The Spaceship Earth of Theseus? The Spaceship of Theseus... Earth? 🤣 Horizons was, and is still, my favorite attraction ever in the world. And I have been to a lot of parks, and been on a heck of a lot of rides. Not to mention watch every dark ride and coaster video I get my hands on.

What if EPCOT 1.0 was never really EPCOT since it was so different from Walt Disney's original vision?

Unfortunately, the Odyssey restrooms were renovated a few years ago. As an alternative, there are restrooms post security but pre touch points that are still original.

The flaw in your theory is that the ship gets replaced with boards that look exactly the same, as where Epcot gets replaced with things that look totally different. Apples and oranges my friend.

I have been going to Disneyland since 1957 and still go quite a few times a year. It has changed a lot BUT it is still Disneyland -- I still remember Space Station X-1, the Bathroom of Tomorrow and Rainbow Ridge Pack Mules. I now take my grandson there. Over the years things have but it is still Disneyland.

A real EPCOT purist would say none of this is EPOCT. It was supposed to be a city where people lived and worked. Having just visited I don’t hate the new stuff but it is no longer the adult park. It’s still our favorite but not really as educational as the old park was. It’s much less about the future than it is IP. It would be nice to see the old spirit of EPCOT come back.

I think, according to Walt Disney's own belief, EPCOT as we know it today *is* the original, but not without having changed along the way. I mean, if we're being technical, the original EPCOT is the Experimental Protoype Community Of Tomorrow that never came to be, but I think Walt had some quote about how Disney would never be complete, which I would extrapolate to mean that the parks are a consistent, ever-changing thing that molds with the time. Am I the original version of me, even if I had a surgical procedure that changed my appearance or got a new tattoo or cut my hair? I think the answer is something like change is good and a natural part of life, but also I wasn't born early enough to have ridden Horizons, so I'm gonna say that living in the past is alright sometimes. We can long for, appreciate, and remember the past, but at the end of the day we have to be happy where we are and roll with the punches (even if sometimes the punch is demolishing a true work of art).

It's like if Fantasyland was built today, with modern ride technology. So nice to see so many beautiful classic-style dark rides, and the animatronics are so smooth I had to keep reminding myself it's not animation EDIT: they even have the pirate ship and skull Island from old Fantasyland!

really Living with the Land and Spaceship Earth is still some of my favorites. I miss the ORIGINAL Imagination Pavilion and of course Horizons. I liked the older versions of the Mexico ride but meh ... the ride itself is what i meant.

I visited EPCOT Center in December of 1982 as a college freshman. I have to say that EPCOT was mind-blowing. It was unique, cutting edge, and maybe even a life changing experience. The problem is that even if EPCOT had not physically changed one single bit in the past 40+ years, it still would not be original EPCOT. The world has changed and the internet has made it smaller and less mysterious. Technology is not as wonderous as it once was because it is moving rapidly and we learn about advancements almost immediately. Different world cultures are not as fascinating as they once were because we can virtually experience them at any time. What I am trying to say is that when EPCOT opened, it provided a sense of awe and conveyed a feeling of optimism that it really cannot duplicate today. Sadly, there can no longer be an original EPCOT Center.

The Hatbox Ghost was never a vengeful spirit until Disney's recent Haunted Mansion movie remake. In fact, there was no evil inside the attraction until the introduction of the head-lopping Black Widow Bride. (The Ghost Host's hanging by suicide is more of a tragedy than evil.) The Hatbox Ghost was merely a character described as having "an evil, grinning face." But the original figure was more comical than sinister. His place is, indeed, inside the attic, NOT the endless hallway, the setting used in the horrible film. In the ride, the ghosts are summoned by Madam Leota's incantation. It is only then that they're able to come out to socialize. So, it's a huge blunder to have Hattie appear before visitors arrive at the seance circle.

The energy of Epcot Center/EPCOT drastically changed from 1995-2000 (and beyond). It’s hard to take anyone’s critique seriously if they never visited the park before this time.

Such a small part of the video, but I love the usage of white Vision’s line at the beginning. People who’ve seen Wandavision know it’s a reference to that scene when they actually talk about the ship of Theseus, but people who didn’t watch it just see it as an appropriately timed clip.

Honestly I think they should add a area like the beyond big thunder mountain but instead they should add a expansion to the rapunsul bathrooms and add the rapunsul area from fantasy springs. I also think if they add all of the fantasy springs to Disney world it might confuse people with Disney springs. I mean when I first heard it in my mind I was like”Disney Springs?”

EPCOT 1.0 was the best, end of discussion. Horizons. World of Motion. Universe of Energy. Journey into Imagination. Maelstrom. All had classic animatronics. Screen usage was secondary to the scene, not the focal point of the scene. Phenomenal background music. Maybe most important, NO IP!!!! Hell, I'd take Ellens Universe of Energy over some of the garbage Disney puts out today.

The current Epcot has little to resemble the original EPCOT Center. The original has purpose with a great edutainment factor that no other place in the world offered. The cultural experiences were rather authentic, but still in a "safe place". As a kid, EPCOT Center was always my favorite place. It blended entertainment, education, and most importantly inspiration. Today's Epcot is really kinda pointless and could soon be called IPcot as it's got more and more intellectual property happening everywhere. That's surely what a lot of people want and those folks are getting that. But what I do miss is that timeless inspiration that the place had. It made learning about things fun. It enlightened and inspired some folks to dig deeper into either topics or cultures. It was definitely fun, entertaining, and educational all at once. I mean, as great as World of Motion was, the original Test Track was a really great replacement. The destruction of Universe of Energy could have been that original roller coast that Eisner wanted which would have revolved around the big bang -- what a missed opportunity. There's really not much inspiration there today other than to buy Disney+ subscriptions. The millennium celebration was truly incredible as it was all about joining cultures in a prideful celebration. Even Reflections of Earth told the story of "us". Today, sadly, the only stories being told are those of cartoons in make believe worlds. I mean, isn't that what Magic Kingdom is for?

I worked at Odyssey and World Premiere (back adjacent employee Cafe) in 91-93ish before switching over to MK attractions (JC). It was a very busy restaurant with a day long repetitive but fun character show. And an amazing burger bar that was like a salad bar. Fun memories, but was happy to leave F&B. Also, good epcot went away with the crazy long extension of Reflections of Earth and that awful wand thing, and, yes, the destruction of Journey Into Imagination...and now, Morocco 😢

Hi, it's me. I'm the EPCOT Center purist; it's me. After my last trip in 2008, I swore to never return. When the name lost all sense of mission statement, I lost all interest in that park. Since 1994, the park has become a bittersweet disappointment. I challenge you to name one major change to the park that was a true improvement? At best, Frozen Ever After is a lateral change from Maelstrom... and yes, Horizons was everything you have wanted/ hoped/ dreamed it to be and so much more. Dammit man, now I need to go watch some ride-through videos of those lost rides.
