What is original jurisdiction? This video introduces original jurisdiction and compares it with appellate jurisdiction. The video also provides an example of when the Supreme Court of the United States might have original jurisdiction.

The current SCOTUS has a major ethics problem and the court needs to be expanded with term limits.

Very good graphics which is helpful. I will use for my students. Only issue is whether a car accident is a good example of a case filed in U.S. District Court - how does a federal court have jurisdiction over a car accident? maybe there is a federal statute, but that seems unlikely. I will show this to my students, but with all due respect, tell them that a better example for filing a case in U.S. District Court would be a claim related to federal law or the U.S. Constitution, and car accidents are adjudicated in state courts, not federal courts.

The case would have to be based on federal diversity jurisdiction.

Two very fundamental issues emanate from the existence of "original jurisdiction re SCOTUS and cases between States re Presidential elections 2020": (1) Such cases rely on merit of the principle that the plaintiff state need only present sufficient basis to show self-breach of substantive law of the defending state/s . This does not require a pile of evidence, and (2) The US Supreme Court, itself, in this unique and special circumstances if it is not careful in delivering a very just ( along the best rules of Natural Justice) judgement in the intent of Texas, it may very well be the last time those judges may ever be privileged to perform at the SCOTUS with such esteemed and critically powerful level as judges of the supreme court. If the judgement favors the party that will pack the Supreme court (God forbid) after the judgement, those very judges may as well also pack up and exit the scene and perhaps forget that they ever entered the "now-once" very noble profession, for the Dems will forever destroy the common notion of jusrisprudence at the highest level of the USA. Beware, justices, how you exercise your "power of choice" at this most critical juncture in the history of the free world! If the present configuration is allowed to be altered by the potential packing by the dems, it will most verily herald the end of the end of the hope of a fair and just remedy, in protection of the most fundamental human right. It will be a forever free fall down the precipice of a just humanity. I beseech you to allow the divine hand to guide you, as trustees of law, in this, the darkest moment in legal human history. "Lead kindly, Oh light"
