Drifting is cool as an activity, but I don't like it as a spectator. I tend to not like things that require a judge to decide a winner. Judges are human and are biased and make mistakes. I'm surprised Rally is not as widely watched in the states. Drifting takes aspects of rally in terms of car control. So rally is drifting used to maximize speed on a trail. Winner is the one that gets to the end of the trail the fastest, no judges. Rally is awesome.
@IshoGT6 жыл бұрын
I agree with the judging aspect. Though untill there is a way to implement advanced technology which could replace the judges, there is no other option. They are trying a relatively new system in Japan which is called the DOSS system. It uses sensors to determine the cars movements and see if they hit the right amount of angle, line and proximity. Its a smart system but it has shown many flaws with its results.

DC 4Life give it 20 or so years. Won't see much change for a while. I'm still waiting for extremely high speed drifting. That's probably the future since it's going to take even more precision to do it right. Basically minimal corners but enough that you'll have to turn.

Hopefully less power not more, these cars with 1000hp+ and heaps of grip don't drift any better then cars with half of that, more and more competitions are limiting which tyre's you can run and it's made them better.

Somehow modern drifting (Formula Drift, etc.) seems quite different from "Keiichi Tsuchiya's Drift Bible" stuff IMO...
@4by1007 жыл бұрын
The cars have become much more specifically and highly tuned since then. Steering angle, power, grip, etc. has significantly improved since the old school days. The criteria for a "good drift" has also changed a lot with those technological changes. I myself prefer the older drift bible style of drifting, but enjoy the competition that this higher tier of drifting has brought.

Kudos to you Gears and Gasoline for making a well-produced video that explains the format and criteria involved in Formula Drift. You guys did a great job of putting together great cinematography with a well-thought explanation of how the sport works and the criteria/rules behind it. I was at FD Atlanta this year and I wish FD would play this on the screens as a guide for newcomers as the FD events seem to attract more and more people every year.

If I'm watching drifting, D1 Street Legal is where its at. Each car has character and style, the setups are different and it's all in the driver to show how well they can drift anything.

I just dont get it. I get drifting, I just don't get how you make it competitive. I mean, I get how they do, it just doesn't make any sense to me. Well, I was about to make a point that it would be like making sketching or painting competitive, but then it occurred to me that we already have figure skating as an olympic "sport", so I guess there's precedence. Never mind, I get formula drift now, but it just doesn't sit right with me.

Well, in Formula Drift it is a based-on style, although if you are into speed, then, there is SOME drift events where speed is the judge of the winning. I don't know what is, but mostly it's Touge racing. Outside Touge, it's usually a lead-and-sustain drift race. Rally is also basically drifting but on dirt and at much faster pace with smaller roads.
