Here's something interesting you should know about lymph nodes and your immune system.
Timestamps
0:08 The lymphatic system
0:45 Most important lymph nodes function
1:37 What's inside a lymph node?
4:50 What happens in the lymph node
5:25 What can cause issues with the lymphatic system?
In this video, we're going to talk about lymph nodes and your immune system.
You can think of the lymphatic system as a back-up drainage system to prevent excess fluid retention. But, this is just a minor function. The big function is the activation of the immune system.
One of the purposes of the lymph nodes is to keep a pathogen from spreading throughout the body. You will have an entire war going on within the lymph nodes if there is a pathogenic microbe.
A person has hundreds of lymph nodes throughout the body. Inside of a lymph node, there are lymphocytes. There are three primary lymphocytes:
1. Natural killer cells (kill viral-infected cells)
2. T cells (kill specific microbes and determine self from non-self)
3. B cells (make antibodies)
Inside of the lymph node:
• There are a lot of antibody reactions going on
• The immune system presents tiny parts of pathogens to the T cells
• There is a lot of lymph-blood exchange
• It filters certain cancer cells
The spleen is the largest lymph node. When someone has their spleen out, they have an increased risk of infection. Chronic stress activates cortisol, which then can shrink the lymphatic system. A zinc deficiency is another thing that can cause issues with the spleen and the entire lymphatic system.

@@pam5389 Dr. Berg has some videos on the thyroid. My experience, after decades of hypothyroidism, was that I need to increase my levels of zinc, iodine and selenium (which help the body convert thyroid hormones into usable forms), and help my liver function better. I used Milk Thistle to improve my liver function. I also made sure that I was getting enough of the essential amino acids to make enough thyroid hormones - tryptophan and tyrosine (eat turkey). It took a while, but I now have a healthy liver and thyroid after decades of being on synthetic thyroid hormones. I hope this helps.

@jacobclark2409

Karen White Steamed cruciferous vegetables, and mainly a plant-based diet is what I found is best for fighting disease and cancer. Also a lot of information shows that typically cancer feeds off of carbs and sugar, so a good suggestion might be to reduce the carbs in your diet. Try to get all of your trace minerals in as well as your B vitamins. Remember, reducing the toxin level of the body and increasing the enzyme and nutrient level is always going to show benefits and results, I hope the best for you and I hope you can fight your illness off. May the Heavenly Father bless you.

Suzanna 2014 Sometimes it’s necessary. My wife had one on the side of her neck go bad and blow up like a golf ball! Very unsightly. Wouldn’t go away. Feared it was Cancer but thankfully it wasn’t. Never received a definitive answer from the lab? Doctor believed cat scratch fever was the culprit. Tested her for everything under the sun including TB, and other serious infectious diseases. All negative. Once it was removed her chronic fatigue went away.

Suzanna 2014 Thanks. I don’t know if it could of played out any better. My wife is into holistic remedies. She lived with that condition for months, actually from February to July, trying various natural solutions and waiting it out. We went through four different doctors before settling on the one. Of course the other doctors all wanted to remove it for biopsy asap. But at least the doctor we chose tested her for basically every possible underlying issue instead of just rushing her into surgery. Through examination he did not believe it was Cancer. During that ordeal my wife was like a different person, seriously fatigued, sleeping all day. Glad to have her back! Just wish we had a definitive answer on what it was. We were told the lymph node is similar to a dumping ground for bacteria - sometimes when the bad guy gets in he doesn’t want to leave. Sounds childish but I guess it kind of sums it up.

Dr. Berg, what do you think about Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy for cancer staging? It removes one, or a couple of nodes to check for micro-metastases. Side effects include lymphoedema, but what about muscle strength and endurance? From my point of view, we neglect this also cuts off the lymphatic network. Are there alternatives doctors don’t talk about? Would like your take on this practice. Thank you.

Hello Dr Berg.. I do appreciate having a MD talk about the Lymph system. Lymphedema is a major part of my and many other's life.. every day when I stand up it is countdown... I have researched and swim daily, drink burdock root tea, with dandelion root turmeric, ginger, cleavers, red root.. now I eat healthy as an omnivore kind of a primal ( never had a sweet tooth) I am seeing keto work for some with Lymphedema. The population of cancer survivors is growing along with it is the population that react by getting lymphedema from removal in surgery or damaged by treatment .. my surgery 2019, 24 % got lymphedema now in 2021 is 34% .. so if you the math .. this is becoming a major deal and would love for you to take a look at keto , I am curious about the electrolytes salt intake and keto... especially...for those who have lymphedema and are trying keto and doing well when we are told to reduce salt....

@@testimusicali6445I use Burdock root for tea with the other ingredients together,. I buy them separately and mix them in a tea pot and drink all together.. I steep it all at least 10 minutes. Be sure they are organic as they are all roots and roots can absorb lead... I sometimes mix in other things for a change of tastes but Burdock root is the main one for lymphedema.. it cleans the lymph while being a diuretic and is gentle to your system.. in fact it helps make your hair thick and shiny .. after the third month of daily use I felt a difference! My haircutter said yes they make hair salon product lines with it.. It is also a food in Japan the gobo root .. like a long white "carrot".. so it is way more safe and effective than Lasix .. which only gets rid of the liquid but you are left with the toxins in your tissues ...not for daily use .. Lymphedema is a life long condition and progressive if you don't manage it... you would think medicine would do better.. when 40% of cancer survivors react with this condition after treatments...

Cinnamomum Zeylanicum oil + Zinc Picolinate. & at a separate conjunction Peppermint oil + Chromium + Vit E + Liposomal Vitamin C. The only other new addition has been the AllSpice as a seasoning. I haven't the coin for the oil. There's something special to that first 2conjunctions tho & I feel it. It feels like wellness is growing inside me, but I do a lot of the right stuff at the right time, & I don't live to play slack on it for what I've been given to work with in life.

@@testimusicali6445 many cancers feed on Glucose ( sugar molecules) & Glutamine (protein amino acids) if some is concerned they have an active cancer they should be working to limit those in the body, granted your body will break down fats to make those molecules anyways, but the more into ketosis you are the less cancer can feed and spread, in fact it slowly starts to starve. At this point, I would need a book to explain the rest. But do note other cancers feed on ketones. Sooo, either way lowering your proteins IF one is concerned about active cancer, active immune response, this is a good place to start. But it should always be of concern when one side is inflamed and not the other. Something is wrong.

@@nikkyshairades9078 I love Dr Berg, but if I did keto, I would do Thomas DeLauer. He does a Mediterranean Keto. At this time, I have to have lots of veggie juice 32 oz a day, which breaks the keto, but I do IF 6 hr window. But if you lookup Thomas DeLauer , what to eat in a day ( he has a male and female one) that is pretty darn close to what I do

I had recently been diagnosed with stage 2b cervical cancers that has spread to tissue outside the cervical wall and into the upper part of the uterus. They want to start chemo and radiation. Can I build my immune system in hopes to keep it relatively strong as I undergo treatment?

I had lymph nodes removed on the left and notice that I no longer sweat under my arm on that side. Others who've had lymph nodes extracted have experienced the same. I'm trying to understand the connection between sweat glands and the lymphatic system. Can you please explain?

What is your opinion on swollen neck nodes (under the ear) in 6 years old child? They are not visible, but you can touch and feel them..over the size of peas - 2 out of 3. Thanks! 🙏

Dr. Berg, I’m not sure what about my lymphatic system. My upper arms(not between my elbows to hands)and my thighs ( not between my knees to feet) got really large, please what can I do to reduce them back.
