, it lets you drive, and none of those options are eating at each other the way stroads and badly designed bike paths do.

Cast members living in Central Florida refer to the whole area around the Disney parks as the Disney Bubble because the whole Central Florida area has a completely different political climate than the rest of Florida. There are significantly more queer people in this area and it seems like a lot of people living around here are also cast members.
