Thank you for sharing. I just had a Endoscopy and May have Barrett’s esophagus. I am a female, not obese and have no family history of the disease. I never remember having GERD , unless on can have GERD and not know it. I am perplexed but trusting God to help me through this time in my life. Again, thanks for making the information so understandable.

Same here I had some belching and burping and a dull pain just at my stomach, after the endoscopy results came the doctor put me on Protonix for the next year until my follow up scope. I am white male over 60 and average weight to height ratio. I have taken no drugs before in my life. It's really frustrating. I wish you well Annette1

Me too , watch Dr berg , do intermittent fasting, salmon etc , did you have ant acids ever ? As acid comes up as ruins pH level and that's what operates the valve , so don't take ant acids in first place, I don't smoke not obese , yet gave me omeprazole 30 years so they not worked at all lol

I unfortunately have barrett's esophagus. I've had acid reflux ( Gerd) forever most my life and i also have gastritis and a hiatus hernia as well. I often get foods stuck in my throat and have no idea why. While they was doing an endoscopy my throat went into spasms during the procedure as well. I got sent to another GI specialist in my area and i have to get another endoscopy again and they're going to try and figure out why sometimes food gets caught in my throat because at the time it happens ( and i never know when its going to do it) it actually hurts and I'm unable to swallow anything not even liquids until it stops on itself own and it's quite uncomfortable and i just wanna know why.

I always got heartburn and indigestion after eating a curry or lasagne. Then during lockdown, I sort of had the odd sip or two of spirits during the day, going through a 750 ml bottle of schnapps within a fortnight. I was also a little overweight. I began not getting indigestion nor heartburn. Then all of a sudden I couldn't swallow foods especially red meat. Food got stuck in my throat or windpipe. My gp, who was lovely sent me off to do the barium test, followed by an endoscopy. Low and behold 6 weeks later, found out I had a 6 cm malignant tumour at the bottom of my oesophagus. It ended up getting into my lymph nodes. After chemo/radiotherapy, then surgery I feel okay. Undertaking immunotherapy now once a fortnight to ward off any cancerous cells returning. This thing will be beaten. I have won the first battle.

Why does nobody ever talk about the length of time between GERD, Berrett’s and Esophageal Cancer? People need to know how much time they hace!

I was diagnosed with Barrett's Esophagus and i have Gerd ( acid reflux bad) I've had it for many years and was tried on some many medications and the only one that works for me is nexium. I also have a hiatus hernia and gastrisis as well and I've had the one since early adulthood. I was sent to another GI specialist in my area because sometimes by throat goes into spams and i can't drink, eat or swallow until it stops and they have no idea why and it hurts and it did this to me at my last endoscopy my throat went into spasms while they was doing the endoscopy and my new Gi has ordered another one and which they will be scheduling anyday now to see why this happens to me at home because I'm not over weight at all i never have been and i eat healthy all the time no joke and so they're going to do another endoscopy to see if they can find out why my throat goes into spams because i never know when it's going to happen and it's quite uncomfortable.

Speaking here to the or a specialist on barretts disease and acid reflux ect... you are speaking on a clinical condition I'm speaking as a patient . Giving antacids protons isn't enough you should be putting patients with this condition on a medical diet for this condition as almost everything you eat affects including sugary foods it would be like putting salt on a blister if you eat acidic foods and sugary foods for a dietician to say stay off acidic foods is not very supportive . And it doesn't help their weight and eating to much sugar I even a small amount doesn't help the Co diction either because sugar is acidic . Consultants don't want to recognize this and when you mention this to a hospital or a GP or a dietician they don't want to work out a diet you with this condition I my condition is getting worse because of no help from the NHS of a diet . I am already taking advice and can't have acidic foods and sugary foods and they don't want to know consultant s Dr's GPS should put to a dietician as part of the treatment and not just give protons anti acids that's all you get for treatment such a disgrace from the doctors and GPS and registars .

The biggest problem is they (GPs, specialists) prescribe PPIs, whilst knowing they actually increase acid reflux. I'm now in a situation were I'm being investigated for possible Oesophageal and Tongue cancer since this March. I wouldn't be in this situation if I'd of known that I had low acid made lower by the PPIs.

After an endoscopy I was told that I had a 'grazed' oesophagus . I had initially gone to the doctor because I was having trouble swallowing plus Gerd and OTC meds such as Prilosec did not work and were recommended to take no more than 10 days . After the diagnosis the so called specialist told me to take Prilosec! What a genius! I said they do not work, his answer? Take double dosage . I suggested this was not a cure and got shrugged shoulders. So sick of the indifference of the medical profession . On a similar note, I had the same indifference on my Thyroid issues, 'Normal count' they tell me, "then why do I have all these symptoms" I asked? Again a shrug of the shoulders and a massive medical bill. For nothing. So I got mad and did research. I have resolved my thyroid issues through diet and natural dessicated thyroid I buy online. The oesophagus issues are another story, I took aloe juice which helped but I can feel it is getting worse. I guess my point is that the so called experts would do us all a favor if they listened more to patients, instead of one size fits all diagnosis.
