After my wife passed away, I went on a trip she and I wanted to go on ever since we were kids. We didn't have a lot of money saved up because of medical expenses and the costs of aging in America. The only thing of any real value I owned was my house. Land developers made numerous attempts to buy my property in hopes of needlessly building another skyscraper, but I was damned if I was going to sell the home my wife and I refurbished with our own hands! One day, a worker from the construction site next door vandalized my property and I was so tired of their shenanigans that I physically defended it. I knew this wasn't going to end well. The court didn't look too kindly upon what happened and ordered I be placed into a retirement home. I went home and decided enough was enough. If I couldn't afford a ticket for that trip my wife and I wanted to take, I'd have to make my own transportation. I used my decades of experience as a vendor at a zoo to turn my house into sort of a blimp, held aloft by thousands of balloons. You'd think it would take more balloons to lift a house off its foundation, but you'd be surprised. Long story short, I flew that bad boy all the way to South America. On the way there, an annoying Asian kid stowed away, I got a new dog, saved an endangered species, killed another old guy as well as hundreds of his dogs. My house is currently parked next to a waterfall, but I have no running water or electricity. I had to throw my dog off a cliff because he had a collar that translated his barks into English and he wouldn't stop complaining about how he was hungry. I fear he may have eaten that kid whom I haven't seen in several weeks. Adventure is out there, but it will make you see some shit.

Adventure starts at the end of your comfort zone

Your videos are very inspiring. After watching the 'Stop Dreaming Let's get Going' and 'How to Save Up' videos in Feb I decided to sign up for a trip to visit Toronto over the summer with a group from my University. We had the time of our lives. I enjoyed myself so much that I'm going to Nova Scotia next summer with the same group, and in March I'll be in Paris with another group from my University! Thank you, Sonia!

Adventure is what happens when you face the unexpected and triumph! My favorite thing to do when traveling is to block off some time for "getting lost on purpose" - you always find the most unexpectedly wonderful things that way! But it's also incredibly empowering to solve an unexpected problem and to keep going - to not let it stop you! Adventure is getting out of your norm and experiencing things you couldn't plan if you tried! I just moved to the Netherlands last week, and I'm trying to keep that attitude of going with the flow so that I can adapt and be surprised in the best ways :)

definitely starting a new business!!! I love it. anytime I try something new and there is an element of fear involved and the experience somehow leaves an imprint on my life. however some experiences are also similar to other ones and not entirely new, yet they can still be adventurous such as doing something you already love like eating your favorite meal. Familiar but never gets dull.

I have three kids (10yo, 8yo, 4yo). Sometimes adventure means we walk around my brother's pond through "the freaky woods" and see what animals there are. Sometimes it means we travel from La Huerta, Jalisco, to Chicago, IL (4-hour car ride to Guadalajara, plane from Guadalajara to DFW, customs, 12-hour layover, delay and then plane from DFW to ORD). I also work for a soccer organization, so sometimes adventure means we put on an international game in places we've never had one before. It's all relative, as long as you have a great story to tell and some amazing people with whom to share it. My grandma taught me a poem that ended with "y cuando sea viejito como mi abuelito, tendré en mi mente los lindos recuerdos de mi juventud." To me, making memories = adventure.

My study abroad was my big adventure. I spent 5 months in Spain and did most of my traveling by myself. I didn't only leave my comfort zone but I THRIVED outside my comfort zone!!

My greatest adventure would have to be me stepping out into the world, on my own, for the first time. It just happened to be as I studied abroad in Japan for about a year. I've learned things about myself that I probably couldn't have learned if I hadn't done this. The world is so much bigger than I thought it was, and it only makes me want to go out there and explore it!

Sonia, your tackling of this subject matter is an adventure unto itself. I really like the idea. My life has been all about racking up life experiences, so you definitely have my attention. My experiences have been in travel, trying new things, sports, creative endeavors, bucket list activities, careers, marriages, projects, charities, etc. I say go for it! C.J.

there are 2 adventures that spring to my mind. 1.when on a walk in Genoa, I knew enough Italian to ask for directions, a coffee, and basic directions..got lost on the walk, found some teenagers who were anxious to practice English. 2. My 2 sons and I piled in the car with maps and a small budget. We decided to drive from St Louis to Niagra Falls Canada. We stayed at small Mom and Pop places, bought our food from supermarkets and picnicked..One place had one big bed and an old black and white TV..We were very silly and had a great time. I suggest an idea of where you are headed, some maps, and a budget to follow..the rest is for you to find.

I think you should do a longer film expanding on this point further - it could encourage a lot of people debating on moving abroad or even visiting.

First, let me say I think you're adorable. Second, my definition of an adventure is a journey with a desired ending, but you engage in unexpected to get to your ending. Interesting people, exciting activities, leaving your comfort zone. And that's the hard part: leaving your comfort zone. That's why, I believe it's best to do it with someone who will hold you hand.

I agree, a true adventure is not defined by where you go or what you see.

I quit my (great) job in my homeland in the middle of the economical crisis to be in the land I loved, with the man I love. A few years later, I am having the same happy job than I had back home but in a city I keep discovering and cherishing and I bought a flat and got engaged to the best partner in crime I could have found.

Hey Sonia, I love your videos! Could you make a video about how not to get sick when travelling/what to do when sick? I recently went to Beijing, and caught a terrible cold the day I landed. I didn't have any medication and didn't know how to get some. It was pretty miserable for about two days. :( Your insight would really help avoid such instances in the future.

So far, it has been going to Turkey with 3 other guys from school during Thanksgiving break to visit our Turkish towel manufacturers in Babadag. When we got there, we did not have a translator and did not know the exact address! We went to a university nearby, asked if anyone spoke English. When we found some students, the next day they drove us to the area and we knocked on factory's doors until we found the one. And we found it! Check us out at Pstml.com :)
