Thank you Brock for directing me to peeks peak I’ll be tuned in.🧬 I’ve been on a reclaimed lumber kick for about two years and I must say the amount of nails I’ve pulled out is mind blowing. Your not the only happy nailer. 😂 keep at it brutha .!!

Official framing books I've read say one nail per 2x2 area. So end nailing a 2x4 takes 2 nails, 2x6 takes 3. Face nailing a 2x4 on another face 2x4 takes 4 nails etc. That's how I see most guys do it and it follows code.

That book shelf framing technique is also a super strong way to board up a door from the inside. If you ever find yourself in a situation like that.

Looks good, our buildings we do, we actually frame 2x6 stud walls in-between the posts and sit them on 6x6 pt sill base, it just gives our pole barns a finished look customers like, but there's a ton of ways to build a pole barn

I thought y0u might be using an awful lot of nails. But I like the building as it comes along. The other thing I like is you don't have to pull permits and have inspections to build something in the country. Here in Michigan the permits are a pain in the butt. You even have to get burn permits to burn anything. And in our township they're only good for 3 days and you have to get another one. And if you don't get the permit and someone calls in a fire because of smoke it costs you $750 finel. Keep it going Brock.

Often people put the rafters up run a chalk line to get all the ends in a straight line then use a speed square to mark the angles and cut them in place.

1 nail every foot AND alternate your gun angle. . . \ / . . . that way , the board can't work loose. 🙂

How many nails are too many? Well, all I can say is that when my uncle tore out his kitchen floor the wood was so rotted it left nearly all the nails sticking out of the subfloor. So he asked me to come over and pull them out. There was no place to put my feet without stepping on a nail. I couldn't kneel or sit until after I pulled out what felt like a hundred nails. It took me an entire day to pull them out and I'm not sure I got them all either. That might have been too many.

If you take a shotgun and blast a board, how much wood integrity is left? Same with too many nails! You take away from the strength of the wood, by splitting the grains with excess nails. My construction experience over years of building homes, shops, remodeling. JMHO!

You do not need this many nails. As lucas said 3-5 is good for this board. Not 15 . And Lucas does it with a lot less equipment that Rockhill...

Except… it destroys the integrity/strength of the wood grain the more you put in. Think of a rope instead of a board. Each time you put a nail in… it cuts the fibers. Same with a board.. to an extent. Especially affects the end of the board more quickly

😂😂😂😂😂 Maybe, BEFORE YOU START TO BUILD SOMETHING, go get direction from those who know. 😂😂😂 The brace from header to post, in your case, is not strong enough at all, because you are transferring the weight, not to the post, but to the nails in the post. Very weak. Your “friend” should have informed you of your error and how to correct it properly. More nails is not the answer. A basic course in framing would answer a lot of your questions and give you necessary knowledge and skill to building such a building. You reminded me of my own mistakes. Whew.

My preference is to make it up as I go along. I don’t want to know the “right way “to do it. Where is the fun in that. Building is completely built off lumber from my Sawmill. I’ll have the entire thing up including the roof and siding for under $500 and it will be still standing there after I’ve left this earth.
