What is a Maryland dental bridge?

#shorts A Maryland bridge is a type of bonded dental bridge that can be used to replace a missing front tooth. It is much less expensive than a dental implant and it does not require grinding down two healthy teeth like a traditional 3 tooth fixed bridge. The backs of the teeth next to the space are trimmed and the Maryland bridge is bonded to the teeth.

I very much need this! I have a baby tooth with no adult tooth above it so it’s finally rotting out- I am so embarrassed that I’ve waited but I can NOT have a missing tooth & don’t have 1.5K for an implant. I’m doing this bridge thing for sure🙏🏾🥹

I tried this maryland tooth in replacement of false denture. The maryland tooth didnt last month despite of me taking care of it. It was pure aesthetic, cant use the side part of my mouth for biting food. After that I resorted to fixed bridge cuz it's less expensive than a tooth implant. Been 2 years since then

Maryland bridges are very technique sensitive. Dentists that are good at placing them, love them. The rest of us recommend either dental implants or Monodont bridges. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/q5mAYNFlpsnbaHk.html

@@VeryNiceSmileDental Yh so worse case if the maryland bridge falls out or damages then you can just place a new one right? Since none of the teeth including the adjacent ones are damaged.

As a person who works on these about 3x/ week I can tell you that these Maryland bridges are great to replace the missing tooth, but, they have horrible retention and will most likely fall out or come unglued within 2-3 yrs. But hey, if it fills in the gap, who cares if you have to get it recemented every couple years haha

That's not what's been described in the literature. It's about equal to conventional bridges in anterior teeth

I’ve heard quite the opposite, most research I’ve seen said they can last up to 8-10-years, some even 15, either way, I could live with replacing it every 2-3 years if needed.

i had this done around 2 years ago, u just gotta be careful with what u eat 😭 and i still have the fear everyday that it’s gonna become loose or fall out, but luckily so far it’s still intact !

Advantages: Will not damage enamel I think the design of the Maryland dental bridge, can prepare for dental implants. When enough funds are available, the Maryland dental bridge can be dismantled, and replaced with dental implants.

I think a regular bridge is better for me top right and bottom jaw. Because this one doesn’t file the other teeth but clearly lasts alot shorter where as the other one has a greater chance of lasting up to 15 years depending on how well I take care of it.

Front teeth are usually more difficult to treat. I rec implant if you can afford it. Unlike the other options it retains the bone structure long term so your jaw doesn’t degrade. Don’t be too sad things happen and you’ll prob know better from now on. I definitely do.

It can but it's relying on the cement to hold it in place. I tell my patients to avoid biting into foods with the Maryland bridge.

Hello, how do you clean the Maryland Bridge? Is it convenient to floss? I'm worried that it's not easy to clean, and can easily breed bacteria?

The way my chipped tooth was fixed is with a bunch of filling, making it semi-transparent, but if it lasts as long as the reattachment of the original tooth did when it first broke, it'll fall out to be replaced by a crown right when I'm done growing.

Hi, my guess is that it was invented in Maryland. The oldest dental school in the USA is in Baltimore, MD.

The back of the tooth erh has to be "adjusted" aka shaving down the back of the tooth...lol

It's adjusted just enough to show a finish line for the lab. The prep doesn't go through the enamel at all.

Hi, I said the teeth don't need to be ground down like they would be for a conventional 3 tooth fixed bridge. For a maryland bridge, the prep is very shallow and doesn't go through the enamel.

Implants, if you can afford them, are still much better. They stimulate the bone, preventing bone loss, and they'll last so much longer.

Wanna do an implant for one of my molar tooth that was removed and my dentist said it will cost me $1,370 is this true? He explained that after inspection of everything, they'll drill and install a metal that will be there for 6 months then after cells have grown around it, they will insert the final tooth. Does it work this way? I'm afraid of constant headaches and pain that I believe accompany such a dental procedure

Hi, talk to your dentist about the complete cost of having a tooth replaced with a dental implant. Costs involved will be be the dental implant, the post, and the crown, plus bone grafts possibly. In my area (just north of NYC) an implant, post, and crown cost close to $4k from start to finish. Most people say they don't have any discomfort after having the implant placed.

I have had the same flipper fromt tooth for 15 years. I am getting a bridge done in May. I am scared it will not last as long as the flipper. BUt my gums are so inflamed after 15 years. 🦷🦷💪🫶
