I thought the way to actually wound him was to believe it was possible? I.e. in the miniseries, eddie sprays his inhaler at It, saying that it was battery acid (when it was really a placebo of water and cough meds) and in the current movie, the boltgun that Bill shoots at It is actually empty. But he doesn't know that, so he fully believes its loaded and thus It reacts as though it was.

Very good summary! Just one point to weigh in on. As far as IT's weakness, it's not totally accurate to say that they are determined by it's current form. The key is belief, and that in IT's case (because of it's metaphysical nature), powerful belief can be turned into a weapon against it. When he shapechanged into the werewolf, the kids were unified in their belief that a silver round would hurt it, and so it did. Focused, weaponized belief. It didn't have to be in the form of a weapon. Richie basically....did one of his impressions at the monster and believed with all his might that it would ward off/hurt the creature. And so it did. Even to the point of causing wounds to it's material avatar. The Ritual of Chud incorporated this idea. Great video!

So, IT has been Paul Bunyan, Jaws, a giant spider, etc. IT's worst enemy is a cosmic turtle who created our world by mistake, they are ruled by Gan (Gann?) And IT came to this Earth millions of years ago. And he has mind control abilities. And feasts on the feeling of fear. You could make a religion out of this.

I read the book when it was first published in 1986. Not my first King novel. But when IT started talking about turtles, giant spiders, etc. I was lost. I may have found an explanation back then but thanks to you, I'm reminded.

I don't think that IT takes the weaknesses of something that it turns into (as you mentioned - werewolf). Silver slugs hurt IT because children BELIEVED they would ("knowledge" they picked up from the movie). Same goes for the "battery acid" from the book and mini series.
