Excellent presentation! I was born with spina bifida (myelomeningocele) in 1949. Early surgical intervention, and an outstanding team of physicians and surgeons have made the difference in the length and quality of my life. We need more presentations like this to raise public awareness about spina bifida. Thank you for valuable service.

Its really a thing to life with SB ... Everyone is different and u cant say how life is going :( .... im 39 now and im struggeling with pain(again).... It will never end untill i die i guess ... but im happy thers some tramadol what is making my day.... i feel slowly that my legs dont want anymore ... the bloodlines r heavy and my temperature is in every part of my leg another (heat or icecold together) .... i have almost no feeling anymore on my spineline . And really its going slowly and that really hurts every day ....I have no questions because it cant be answered .... i even cant take a look into the great wide internet, because theres nothing to see ....

Is Spina bifida hereditary? I'm a 39 year old male my dad has just been diagnosed with Spina bifida..i have been off my feet last year with a suspected herniated disc, and again just recently, so bad for 6 weeks , starting very mild and getting to the point I couldn't stand up or walk, I'm just started walking with a frame but the pain in my hip and leg is excruciating, could I also have Spina bifida???

When you say long, how long roughly? Googling brings up different numbers. I am almost 36 with a toddler so of course I would like to be around to see her grow up.

Dear @Josh_Randall85, normally, if not complicated by pulmonary or urinary non treateable infection or deterioration of spinal cord lesions, life expectancy is like normal population: you will definitively be around

They are very difficult to treat Some suggested botox or guanetidiine blocks but with no certains results

In case of untreated hydrocephalus what is life expectancy,My daughter has mild hydrocephalus she born with mylomaningocele and now 2 years old plz reply

If neurological signs get worse then hydrocephalus need to be treated otherwise life expectancy is normal
