You forget to mention the Assyrian Empire , it was the Assyrians who build the city of Arbil and this place was an Assyrian fortress . Arbil was the second capital city of the Assyrians after Nineveh . The name Erbil is the modern name derived from the name of Erba Elo which is the original Assyrian name of the city and it means Four Gods .

We stayed at the La Roche Hotel in the Christian Quarter. That way we knew we could get a beer 🍺

@@TheDreamWorldExplorer oh good thinking. I stayed in Rasty district. I had a liquor store about a 20 minute walk away, and a load of shops nearby that sold non alcoholic beer. Ha ha. But yeah, it's a lot easier to get drink in Ankawa
