Something I just learned is the dry needling uses different metal needles. They thankfully asked and had to use gold plated ones because I am allergic to nickel which is the main type used. I just always thought they used surgical steel for all needles.

Great informative video! In acupuncture we use various meridian systems! One of these channel systems is called “sinew” or “musculo-tendinous”! These meridians are very broad overlapping sheaths which cover/address the muscles and fascia of the entire body. We address trigger points (which we call “ashi” points) and use a “chiseling” technique akin to your pistoning technique. We also often use e-stim for various meridian systems, sinew or otherwise. Thanks for your informative video and for helping your patients with the power of needles!

I have Whiplash Syndrome. My neck muscles are like concrete most of the time. I can't even lift my neck, turn it, etc. I'm starting dry needling next Wednesday. I hope it works. I have been looking at the ground for a couple of years now. I wanted to start last year but I had other things to take care of. Hernia surgery, blockages, etc. I tried physical therapy, which didn't work. They say my neck muscles are in a constant spasm. They won't release. Now, I'm finally able to get this done!!

@EWphysicaltherapyandwellness
@EWphysicaltherapyandwellness 8 күн бұрын
Thank you for your question. While dry needling is generally safe when performed by a trained professional, there are some risks to consider, such as soreness, bruising, and, in rare cases, nerve injury or infection. It’s essential to ensure that your practitioner is experienced and licensed. If you have any concerns, discussing them with your healthcare provider can provide further reassurance.

I have a stiff neck that cracks and pops and makes all kinds of noise. Can dry needling be done to help stiffness in the neck and shoulders?
@EWphysicaltherapyandwellness
@EWphysicaltherapyandwellness Жыл бұрын
In our experience, cracks and pops in the neck usually come from friction at joints, possibly due to muscle tension, especially in looser body types. Dry needling to the muscles surrounding those joints (upper traps, levator scapulae, suboccipitals in the neck) can relieve tension in those muscles which may relieve the joints. Although it might be a short duration of relief, it might give you a window of time to work on range of motion and strengthening to relieve that constant tension. Always smart to discuss with a medical professional before seeking out dry needling treatment.

@EWphysicaltherapyandwellness
@EWphysicaltherapyandwellness Жыл бұрын
Hello, the direct results of dry needling typically impact muscle tissue only, which in most symptoms with POTS, wouldn't be the best treatment. If there are any secondary symptoms due to POTS (increased muscle tone/tension, decreased neck range of motion etc.) then Dry Needling could be used to help that.

Do you recommend for Bell’s palsy treatment?
@EWphysicaltherapyandwellness
@EWphysicaltherapyandwellness 8 күн бұрын
Thank you for your question. Dry needling is not typically recommended for Bell’s palsy, as this condition involves facial nerves rather than muscles. Treatments for Bell’s palsy usually focus on medications, physical therapy, and sometimes electrical stimulation. It’s best to consult with a healthcare professional to determine the most appropriate treatment for Bell’s palsy.

Hello! Dry needling can be very helpful in reducing muscle tension and improving range-of-motion in the neck, especially a neck that has some structural changes like a bulging disk. I was taught this in Acupuncture school 15 years ago. Meridian therapy is only one modality in the scope of traditional acupuncture. We also do trigger point needling, aka "Dry Needling". PTs seem to deliberately not understand this. I have no problem if qualified and professionally trained PTs do trigger point Acupuncture aka "Dry Needling". But please stop trying to explain our scope of practice in such narrow terms. The reason you do this is to delineate yourself from acupuncture medicine, which is understandable. But stop telling people what we do is ONLY meridian or ENERGY work. It's just not true.

I’ve had both, and while they use the same needle, they were very different experiences. DN was more clinical, just a piece of an overall plan, and targeted an injury. Acupuncture helped me mainly with mental and emotional wellness; the needle placement is very different (and much less painful than dry needling). With DN, the needles were in and out quickly, while the needles in acupuncture stayed in for about 30 minutes (I think - I fell asleep during my sessions). Both have been very beneficial 😊
