Unlike a lot of other studios Larian has earned our trust. They will keep it until they abuse it. I hope that they keep it for a long long time.

Great investigative reporting and analysis! I think everyone will be watching to see how this new title performs in comparison to Cyberpunk. I feel like the final product (Cyberpunk as it is today, not on release) is fantastic, but when you hear about new systems, etc. there is always the question about how bumpy the path might be. I think producing a sci-fi narrative is where there is more risk. With BG3, I feel like the narrative utilizes many different genres and writing styles (e.g., Showheart > Yungian psychodynamic, Karlach > existentialist, Astarian > gothic dark romance, Gale > traditional high fantasy, Withers > Shakespearean). Because you get to select your companions, you basically get to decide for yourself what genre of fantasy you're going to sample. But most science fiction tends to be organized through a more restrictive lens with a limited set of critical novel concepts. For example, Star Wars is about a great war (analogous to WWII) in space. It adds a major novel concept, the force, that serves as the primary organizing concept for the entire story (e.g., can just anyone use the force? > Luke, what's it like not to a force user? > Han, can women use the force? > Leia, and is there a dark side to the force? > Darth, etc.). Star Wars might have robots, but the stories aren't about the robots. Although the franchise has tried to branch out into more genres, most are just variations on the war movie genre (like James Bond) or on a traditional Western, but with the force. I would say this for me is what makes BG3 more replayable and fun than Cyberpunk, b/c with Cyberpunk if you aren't into dystopian existentialism and nihlism, that's like 90% of what they've got.

Right now I'll follow Larian wherever they want to go, they've earned that much faith from me. I'd love it if that were a big space opera sort of thing. That's the one I would like to see as the huge, later down the line game they are working on, personally, as that's easily the sort of thing that can be very large, with multiple worlds and all that. I'd also love to see them put a spin on fantasy, maybe do some modern magic sort of thing. Harry Potter is fine and all, but modern magic for adults would be really awesome to see in an RPG.

Whatever they do next, I'll be eagerly looking forward to it.

I would love Larian to make a smaller game, maybe even doing KOTOR 3, but I will always be excited for an original IP I personally think they will pursue in order - Sci-Fi smaller scale New IP - DO3 - If tech aligns their Massive project

I hope whatever they do has some elements of cosmic horror, or some lovecraftian type stuff.

It's a Traveller TTRPG. Last game from this game set is Megatraveller 1+2 from 1991ish. Played both into the ground and waiting for another Traveller crpg for 30 years now.😢

I would love Larian to do an Urban Fantasy game with that I mean our world as a setting but with a twist. Say like Vampire the masqurade games,our world but with vampires and other creatures and magic in it. Or something like the Secret World mmo our world mixed with various myths and historical connection. That game using both insperation from Lovecraft,Dracula,Native American myths,Norse,Egyptian Myths and history blended with modern pop culture. Or something like Disco Elysium our world but somewhat alternate history/steam punky and narrative heavy but with Larians type of rpg gameplay. If anyone could do an urban fantasy game it's Larian. New ip of their own or based on existing ones? Atleast it would be something different then the more typical high fantasy with elves,dwarves orcs and dragons etc

7:10 True, but that doesn't mean that the game is not related to their Divinity IP. Could be something that takes place in a different time (like Divinity: Dragon Commander) or is different in other ways (like Divinity 2: Ego Draconis).

im not the biggest sci fi fan when it comes to videogames, i remember loving sci fi sorta games from old times, however when it comes to later references im just not interested, i really hope i can love next game just like i did all that they've done so far

Jeah im pretty sure that at least one of the new mentioned projects will be Scifi. What im more curious about, is if they enter a new genre like Scifi, will they stay with turn based combat or will they try something new? I like turn based games but a more action focused gameplay could interest more people, although it would probably be at a cost of depth.

I would love a sci-fi party based RPG with many of the same voice actors as they assembled for BG3. That could be amazing.

I am really hoping for a good Sci-fi IP from Larian. Space is big though, so a new IP is going to have a lot of work. There are no Space IPs that I think would b good for Larian though. Jokingly I have suggested a co-lab with Factorio, and I do think that that might breath new life and adventure into both studios. But I am expecting one of the 2 new projects to be a lot smaller. Something that they can knock out in a reasonable time frame to keep the money coming in, and the hype level up.

No idea what it is but I do agree I think their next game is sci-fi. Makes a lot of sense in that it’s one of his favorite types of entertainment and it gives them a creative break from fantasy. The 2nd game I agree as well, I think they go back to fantasy and try the ultimate game. Then maybe the last game they make under him will be DoS3. I mean no idea how long he goes but that’s probably a good 10 years down the road. Either way I am here for all them and thankful I live in a time where I get to enjoy their creations.

They could make something in a cyberpunk universe , in the style of shadowrun dragonfall. I was excited about the game from CDPR before they dropped the ball, badly.

The Ps6 will roughly have the power of todays midrange Desktop PC´s . Around the level of a 4060-4070. So they could very well Start developing in right now in the hopes of it being reallistic for a ps6 in around 5 years.

Im pretty sure that Larian doesnt have a problem with the DnD setting, its propably the nightmare to work with Wizard of the coast who is notoriously toxic when it comes to business. The fact, that they just took ownership of the characters that Larian created is just absolutely disturbing. I couldnt work with greedy and overreaching greedy businessmen who couldnt care less about the actual playerbase.

honestly, those two projects have me very interested already, they certainly won a lot of interest with their games so far! but i would prefer to see new and originals rather than having any other franchises/ip's as i am VERY burnt out of every known(to me) sci-fi and fantasy - star wars, trek, warhammer, ass effect and so many others are just utterly ruined for me to the point i won't be spending a dime on any of them and i think larian deserves a big win

I don't know about you, but I hope one day they revisit RTS. I loved Dragon Commander even if it was gutted in favor of their other games. The Strategy Portion could've been better, though.

They already denied a _Divinity_ so it must be something else, they also don't want to do a BG3-clone. I could imagine they sneakily bought up some old CRPG IP nobody uses anymore, like the glorious steampunk gem _Arcanum_ or if they are feeling futuristic the _Shadowrun_ franchise. Both are close enough mechanically to reuse the BG3 engine but far away from the fantasy to not bore the developers.

Unpopular opinion: DOS games are mediocre at best, with badly written story, dialogue and setting, that get compensated for with extremely enjoyable gameplay and humor. I’ve played DOS1&2 plus one more of their games, and i cannot recall a single name, event or location from any of them. I think Larian up their writing game by orders of magnitude with BG3 and i love them for it, but i still cannot bring myself to get excited for another DOS game.

It's going to be another woke agenda made as a game, just like Baldur's Gate 3.
