Do you know what deck driving is? Well it's a driver that delivers new and used trucks by bulk. The trucks are stacked on top of each other. This stack of trucks is coming out of Mexico and are picked up by American driver in Laredo T.X. This position is called Deck Driving and the industry name is Drive Away. So what you do is fly or drive to the pickup point and tack them to there destination and then fly or drive your own car back for another stack of trucks. But you might ask yourself how do I drive my own car well you can stack your car on the trucks you are driving. Guys driving a semi combination is not the only thing you can do with your CDL. There are so many different jobs out there you just have to look and ask a lot of questions.

I used to piggy back for att or acs, they pay for everything, hotels, waiting time, taxi's rental cars, lodging, and in my days we were in a union, they were really good for their worker, and at dot guys at the scales are ussually pretty good too, this job is not for everyone, but it keeps you fit, and you see many places across Canada and the US as you travel by plane, rental car, taxi's after you delivered the last truck, downside is you don't have your own truck with your own stuff in it, you're kinda like a backpacker running the newest rigs and sometimes prototype's around North America.

They usually have those jobs online quite a bit.. Most of the time Drive Away jobs are self-employed.. A buddy of mine would drive his pickup a truck to a location and pick up a few rigs, and tow his pickup in the back.. I look into a company a few years back; they would fly you from location to location.

I am really surprised to see that two of the towed units are secured just by clamping via wooden blocks to the chassis rails of the truck in front .... not locked into the fifth wheel and .... NO 'breakaway chains' .... surely bad practice by the shipper?? .... another good video Jorge .... thank you .... Regards from England.
@master6676

The wood blocks are spacers, 4 , 1/2 ubolts secure the saddle to the frame. The same saddles have a 5th wheel pin, it is used if the fit is safe.
@brotherskeeper2598
@brotherskeeper2598 2 жыл бұрын
That clamping device is called a saddle and it's been the industry standard for as long as trucks have been decked and if you think about it it is just as secure as a kingpin which is only held in place by the two little Jaws that close behind it there are no safety breakaway chains on that either. Some companies however do use some safety chains but they don't stop the truck from falling off as that is never an issue. The only common issue is it listening and shifting over to one side. New trucks prevent this by cutting a block of wood that goes against the saddlehead Jaws over to the big u-bolts holding on the spring. The wood has been banded or zip tied or twist wired in place and is a very secure method. If you hadn't already guessed I've been working in this industry for years.

I watched a video a while back. Volvo does the same type of transport from the factory. Their drivers are employed by Volvo. It is a good job. More stuff to check while doing your pre and post trips. As far as you own seals. Check with Peterbilt to see if there are any torque regulations. That might be your issue.

We (driveaway) move every brand of new and used trucks this way when it is practical. Iron Tiger is the company that moves Volvo. Their decking facility is the literaly the Truck gate leaving the North American Volvo facility.

I would get a torque wrench and some gasket sealer put it on both sides of axle gasket pre tighten bolts then use factory torque specs in a crisscross pattern twice on all bolts it should stop leaks.

My Duramax axle deals sre a thin sheet of aluminum, almost like a foil. I used black RTV gasket maker(black is oil resistant) and used a putty knife to the the thinnest coat I could on one side of the gasket than the mating side of the flange(after cleaning it ). Waited 20 minutes. Gasket on with the gasket maker side away from me then slid the axle in. Snugges them, then used the 20v dewalt impact in a start pattern. No leaks. Most people who use gasket maker/sealer get leaks because they use too much and dont let it set up until it develops a skin before assembling the parts. You should be able to touch it without getting it on your finger.

The axles are removed so the drive line won’t move thus the speed sensor won’t read any movement and that won’t increase the mileage in the unit I had to do the PDI for doggett freightliner when they arrived to El Paso

I know you arr trying but dang Dude. You can only tow up to three vehicles. No car behind 4 only 2 or 3. And a hoist is a overhead chain lifting device either manual or electric. The dolly you pointed to is still a dolly just like on your trailer. Bus and single drivers are just that they do get to sleep in used trucks just not new. The driver undecks the trucks and sets them up for the dealer or company. The type of driving is Driveaway.

With two its like a short trailer, with three gets a little more tricky but possible to back a long way or even a 45-90 if you are good. With four trucks you can only go so far until the last truck starts moving one way or the other
