What actually happens is all the sensors act VERY SURPRISED and try to duck for the cover of any nearby culpable deniability. Then the intuitive gets 0 credit and made fun of for being "weird" and "intense". It's a curse really.

Seeing Ne as metaphysical awareness makes a lot of sense to me. I've never been able to really grasp the idea, even in myself or in other people though I'm probably a dominant Ne user. I read many descriptions but could never really get a sense of what it really was until this video. I wasn't able to separate Ti from Ne but now that I do, I understand that my Ne is there constantly and it's what predominantly gives input for my cognition and shapes my perception of the world. It explains why even though I've made some great conclusion about something I still wake up the next day with new possible angles of which the things could be seen, leaving me to change my mind about stuff all the f*cking time. It also explains my impatience with people who are not able to pick up stuff from "thin air" from their environment. When absolutely none around you do, it's hard to get along very well, as if they seem to be "missing" something. Thanks for these great explainations. The fact that you're Ne dominant yourself really helps. Keep it up (y) EDIT: Hahahah, when you said that Ne can percieve all possible futures, I intuited that what you'd say next was "which of those possible futures was most likely to occur." Which was correct and what proved that what you're talking about is absolutely true.

I think that your description of Ne really helps explain why infps are seen as super judge by some and super open minded by others. In my own personal experience as an infp i tend to judge people when I first meet them using Fi since it is my hero function. But once I know someone a little better I can use Ne a lot easier and it opens up my mind to that person. I rarely act on my base judgement of someone but nonetheless it seems like infps judge first and open up later. Some people can see our judgmental side right away and some can’t. Plus since most infps tend to put on a mask or act mysterious around others we actually hide our judgment in a lot of cases. This doesn’t speak for all infps and it seems like infps that rely to much on Si will be and act more judgmental.

In my experience, it's dangerous to trust right away. But us infps like to do that sometimes👀 Just tickle the si child for a bit and they can get your attention pretty fast. Ne is so important to keep us safe. We are constantly looking at people's ACTIONS and predicting what may come next, and what may not which can drive us crazy 😅 But sometimes it can too late, and Ne can't really get you out of a situation anymore, simply because you know But can't really do anything about it. Not until you get into your action functions, which can be difficult at times. This is why it's super important to make those quick judgements at first.

@charmainefrost

You just described what happens in my head 24/7; I call it “exploring the branches of the possibility trees” (many trees in the ever-changing possibility forest). Sometimes the new connections, possibilities and possibilities generated by the possibilities....race in so quickly that I have to consciously slow my mind, dampen the flow, just to communicate clearly in a conversation; the mind runs faster than the mouth but, fortunately, Si and Te help with organizing scatter-shot thoughts into coherent language. One mundane comment by someone can spark 15 ideas, ranging from cartoon videos playing in my head to fanciful stories to “visions” of the future....exhilarating, but also a distraction when the conversation or a task requires focus. Yes, the “Cassandra syndrome” is sometimes a problem - knowing what other people desire (more than I know what I desire), thus knowing their probable future behaviors (expanding to group behaviors, then collective/cultural behaviors), but also knowing that few will listen to warnings (also a predictable reaction). Social “manipulation” seems like something that many Ne heros/parents would “instinctively” know how to do - know what others want, how they’re likely to act in a variety of scenarios, then intervening to skew the probable behaviors in a specific direction. I sometimes call that “manipulating timelines”. Many possible timelines emerge out of the present (with many branches (subsidiary timelines) off of each); a change in behavior/status of one participant can cause one timeline to be emphasized over the others, or even add variables that change the patterns entirely (new emergent timelines....return to crystal ball). The butterfly flapping its wings - a seemingly insignificant participant in the network of energies who, by a slight shift, changes the shape/pattern of the network and the interactions between component elements, thus changing the perceived outcome. Cool stuff.....People (sometimes) like the ability to generate a story about anything instantly out of thin air (entertainment value), but otherwise seem baffled by this function. When I talk about how little changes could result in a structural change in the network and facilitate the emergence of new properties (-->innovation, sudden breakthroughs or sudden changes in the usual “system”), or track the evolution of certain beliefs/values out of the past and speculate on diverse ways these could evolve in the future, I get the (expected) eye roll.....but Ne likes to communicate its discoveries (despite the eye rolls), can feel an almost compulsive urge to express itself (despite simultaneously knowing that the optimal social move would be to congratulate that ESTP on his new motorcycle and ask him to talk about how fast it can go, how quickly it can turn corners, have him show off a stunt, etc...)

Is this where the 'You're smart, but you have 'no common sense'" came from with my father? I heard that SO often that I ended up buying a shirt that said, "Common sense is what tells you the world is flat." After all, that's what we see, feel, and extrapolating from what happens to a, say, plate or ball if you put things on the other side, they fall off? Seems to make sense. And is wrong. All these types are needed, possibly in the proportions they exist, I think. (Stuff has to get done, and the present needs to be dealt with, after all.) It'd just be nice to have people to talk to without their eyes glazing over, now and then. Done rambling again.

To play the devils advocate, the world is flat in our daily lives. I mean sure, it's round but for you practically you interact with it as if it were flat. Yeah sure. You can go on a plane and fly halfway around the globe but it still appears as if you are on a flat earth unless you sbstract your perception. And it also appears as if you are one life form when in reality there are 10x more bacteria in your body than you have human cells (which also are life forms. Yet you probably take credit for your comment when it really was a mega team effort by all the life forms that make up you and makes your body able to type to begin with. You're awesome. I'm an INTP and this video was really interesting bc I absolutely am aware that with my ISTJ ex-husband he would allow me to discuss theories and abstractions and would occasionally participate a bit although it was very much one-sided. My mom is ISFJ and is also tolerant of this, whereas most people are completely baffled and annoyed by my mind and my mouth running off in all directions (it's all connected, people!) as well as my tendancy to play devil's advocate and to speculate. (They sure make use of my problem-solving skills though, lol). I often say, "what if...?". I often hear "But that ISN'T the way it is/what's going to happen/etc etc etc". I am forever hijacking conversations about someone's job, spouse, fave sports team, car, garden or fricking curtains and trying to spin it into science or atheism or animal rights. And sigh, they just yank it right back to talking about the fricking weather haha. I like how you articulate how we can make decisions to increase the probability of specific possibilities occuring. It's awesome to be able to see multiple outcomes to a situation and then use Ti to choose and often actualize the preferred one.

I didn't hear this mentioned about Ne. I have parent Ne. I somehow knew that light would have a frequency shift relative to the observer when moving at very fast speeds just like sound has a frequency shift with a passing train (before I ever studied relativity). I seem able to understand poetic metaphors and similes with ease. I easily make connections in my mind where my thoughts will connect to many things such as seeing someone give a cold stare, then thinking of cold weather, then thinking of a blizzard, then thinking of Antarctica, etc. Are these examples of Ne?

It’s interesting how Ne-Si compares to Ni-Se. As an INFJ, I can definitely sense when I lack Ne. It’s when I think too narrowly and goal-focussed, instead of thinking more laterally. A weakness of Ne-Si is clearly being too worldly and stuck in past patterns. Hence ENTP make good rogues, utilising being very aware of how the world works with the help of Ti.

I can really relate to being cut off from my Ne when I'm uncomfortable. It's like, if a stimulus is too intense I just have this sense of blindness. Not physical blindness, but a sense of not knowing what to do or where to go. It's like I'm a sitting duck. And the stimulus that provokes this can be pretty minor...like someone who's given me bad past experiences being within like 20 feet of me.

Right, so my parents were unwilling to buy me any of these and I remember beggining with 1 bracelet a friend gave me. 1 month down the line and I had 40 bracelets having bought none. I was low-key so manipulative and would make statements like oh no one has this, and would bargain 1 for 3 or something. I was so proud of my stack ngl. Id also retrade a bracelet with the same person for much more because they regretted giving it up :'). Good days. Typically very direct and commanding. 5) Creative artist mode - related to 3) but feels more internal If I had to order how often it appears I use the functions, it seems to be Ne, Te, Fi, Si, Ni, Ti, Fe, Se. Combine that with the fact that I feel I'm most stable when I'm constantly moving and doing new things, I may actually be ENFP. Ni moment (INFJ here): I believe the collective consciousness goes back to Si more than to Ne. Si stores all the States that have been. Ne is more concerned with whole System patterns that can emerge from those already existing States. Si helps Ne to create a new Pattern/System. On the other hand, Ni stores all System patterns that have been, with Se becoming more concerned with possible States that can emerge from those existing patterns that Ni knows so well, with Ni helping Se to come up with and actually actualize this single new State of affairs. Or it's the other way around and the collective consciousness is actually conceived by Ni, which I tend to believe more, then the same applies with Ni/Se axis coming up with new Patterns/System, and Si/Ne axis coming up with new States of affairs. Hell, I don't know what this does even mean but it's just hit me like that and liked to share it.

Because it's all about your intense passionate personal desires, it can be used to motivate you to keep pushing and change your own future, and it can be used to find the absolute best option to keep moving forward toward your goal, by focusing on what is most relevant to meeting your goals. It is also good at getting to the central, most important idea behind something, by focusing on that one thing in depth. Like a fire, it burns away the irrelevant, leaving behind only the best and most crutial and important information/option. Ne is about seeing all the things that people could possibly ever want for their futures with their Ni, and manipulating the futures of others by providing them options. It is better at pattern recognition, because it is constantly looking at what patterns the Ni of others may be following. Ne is abstract, and so it is open to all possibilities. No matter how far fetched an idea or no matter how strange of a choice someone might make, Ne considers all of the options others may have, and prepares for them. Like the ocean, it is wide and deep, and it evelopes all.

As a person who has Ni hero and has historically had a little bit of a difficult time understanding Ne this helped me understand it much better. I did want to mention that while Ni does seem to look like a “sniper” from the outside and that is generally the result observed, it actually (in my experience) is more like a shotgun pointed internally allowing you to naturally AVOID all of the wrong paths. It happens pretty automatically and I’m not actively thinking about the less efficient paths I feel like my brain just helps me avoid them, allowing me to simply make my way along the right path. It has to be a path towards my own internal goal or desire though I have a very hard time seeing this externally in other people or the environment. It’s more deductive perception that is self focused (if I had to put a tag on it). It’s also really annoying if it’s not manifested into a goal externally such as the shitty Ni-Ti loop I always wind up in because I hate how peoples problems affect me so much and I avoid social settings (had a traumatic childhood, need to get over myself) Realizing Ne is metaphysics was a game changer for me thank you 🙏

@CS Joseph incredible video finally starting to begin to grasp how all of these fit in within one another. So for me since I'm Ne critic I'm making the conclusion that I'm very critical of other people's futures/the paths that they're currently on. I'm also critical of their ability to recognize patterns that I don't, or critical of their inability to do so when I can't. Could this also translate to why many great ENTJ's in business have never really asked their customers "what do you want" because in their mind they have a difficulty connecting with what their personal experiences (Si) were and therefore just made the decision to instead use their Te Hero to instead ask "What problem do you have or will this fix your problem?

Unfortunately this puts me further in the camp of needing to ignore my Boss in order to get the work done that my Boss wants done. My Boss is his own worst enemy (assuming that he wants the work done, which I am more and more beginning to doubt).

Would you agree that Ne’s ability to see all possibilities is somehow connected to how Si records every single detail in events? And, on the contrary, that Ni is somewhat limited by its always having an «agenda» trying to read the significance of Se’s raw, but nowhere near as extensive as Si’s data? Also, would you agree that while Si-types sort their sensory data into boxes, Se-types don’t, and that this leads to Ni intuitions ultimately being more flexible/abstracted than Ne intuitions? It seems to me that Ne is faster than Ni because it’s working with associations between somewhat organised «boxes» of sensory data, while Ni has to reinterpret the sensory data every time because Se doesn’t sort anything.

Thanks for another video! Definitely relates to feeling/being misunderstood by so many people as an INFP. I know it is super frustrating when you feel wired differently than most of the population and feel forced to conform to someone else's mental wiring or social expectations. I often feel like it is not fair to any of us going through that (or not the statistic as a logical type may express this perhaps). I know that's my subjective experience but it seems like ENTPs (perhaps NP's in general) encounter this conflict.

I told him that she would absolutely marry him if he asked and I could see them being married. I failed to tell him that her desire for him was superficial. Well he asked, they got married and shortly later they divorced. I felt absolutely horrible. I didn't completely learn my lesson because sometimes I don't know how to shut my mouth, but now I add disclaimers with the things I say lol.

CS Joseph, I think you're talking about Introverted Intuition. I have Extroverted Intuition parent but I'm not good at figuring out what people want because I consider many likely possibilities. It's only when I hang out with them long enough and know their personalities that I'm good at figuring what they want. I (INTJ) just had a conversation with my husband (ENFP) that hugely highlighted a difference in our approaches. I thought it might be related to Ni vs. Ne. But he just said that he likes to start things that will make other people think about whatever he wants them to think about -- (he wants to make other people introspect but doesn't want to do it himself?) -- so I'm wondering now if the difference might lie in our respective interaction styles. We were reading a lesson for church tomorrow. At the end, it asked us to think about what we could do to prepare ourselves to appreciate the Savior's teachings in the future. I immediately went to introspection because that's how I internalize ideas. My husband didn't understand what I meant by that. He kept talking about doing service. To him, serving others is how he internalizes experiences and new information. That blew my mind. Not only would it never occur to me, I couldn't even see how it could work. I kept looking at it and considering it and realized that his method is brilliant: service is potentially transformative, so what better way could there be to prepare to learn better? When I think about introspection as a method of transformation, I think of mystics who sit in caves for years in order to reach enlightenment. Those guys have taken themselves out of the world, so they can't make a difference in it. They live only for themselves. Not only do I not want that to be me, it couldn't be because the realizations I have disappear if I don't put them into action. My point is that service probably has more transformative power than introspection. I wonder if a lot of introverts think that extroverts are shallow. Where does the difference in our approaches lie? Ni/Ne? Interaction styles? Something else? Thanks.

Ne predicts the future by looking at the Ni of those around it. Ni CHANGES the future, by choosing what it wants and then pursuing it until it gets it. Ne is able to see what other people want, so it can tell what the future will be based on what other people want. It can also manipulate Ni users into wanting other things. The reason Ni can always trump this manipulation tho, is because it is still the function that changes the future, and Ne can only predict the future because of Ni, so Ne is dependent on Ni. (Like all extraverted functions) However even if you break free of the manipulation of Ne, an Ne user can still manipulate others to try and harm you or alter your future. You will just have to force your will onto the world with your Ni to ensure that thing keep going your way, and never give up on your goal with Ni tenacity.

That's pretty cool, it's like a giant chasing game, and the Ne user is trying to catch the Ni user by creating (metaphysical) obstacles around it for the Ni user to break through. It's completely different with Si where that just sits and endures what's coming to it.

This is why Disney Princess Ariel from The Little Mermaid is an ENFP and not an ESFP. Princess Ariel was willing to make the deal with Ursula where she trades her voice for legs for 72 hours and if she is not kissed by true love is forced to become this little horrifying creature who stays under Ursula's control forever or if she is kissed by true love is able to keep her legs and feet and gets her voice back. Princess Ariel was able to see into the future where she would find true love with Prince Eric and be kissed by his love for her and get her voice back and be able to have legs and feet forever. Princess Ariel obviously has high extroverted intuition to see into the future and imagine a future with Prince Eric falling in love kissing her and being able to keep her legs and feet. She is not afraid of wanting the wrong thing like an ESFP because she looks into her future and all the possibilities.

I came back to this years later now that I realized Ne users get long term consequences not short term consequences. There for both Se and Ne understand consequences but not in the same way. This explains how some Se users justify not reading or planning which both carry long term benefits, meaning there is no immediate consequences versus an Ne user justifying their own inaction or inability to catch opportunities when making life changing decisions in the moment for example healthy eating or job hunting. But correct me if I'm wrong.
