In this video, I discuss various estimates for Bitcoin's ultimate price target both in nominal and real terms, based on Bitcoin's main use as a store of value asset.
In order to do this, I compare Bitcoin's current market cap to the market caps of common stores of value like bonds, stocks, gold, and real estate.
Conservative estimates get us to $1 million Bitcoin, while more aggressive estimates get us to $8 million to $100 million per Bitcoin and beyond.
Bitcoin remains the best, most asymmetric investment around.

I've never considered the fact that BTC is undervalued partly due to its own inflation. I've always looked at it from a supply and demand perspective. As the supply is cut in half so is the inflation rate. Very interesting point!

Matt, I have recently shifted my sights away from financing cash-flowing land to now just buying Bitcoin. Per your recommendation, I listened to the Saylor / Ammous discussion about financing BTC acquisition, and the implications of your debt/equity ratio going way down as BTC goes up in dollars. I am wondering what your non-financial-advice thoughts are on taking out a BTC-backed loan (non-rehypothecation) to buy more BTC as long as the term is at least four years. Would you consider doing a video on this?

Could you explain this in one of your videos. I have this question come up in my head, we can determine the price of bitcoin through the value of the current dollar. Let's assume there was some sort of reset, for example WW3 breaks out, the monetary system collapses and the WEF creates a new CBDC, which will have an entirely new/different value and supply, how can we determine the "new" price of bitcoin relative to that new currency? The market would determine the value and if it's a superior form of money, Bitcoin will go down but likely it would be inferior, so Bitcoin will go up against it.

What about the heaps of different FIAT currencies alot of big companies hold to be able to fund their global operations. When big companies start putting bitcoin on their balance sheet I think we can expect to see an even higher price then you estimated.

Understanding our current fiat money and financial situation is very important. What is money? Where did money come from? Why do we have it? Do we need it? How is it made? How much exists? Can more money be added? What are the benefits or consequences? What is debt? How much do we have? Why? Can it be repaid? Why does it keep increasing? This hole is deep but critical for everyone to explore - whether you are interested in bitcoin or not. This information should aid in making everyday decisions as well as long term decisions. This info is not required to understand bitcoin but it makes it so much easier/quicker. I have often said that I know many who own bitcoin but do not understand it, however, I do not know anyone who understands it but doesn't own it.

We can also estimate total wealth value with Wealth/GDP. For average capitalist country it is 5-6 now. And world GDP is 96trln, which, again leads us to ~500trln world wealth.

It's strange to think about how the stock market behaves in a Bitcoin standard. My thought is that all stocks would crash in BTC terms for some period of time and then eventually some stocks have some appreciation in BTC terms. I also feel like stock investing would be more straightforward when the entire future supply of money is known.

Stocks will not rise as much under a bitcoin standard because people will use bitcoin as their primary store of value, not equities. And the same goes for real estate, bonds, etc.

I absolutely agree with you. Even during the gold standard, stocks produced profit, and even if you discounted the gold supply growth. Companies are not "dead" assets that do nothing like gold or BTC, they are slices of the economy, addressing people's needs and being rewarded for it. Still, BTC's growth for the next 5-10 years until it reaches at least parity with gold ought to give a much better return.

I like both Bitcoin and gold. However Bitcoin has counterparty risk in the form of a functioning computer network and continued bitcoin mining. Gold in hand does not have such risk. I think both will succeed in a post-fiat reality, but I do not foresee Bitcoin replacing gold. They are both sound money with different purposes. Sell your fiat for Bitcoin, but don't sell your gold to buy Bitcoin.

It would be 90% lower. Only 10% of gold's price is attributable to industrial and jewelry demand. The rest is a monetary premium.

Maybe we'd start making more things out of gold instead of copper, because it doesn't corrode and its a better conductor. That's a reason to want to use Bitcoin instead of gold as the ultimate money... Who knows what we could use it for to improve our quality of life if 90% of it wasn't sitting in a vault somewhere doing nothing.

Bitcoin is a great equalizer. It acts like a balance, helping to minimize all created bubbles from centralized systems(RE, stocks, bonds...). Price fluctutaions of bitcoin doesn't influence ordinary peoples needs. On the other hand, increase in real estate price affects directly, it makes its investors richer, but less affordable for ordinary people, families).

RE: Fine Art as a store of value. We all know there are forgeries that are as good as the originals that experts can't distinguish without microscopic analysis. Therefore, the value placed on art being original and not a copy is just a shared belief system to inject value into scarce object that ignores the utility of the art as a decorative piece. Fine Art is a value-system created, perhaps unconsciously, by the wealthy to store great value in a relatively portable and durable form. (And of course to signal status.) I'm not saying this cynically--I am an art fan who has been to the Louvre etc. It is actually a brilliant system--as long as you know you're getting the real thing. However, for those who don't need to status-signal, BTC is infinitely more practical and should demonetize fine art on the high-end to some degree.

For me, bitcoin is not speculation, it is a retirement nest egg. Accumulate whatever you can, whenever you can, all the while still stay employed and keep paying your bills. Do not go into debt to buy bitcoin. Do not over-buy what you cannot afford to "lose" in valuation terms in the short to medium term.

Mathew, the problem with digital assets is when the power grids are melted by a solar micronova or a major superflare. No electricity, no internet, no access to stored value of digital assets. will we have a warning when the power will get knocked out, at most maybe a few hours, probably less time.

I am not Matthew, but I have run some numbers on this before. I love the idea of this product and would love to support the company. But I think to be worth it, the price needs to be quite a bit lower. Price = $1.2k, Hash = 14Th, Energy = 1.4kW That is $86 per 1Th and 10Th per kW. If you had a little more cash, you could buy an S19 Pro for ~$2.5k on Ebay. Price = $2.5k, Hash = 110Th, Energy = 3.25kW That is $23 per 1Th and 34Th per kW. For both metrics, you will get much more BTC with an old S19 Pro. However, you have to consider the noise, significantly higher heat output, and consider that the number on your electricity bill will be much higher. You can mitigate noise, you can heat a large home with it, and you will get much more BTC for it. But it's more hassle

I don’t think statistics or any form of specific forecasting will achieve what you are hoping for. Not for anything, anymore. Those days are over. I recommend studying the fundamentals of Bitcoin, as this is the most effective reassurance. It is the principles of Bitcoin, that make it so incredible.

matt, can you address what a USD price target actually entails if/when the USD goes hyperinflationary/kaput? i also believe it will be valued in the millions (US$) but the true value or purchasing power of a dollar will be much less in that environment, so an entirely different way of valuing BTC will be needed i believe, like with anything else, early adopters will benefit greatly, but eventually a value equilibrium will be reached (as we had for centuries with everything else [thanks Fed!]); if you could make a video about that, i think it would give people a much different perspective how to see their Sats, rather than just as another trade-in for US$ when they "make it" thanks

In the future, reputable banks will offer overcollateralized fiat loans for Bitcoin for a small service fee. By doing this, the Bitcoin holder would not have to pay capital gains taxes because the asset technically was never sold. If the fee is less than the BTC CAGR in fiat terms, the Bitcoiner and bank can just periodically refinance indefinitely. In this way, Bitcoin will be the ultimate retirement investment mechanism.

Interesting. I read a study from 4 years ago that said it could get to 100 million per coin. Assuming that happened in 2140 that is CAGR of 10% a year from the current price of 100,000 AUD. Index funds should give 7.7% with less risk. Assuming BTC gets to 2140 at that point theoretically everyone has sold out due to the speculation function of BTC being no more. Miners can't make money mining it so the tx fee would have to sky rocket (if everyone has not already sold out, and crashed the market to zero). It will never be used in the real world, and because of that I don't own any. I suppose someone could argue buying index funds on the secondary market also provides no value to anyone but I feel safer with them.

Hey Matt, love your videos! A question that might be worth a deep dive or price oracles. Can they be manipulated? I’ve asked this question many times on Twitter possibly with you before, but never really got an answer as to how the oracles work amongst all the exchanges. Maybe it’s a nothing burger I don’t know just food for thought.

Do you have projected time line to get to that value - or number of events, that will aggravate movement to BC. In my head I have a list - e.g. (1) /countries progressively losing control of their currencies (2) Ultra Rich finding ways to hide a % of their wealth into BC e.g. Protecting it from goverments
