Their is a service dog for anxiety. It's called a psychiatric service dog but you have to have an anxiety disorder. That's what most people are confused about when they approach my service dog.

Why not have a sign?? If it is so important to keep people from talking to them or distracting them you should warn them at least... I didn't know that and I'm that kind of person who greets and talks to every animal I encounter... I think many people interrupt their service because they don't know they're working

I have a service dog because I cant go one day at school or public without having a panic attack and crying and freaking out and shortly after going home...and I missed 84 days of my first year of middle school and had to redo half of it over my Christmas and thanksgiving and part of summer. I recently got my SD and I can go to the grocery store now and feel secure and safe. I also suffer from severe allergies and asthma and I can’t breathe at all if I get stung by a bee, have a asthma attack, eat seafood, or eat peanuts so I require my Sd very much! She also reminds me to take my meds for my brain for personal reasons...she helps me so much and without her I would probably not be here right now

I'm not sure whether it was fake or not but my nan got on a bus and someone got on the bus with a dog with a working please don't touch or distract me jacket on, she sat opposite my nan and the dog went up to her jumping and trying to get attention from her but she tried her best to ignore it and not stroke it or touch it in any way, the woman who handled the dog then started yelling at my nan not to touch the dog even though the dog was the one jumping on her... do you think that it was a fake or not? I'm not sure because surely working dogs have been trained to ignore the public especially if they are working at that time...
@HappyTailsAnimals

+MyLifeOfPets it was fake, a service dog should never jump on anyone and they should not be trying to get attention from other people

Happy Tails Hello! I just now realized that their were video's on KZfaq today...LOL, yeah I'm a little slow. Anyhow, I have Lupus, which has caused 3 strokes...blah, blah, blah & about 50 other problems. To make this quick, I am 100% totally disabled for the rest of my life by SSI. I DO have my medical record that does prove that I suffer from severe Epilepsy. I have Grand Mal seizure's and not to disgust anyone, but if you have one, a person vomits, urinates & defecates on themselves. My 1st Service Dog, Gracie, was trained by someone else when we realized that she is the "Epelipsy Whisperer" -- lol. I disagreed with their tactics of training, but I thought I had no choice. Well, she passed away at 13 from lymphoma and I crumbled & a piece of me died to. I refused to get another Service Dog. I didn't ever want to feel that way again. Finally my husband talked me into it. He was terrified at work that something horrible would happen and when he got home it would be to late. He said he found out that I could train my own service dog. She's now 2-1/2 year's old. She is 100% obedience trained & also obviously my life saver. I have had several seizures in public. I was utterly HUMILIATED!! Because I trained her myself, I have hit road blocks & really bad attitudes even when I am holding a letter from my Neurosurgeon. I did not even try to get her to be my certified Service Dog until she was over 2. (Italian Greyhound's stay puppy's a bit longer than most breeds.) Any how, I won't leave my house w/o her, but I am at my wit's end hitting road blocks. I think that I just got screwed over in getting a "Certified Service Dog" credentials. Please tell me what I should have done. I live in GA and do understand that with the Fair Disability Act that my dog's status as a Service dog supercedes even Federal regulations. Thanks for any insight that you can give me. I don't want to be one of the people who make things harder for others in similar circumstances.

I would like to say that I am so grateful for the service dog videos you have posted. I suffer with fibromyalgia along with many other health conditions and had no idea that a service dog was even a possibility. I'm now looking into getting a service dog to help me get more out of my life. I also would like to say how much I enjoy your videos and I would really like to see a video about how to introduce a new budgie to my 3yr old rescue budgie that has been alone for his whole life. I'm also very envious of your home and all of your pets, you are living my dream. Thanks again so very much xxx

My Grandma could use a Service Dog because last year she fell on the ice taking her small dog Ollie out on a walk. She ended up shattering the ball that connects her shoulder so she can only reach her hand to a little over her belly button, she is also getting older and has arthritis and very bad knee problems where she needs help getting up from sitting, laying or anything like that. Her dog Ollie is a good dog but he is a Cavapoo (King Cavalier and Poodle mix) so he is a small dog. I have trained both my Grandma's and my Sister's dog and I tried to train Ollie so he can help her but he is small so everything I try doesnt help. Like picking things off the ground, he jumps up so he is standing on his hind legs but he is on your knees which doesnt help my Grandma, and she doesnt want another dog, so I can train a bigger dog to help her out even though I dont think she would bring the dog in public and would probably use the dog at home unless she was really have problems, which happens often.

+Mikayla Gamer Gal Service dogs are awesome and it sounds like your grandmother would benefit from having one. But service dogs like any animal are a huge commitment and not for everyone. A lot of people have the option of getting a service dog, but don't because they feel the benefit does not outweigh the life changing aspect of it.

Hello, About a year ago I was in a car accident with my mom. My mom was the one driving. I wasn't to affected by it but it made me super cautious when driving. A few months later I got my license and then a about a month after getting my license I was in another car accident and I was the one driving. Both accidents everyone came out fine. However I am now extremely anxious during car rides. Super jumpy, on edge the entire drive, it starts to get hard to breathe and everything startles me. I get especially upset when I'm the one driving making it dangerous for me to drive. This anxiety only happens when I'm in the car though. So I've given up on driving but biking everywhere isn't easy. This sounds like an ESA would be helpful but I live in a hot state so I can't leave the dog in the car if I go places. Would a service dog for anxiety, a psychiatric service dog be helpful? Or is it not worth it cause it's only the car that causes me such anxiety. Thank you so much for your help!
@HappyTailsAnimals

+Emmaisy I think a service dog would be worth it. Driving is a big part of life and if you are having trouble doing it and a service dog would make it better, I think you would really benefit from it.

If a dog were trained to assist someone with severe anxiety during a panic attack by finding someone to help them/bringing the person their phone so they can call someone for help, is it considered a service dog? Sorry if this question seems dumb, haha.
@donnaobney-gentile5892
@donnaobney-gentile5892 7 жыл бұрын
Meghan Jacobs Not a dumb question at all, if I don't come to after a grand mal seizure, my dog grabs my phone & lays on my chest with it. She also has been trained to not bark unless I am in distress. But, I myself was taught to carry my cell in my hand at all times. All she has to do is bark close enough to my phone to set off a 911 alert.

They can be trained to get help. I got really disoriented at my grandparents Pre-seizure one day. My service dog is a seizure alert dog. She started alerting before I got disorented. once it happened I was sitting at the table and dropped her leash (we just came in from being outside) and I told her Find Papa. Off she went and got him barked then ran to me.

I don't have panic attacks, but in school, my stress and anxiety make me unable to do my work 90% of the time. Because of that, I have at least 8 assignments I haven't done yet because I am afraid that they will judge me for it. I also get really scared and stressed when I walk down the hallways of the school and when I am out and about I see every person as a potential threat to my safety and unconsciously pick up the pace as much as I can. I never raise my hand in class because I am afraid of the attention and when I had a presentation in front of only 5 people, including my teacher, I stuttered so much she couldn't hear what I said. In English class, a man I had never seen before was teaching and I was so scared my entire body was covered in cold sweat and I trembled like crazy. I couldn't even look at him. My stress has also made me incapable of having my period during school times. I have only had 2 this year and my problems are getting bigger by the day. I am also having paranoid thoughts about people when they walk by me. I think that every single one of them is going to stab me to death or something. I don't know what I need. I have a Greyhound at home, but he doesn't help at all even though I love him and cuddle every day.

ive heard of people getting service dogs because they want to feel safe and keep men away from them after they've gone through bad experiences with men is this a thing? would that mean they have anxiety? also you mentioned service dogs for people who have unseen illnesses like mental illnesses, are they used for anxiety like the kind you get when your around a lot of people or when people get too close to you and or touch you and it makes you feel anxious/stressed? also who do I talk to (doctor wise im guessing) about whether or not my illness effects me to the point where it is a disability?
@HappyTailsAnimals
@HappyTailsAnimals 8 жыл бұрын
That sounds like the dog would be a guard dog, although a common misconception, service dogs are NOT guard dogs. Yes a service dog can be used for mental illness. You cannot get a service dog based off of self diagnoses. The disability must be real and for it to be real it must be diagnosed by a doctor.

yes. A Service Dog cannot be separated from the handler. They are trained to snuggled into rather small places and normally will curl up at your feet for the flight. I have flown in small commuter planes that hold only eight people and had not only a Service Dog, but an emotional support cat and the airline accommodated both. just make sure to communicate clearly way in advance so they have plenty time to plan. It's common courtesy.

+Janae Knight you should be looking for an agency not a dog trainer. There are several service dog agencies throughout the country, try Google to find a autism service dog agency. You can see if there is a local therapy dog agency where you live to get your dogs volunteering for therapy. Small dogs are usually not recommend for service dogs. As far as emotional support dogs go, do you want to give the dogs away to those that need emotional support animals?

Thanks for the reply! Do you know if they have the same privileges as service dogs? I don't mean just home guard dogs. Some dogs are trained specifically to protect their owner. These people are in dangerous situations, for example, celebrities, witness protection, etc. I'm asking because I work mainly with women who have escaped an abusive relationship and some of them have personal guard dogs. I'm mainly just curious about where they stand with the law.

They say I can just have it, but then they trick me and say I must buy it from them. Knowing I NEED a service dog. Everyone else easily gets them when they don't really need them . They say they have anxiety....but when you watch them you can tell they really don't need one=/ I have schizoaffective disorder, but I can't get one? Boy wouldn't it be great to have one help me when I'm hallucinating!?!? Everything seems backwards 😕 not spitting shade on anyone but I don't get it. Why is it that someone who really needs it can't get one, and ones that don't really need one can get one? Is there anyone out there that can relate to this feeling?

@HappyTailsAnimals
@HappyTailsAnimals Жыл бұрын
Oh thats easy. You are being lied to. Behavior is extremely important when it comes to service dogs. If there is an issue with the dog's temperament, it disqualifies them for service dog work. Now service dogs will have off days, sometimes mine is just not feeling it. But even then, he is still well behaved and not aggressive. Also a therapist can't recommend a service dog, it has to be a doctor.

Ok well it sounds like you already task trained her yourself. Now you just need to train her for public access. alexis marler yes, that is a question that is too personal. Some people are disabled by a traumatic horrifying event like a shooting or an accident that they probably don't want to relive. Other disabled people just don't want to talk about their medical history with a stranger. Some disabled people are ok with talking about it, but you should default to treating a disabled person the same way you would treat a non-disabled person.

The biggest problem that’s affecting America is that people are abusing calling their Dogs “Service Dogs” because they know that they can’t be questioned about it. These people don’t care about the law or whether or not they are affecting the public view of Service Dogs. Let me ask you this, CAN ANY DOG BE A SERVICE DOG, I know a ESA yes any animal can be from my understanding, but a Service Dog, can any DOG Including all breed, be defined as Service or is there a Standard?

It is up to your friend if your dog can go into their home. If your friend wants the dog to go in or not is up to them because it is a home not a business. There are only a few place a service dog can not go. The kitchen of a restaurant, any place in a hospital that you have to scrub in, and because they are not controlled by the United States rules, the Casinos on Indian reservations. Some churches will give you trouble, but most are fine. Any other place that is open to the public is open to you with a service dog.

Millions of people have anxiety and I feel for you (have family members with Bipolar and severe chronic anxiety disorder), but if you can function at all in any way without the dog then you do not have the right to infringe others rights because you love your dog.
