@@gilbertperez3755 Do you really think Heaven is limited by space? That God is limited by anything? Do you really think we will be crowded in Heaven? How big do you think Heaven is? As big as the universe? I'm pretty sure our current universe can store all living things from past, present and probably the future without much problem. The universe is big and living things are small and few. Do you think Heaven is smaller than our universe? That God would create something and then make the ultimate version worse?

I'm crying watching this. In prayer God told me so many of these things and I was mocked and derided by my family for these ideas (we're Catholic even), but I knew in my heart it was God. I did not know about Franciscan theology, but it seems like a perfect fit for our very personal and available God. Thank you.

I went to seminary, but I learn more by watching this man's videos. I am considering becoming a Catholic. I grew up in a conservative Christian environment. After being the military and meeting people from all walks of life, I am no longer conservative but a Christian, who loves Jesus Christ. I love how Catholics believe in science. How does one become a Catholic?

Some science like biology and physics help us understand *how* God created all of creation. But one must be careful in what you believe when it comes t. science. Most are mere theories and lead away from the faith. The way i did it was i was gnostic raised lutheran. Had an experience so i started researching and then went to mass. After mass i was just staring around at everything and someone asked me if i needed help and i said yeah i want to convert. Couple more weeks until my confirmation

A Cyr, before you cross the Tiber, I would suggest to you that Protestantism is a wider and deeper pool than your upbringing and experience might have lead you to believe. There are many pastors and theologians who are not in communion with Rome (or Constantinople), who believe the science of evolution and an old Earth are compatible with Christian beliefs while also upholding the Bible as the sole god-breathed authority for the church. If you are drawn to Roman Catholic liturgical worship, the Anglican and Lutheran traditions have similar practices. Eucharist in the Episcopal church is essentially Mass with some variations, including kneeling for the Lord's Supper, which is a practice Rome abandoned. Good luck, brother- Jacob

Hello Fr. Casey! Great video, I didn't know that about Franciscans. I have learned about the simple way of life by living the Gospel as St. Francis did (which is not as simple as it sounds, very challenging at times)but, I guess that is why we have different charisms in the church, we all can identify ourselves with one according to our personalities, not everyone can be a Jesuit and not all can be Franciscans. Happy St. Francis Feast day in advance! BTW, I did listen the entire podcast about Arrest and Development (didn't have a clue what you guys where talking about but, it sounded fun, now I'm curious to watch it). It reminded me of the long conversations with my best friend, we laughed so much and no one knows why we are laughing...

Thank you Father Casey for your concise outline and teaching of Fransican Theology! I am currently studying Bonaventure and Aquinas at St. Joseph's seminary Dunwoodie and am left truly inspired! I recall that famous meeting so many years ago when a junior professor at the University Of Paris St. Thomas Aquinas, asked a senior professor St. Bonaventure where he acquired his learning. Bonaventure then pointed to a crucifix and said, " Whoever gazes upon Christ crucified with Faith, Hope, and Love will celebrate the passion with Him". I recall another heartfelt encounter .... Aquinas, before the cross of Christ, praying before God many years later and the Lord saying to Thomas. "You have written well of me Thomas, what would you desire as a reward? At this, Thomas broke into tears as he replied, nothing Lord, I'm doing it all for you!" After pondering these two experiences of Bonaventure and Aquinas I am left with this question. "Is Franciscan Theology that exclusive to Dominican spirituality or are they more complimentary?" When we consider that God is both love and the ultimate truth, it becomes apparent that these two perspectives can enrich each other. The personal experience of love and union with God can be deepened and enriched through intellectual exploration and understanding. Likewise, intellectual assent and reason can be illuminated and given practical application through the transformative power of love. Rather than viewing these perspectives as mutually exclusive, it can be fruitful to explore their complementary aspects. By integrating the personal experience of love with intellectual assent and reason, we can cultivate a more holistic and comprehensive understanding of God and grow in our relationship with Him. Both perspectives have the potential to deepen our faith and lead us towards the perfection of love in God. I believe St. Thomas Aquinas with the spiritual direction of St. Bonaventure accomplished exactly that! Before listening to you explain the distinctions of Fransiscan Theology, I was not aware of an important revelation in the friendship between Bonaventure and Aquinas. We do know that both priests met and conversed extensively at the University of Paris. We do not know the extent of that connection. I believe their spiritual, indeed their connection as brothers was deeper then we may realize! When the younger Aquinas was learning from the older Bonaventure as he pointed to the cross and told Aquinas , "Whoever gazes upon the cross of Christ with faith, hope, and love will celebrate the passion with Him." Thomas broke out into tears because he understood the words of Bonaventure! Aquinas wrote extensively about the theological virtues of faith , hope and love. I believe he was listening ever intently to Bonaventure. Thomas was an eager ntense listener. listening to Bonaventure I believe was partly responsible for Aquinas later in life manifesting the very lesson Bonaventure was trying to teach him! They were both bonded sacramentally through Holy Orders in ways beyond human comprehension.

I am not a volunteerist, but I can absolutely agree with the rest of this. I do believe each of these paths holds a piece of understanding God's nature and this is simply because God is God and we are His creatures attempting to understand Him and we can only do so imperfectly and apparent contradictions, might just be our lack of ability to comprehend for one reason or another. Look at how the relationship with nature and the supernatural has changed, with increased scope we no longer believe illness is a curse directly or that wolves are evil just because they oppose our efforts to raise livestock. And more of late, the illusion of science being contraindicated by religion has largely fallen away on our side of the debate. And we continue to be open to growth while still holding to our Tradition, Scripture and the Magisterium and intellectual tradition of the Church. Be under no illusions, we have a long arduous fight for souls on our hands, but God is at work knitting things together in ways we can hardly even grasp. God bless you dear reader. And may we may love others and each other, as God loves us. Through Jesus Christ, Our Lord and Savior, now and Forever! Amen. Blessed Virgin Mary Mother of God, pray for us. St.Joseph, Guardian of the Holy Family, pray for us.

Thank you so much for this video! I am a professed Secular Franciscan and have been downheartened lately as the fraternity that I am in is more liberal in belief and I am more conservative. I started to feel like maybe I do not fit in with the Franciscan beliefs. I love Francis for his simplicity, love of the Church, seeing Christ in others, and joy of the Gospel. I see a lot of what appears to be garden statue loving Franciscans. Francis had the heart of a knight and that is the Francis who I feel called to follow to lead me closer to Christ. Thank you for letting me know that there is no set school of Franciscsnism and that it is alright to be who I am in my Franciscsn calling.

I agree with your concerns about the liberal fraternity. It seems many to most have lost something in the founder - St Francis and become more worldly. Many of the Seculars don't pray their Christian Prayer regularly or continue reading about St Francis/St Clare - they do it once when they are new and then put it aside. Where is the penitential life? I haven't seen it for years. The question is, how do we bring it back?? - without being looked upon as old fashioned fuddy duddies.

Really great videos - I’ve always wondered about St Francis and the Franciscan order. I feel like it’s important to mention that First Nations peoples have similar concepts of equality and unity with all of creation. The tree and the ant, neither is more important than the other. They see nature as their kin. Which is why I have been interested in at Franciscan’s because in some other Christian religions there is an isolation process that occurs where we don’t always extend kindness and compassion outside of people. (A good example of this is a church that wishes to expand and by doing so destroys the fragile habitat of an endangered bird.) Yet i see the crux amidst all of this is to live as Jesus lived. Of all the things that keep us separate, the ability to grow closer to God through union with him directly (my definition of theosis) was in my opinion the major thing keeping us apart! If we cannot agree that salvation is union with God how could we move forward? I pray that your video here reaches many ears to hear this great news!
@kylepfeifer6576

Pretty much all of our Doctors speak of union with God. Particularly the Carmelites, St Catherine, St Bonaventure. But even St Thomas mentions it. The only reason it seems he doesn't emphasize it, is because his greatest contribution is approaching the Preambula Fidei (demonstrating the reasonableness of God's existence, the moral law, and the necessity of Divine Revelation etc.) through reason alone. I.e, without appealing from data we get from Revelation. But of course at the beginning of the Summa, he makes it clear; this kind of Theology is only the *beginning*. We should ultimately go beyond mere thinking about "data" in theology, to true intimacy with God.

I was baptized in a Franciscan Parish. Guess that means I'm a Franciscan! Now it makes sense why my Catholic spiritual life is the way it is!

As a Roman Catholic who has spent many years studying with and practicing with the Sufis (Islamic Mystics), I cannot help but see that both traditions share the same basic approach to spirituality. For the Sufis, the Light of God (Nur al-Muhammed) is the divine logos by which all things were created. And it is through the interior presence (Batin) of this Light of God that Man God's highest creation, can come to know God with the aim of achieving deification (Haqiqat). Since the Light of God is present in the created world, it behooved man to recognize this light in the creation and treat creation as the domicile of the Lord. This is especially true for other people regardless of race or religion, animals, and other creatures of God. I am reminded of a famous passage in the Holy Quran that says, "God is nearer to you than your jugular vein." God Bless.

Whilst Dominicans dwell on the idea of God through reasoning, Franciscans introduce God as someone who's personal and intimate.

I have been trying to figure out if laymen attach themselves to these schools or only those who live as a religious as a profession. Like do average, normal, secularly working catholic laymen attach themselves to Franciscans, or Jesuits, etc.

I remember when I was a teenager, our white budgie, Annabelle, had died during the night. When I said I hope to see her in Heaven, my devout mom insisted that animals don't have souls so they don't go to Heaven. I went to my room and wept. I've always felt that any creature capable of affection and joy has a soul. I just can't help this. Budgies are but one example of God's beautiful creation, with all of His infinite and tender love behind it.

I have a new friend, he is in hospice. He is a Franciscan. I don't understand it fully. I probably never will. But he is happy to see God soon. But, for me death from this life is scary, what if I am wrong! I promised him I will talk with him until he is gone from this world, we probably look at God differently in some aspects. I also promised him I will look up what Franciscan is. I'm gonna watch this video a few more times throughout the day and digest it. It is the least I can do for my dying friend.

I am NOT however saying theology is not necessary ..... it is....but I am just saying you cannot reduce God to something like a book and wonder why you never have a spiritual experience...

There can be such a confusion among the un-Churched in worshipping the created rather than the Creator. That the natural world around us displays the power and beauty of our Lord seems quite appropriate and I am grateful for it. How though can I help those who have fallen into things like wicca and paganism in sharing this wonderment without enforcing the pagan or animistic beliefs.
