Hello Rick and Lori in our 2020 RedHawk Jayco we get about 11 gal. On flat road. No towing. We don’t overload. We don’t fill our water tanks and we don’t buy groceries ahead of time. So we actually do good on flat road mileage. But when we go to the high Sierra’s we get about 8 gal. That’s with fully loaded with groceries. There is only three of us in the RV. But here in California gas is at an all time high. It’s around 4.99 a gal. 😩❤️😎

Ouch that price is painful. Glad you mentioned getting groceries once you are at the campsite, that is something to consider. We try not to put water in our tanks on short trips but with 5 of us we go thru water quick on lon trips with flushing and washing hands. Hope you are doing well and great to hear from you.

We have a 2021 Redhawk 26XD with the V8. Our best mpg was 9.5 on flat smooth interstate in Mississippi and Louisiana. The worst was in North Dakota with strong crosswinds (20 gust to 30) at 7.54. Overall average since we got the RV (Oct 2020) is 8.71. This is with two adults and two medium dogs. We did not start dolly towing our 2021 Cherokee until March this year and it did not really change our overall mpg. Our best and worst mpg was towing the Cherokee.

Hi David, thanks for watching and for the information. How do you like the V8? I have heard great things and I wish we had it. The winds will kill the gas mileage for sure. Safe travels.and thanks again for watching.

@@herewegoagaincamping we like the V8 works for us. We had the V10 back in 2000 on a crew cab truck. We could only get 7.5 towing 31 ft 5th wheel.

Has anybody tried a geer venders underdrive on a class C. It gives 1/2 gears and an extra overdrive in addition to those built into the motor home?

We have a 2018 Jayco 29S with 6.8 V10. We do not tow but weighs near 18,000 pounds. We bought with 4500 miles and now have almost 7000. So far got between 6.55 to 7.82 mpg. Best mileage is while driving 70+ mph. Worst was at 60 mph. I am putting a 5 Star tune in it today that was in our 2014 Thor. It got 8.5 driving 75mph and 7.25 driving 80+ mph. Hopefully, the extra power will get higher mileage. I wanted a baseline of mileage before I did the tune. If you would like to know what happens to mileage, please comment back and I will update when I find out. Just finished 170 miles doing 55-60 with lots of hills and several small towns with slow speeds. The RV got 6.55 before tune and 7.83 after. That is 19.55% increase. Well worth the money to me.

@@herewegoagaincamping I told Endless RVing a few months ago. This might help and you can get a $50 discount. Make sure to read the comments. Also, Jayco does not move the OBD port for easy access. Best wishes, Kevin kzfaq.info/get/bejne/msdxosSVmL65dmQ.html

I enjoyed your interesting post guys. I am purchasing a slightly smaller motorhome than yours. I had initially leaned toward the Mercedes diesels (and I still really like them). Their mileage numbers sound better than gas - but everything on the Mercedes engine/chassis just has almost no useful CCC (most are like 900# and we WILL be taking some water and quite a bit of stuff on our routes). For me, after researching everything the deciding factor came down to having payload and really nice furnishings (in that order). So I've chosen a highly equipped model with the (new V-8) gas Ford and we'll hope for the best.

Hi Jeff, thanks for watching. I have heard nothing but great things from the V8. I actually spoke to someone with a 31F with the V8 and his gas mileage was on average 5 to 7 miles better than ours. I hate having to pay the price of gas now but I want the memories with my family and in my mind those memories are worth it. Good luck with the purchase and I hope nothing but safe travels for you.

Most of these V10 450s are 55 gal full. Assuming you use/fill at 50 gals and the current $4.79 per gallon price... then you're going 440 miles a tank and that tank costs you about $240 dollars... all round numbers. So, driving from Atlanta to Portland at 3,000 miles (one way) would cost you about $1900. Double that to come home, and then add $250 for each 400 mile side trip you wanna take along the way. Tow a Yaris! ;)

Thanks for watching and it isn't easy but we are very selective on our stops for fuel. Try to keep notes on big rig friendly stations. Patience is key for us on stops as we on occasion sit and wait for the gas pump on the ends.
