In this video I take a look at MALBEC
Malbec is a purple grape variety used in making red wine. The grapes tend to have an inky dark color and robust tannins, and are known as one of the six grapes allowed in the blend of red Bordeaux wine. In France, plantations of Malbec are now found primarily in Cahors in South West France, though the grape is grown worldwide. It is increasingly celebrated as an Argentine varietal.
The grape became less popular in Bordeaux after 1956 when frost killed off 75% of the crop.
The Malbec grape is a thick-skinned grape and needs more sun and heat than either Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot to mature. It ripens mid-season and can bring very deep color, ample tannin, and a particular plum-like flavor component which adds complexity to claret blends.

You forgot to mention most importantly; Deep dark wines, such as Malbec, are loaded in wonderful resveratrol. In fact, Malbecs have the most resveratrol of all wines. Long life to you!

Following on from the grape explorer's information relating to the history of the malbec grape, I thought some readers may be interested in learning how the grape variety made it's way to Argentina. The early part of the 20th century saw a lot of Italians moving to various French Wine growing areas in search of employment due to harsh unemployment conditions in Italy. Some found jobs in the malbec growing areas and, over time, some made the decision to emigrate to South America, particularly to Argentina. Some of the Italian immigrants took cuttings of the malbec vines with them and over a period of subsequent years; the planted vines were discovered to thrive in the higher altitudes of Mendoza and similar terrains. The malbec grape, being thick skinned, adapted well to the high altitude cool night temperatures and the hot sunny daytime temperatures producing a quality of wine which was much superior to the French alternative produced from vines planted at much lower altitudes. The success of the Argentine malbec has sealed the reputation of the grape variety as a stand-alone classic rather than a grape producing wine for blending purposes.

Great video and a cool name for a channel m8. So, I am at our little country store here in S.W. Michigan, (beer country btw) looking for a Merlot when I saw this exact same bottle (which was $10.99) and am looking forward to trying it later. I am not a huge wine guy (even though I make my own (100% grape juice, yeast and sugar) and I had never heard of Malbec grapes/wine before. I came home, YT'd it and this video popped up, coincidently, from the same company/winery.

Alright, I have now opened it and tasted it, I wish I could return it, not a fan, so dry it's bitter. No smooth notes detected here and the after taste between sips, is not anything to write home about. I know this bottle is not old, it doesn't sit in direct sunlight, the girl at the store said, "Oh that's my favorite"..YUCK.

I have to admit I don't like wine, but I drink dark red wines because they are supposed to be good for you and I have personally noticed that my longest living relatives so far have been red wine drinkers. Malbec is okay as far as drinkability. Not too repulsive for me to drink it on a regular basis and it is a very dark red wine.
