The Pilgrims were greeted by a man named Tisquantum, in English. He had been kidnapped and sold as a slave in Europe. He learned English and Spanish. He was freed and caught a ship back home, but his tribe had died out from a plague. So Tisquantum went North to live with the Wampanoag and was able to be an interpreter between them and the Pilgrims

The basic Thanksgiving meal is usually built around turkey and stuffing, giblet gravy, white mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, green beans, pumpkin and sweet potato pie, but each family will add its own specific side dishes according to their taste or their ethnic background of where they live.

The food varies by region due to culture and local foods. "We Gather Together" is a traditional Thanksgiving Day hymn. "We Gather Together" is a Christian hymn of Dutch origin written in 1597 by Adrianus Valerius as "Wilt heden nu treden" to celebrate the Dutch victory over Spanish forces in the Battle of Turnhout. It was originally set to a Dutch folk tune. In the United States, it is popularly associated with Thanksgiving Day and is often sung at family meals and at religious services on that day. You can watch coverage of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade broadcast on NBC on KZfaq.

The guy discussing food made a joke about the "blue box" . He is referring to Kraft Mac&Cheese vs making Macaroni and cheese from scratch and not the box. Sweet potatoes (marshmallow is optional) is a side dish. Wild rice is a grass grown in the Great Lakes area. It is not actually rice but it is considered incthe rice category.

Alabama Thanksgiving includes fried turkey or smoked, dressing with turkey gravy (stuffing), green bean casserole, cranberry (we get it jelled from a can), mac and cheese casserole, potato salad, sweet potato pie (or the casserole with marshmallows), a chocolate cake, maybe a salad. In central Illinois we always have Turkey, homemade dressing, mashed potatoes, celery stuffed with pimento spread, sweet potatoes with brown sugar and marshmallows on them baked in the oven, a salad of some sort, deviled eggs or smoked eggs, homemade cranberry sauce, broccoli and rice casserole, green bean casserole, corn casserole (which has peppers, onions, corn muffin mix, corn and sour cream in it then baked in oven), Turkey gravy, dinner rolls with butter, pineapple cheese ball and crackers, deer salami with cream cheese and jalapeño jelly on crackers, homemade dill pickles, cottage cheese, homemade pies like: pumpkin pie, pecan pie, raisin pie, Hello Dollies, various other desserts. My favorites out of all the above is my moms homemade dressing, it is the best and look forward to it every year! Sweet potatoes with marshmallows, and homemade pecan and pumpkin pies are also my faves. We have our immediate family there which is about 18 of us but we usually have a couple Aunts, Uncles, neighbors and friends drop in and out too so sometimes we have upwards of 22-25 people throughout the day. We actually celebrate Thanksgiving the week before Thanksgiving on a Saturday because it’s easier for all of us to get together as some of us work at factories and they don’t let you off just because it’s a holiday and so many people ask off for the holiday that they can’t let everyone off so we started doing ours the Saturday before because we had a more likely chance of all getting off and less traffic for traveling home, plus it’s the opening weekend of deer shotgun season the week before Thanksgiving and all our men deer hunt so the men deer hunt Friday and Saturday then we have Thanksgiving on Saturday evening. If the men kill out Saturday then us ladies are all scrambling to keep the food warm and not dried out or burned while they track a shot deer or tag and take their kill to town to the locker plant. It’s always exciting and lots of great memories and we always have deer meat at Thanksgiving. My brothers are always learning new ways to smoke it, dry it into different flavored jerky’s and salami. My favorite is jalapeño and cheese deer salami. We play pinochle, Shanghai Rummy, Phase 10, Black Lady Hearts, various board games at Thanksgiving. Lots of story telling by the older generation which now includes me and my brothers. We have four nieces and nephews serving in our military (representing Army, Air Force and Navy) and three have been overseas in the military for the past few years and we have really missed them. Looking forward to this year as they are all supposed to be home for Thanksgiving. We have a lot to be thankful for here in the USA and this Thanksgiving we will have even more to be thankful for, just being all together under the same roof again. Thank you God.❤

So YES, here in North Carolina the sweet potato is on the table, more than 1 way. YES, mac & cheese, my husband actually makes the best macaroni pie. Oh dear God! The fact that as a woman in those times she was a magazine editor at all is quite remarkable. The Battle of Gettysburg was both the turning point of the Civil War and the bloodiest multi-day battle that lasted 3 days (Antietam was the bloodiest single day battle) of the war. Most than 50,000 casualties with over 8,000 dead, not counting the ones would later die from their injuries or disease. So it's no wonder Abraham Lincoln saw it fitting to make it a National day of Thanksgiving. He wanted throughout the war to find ways to unify as much of the country as he could. We have a turkey various vegetables including sweet potatoes, filling (stuffing), cranberry sauce and various desserts which almost always includes pumpkin pie. A blue box references a brand named called Kraft which is a kit to make mac and cheese but isn't really very good. Sweet Potatoes are a side dish, with or without marshmallows or a candied glaze. I've never had Indian pudding but yes, ShooFly pie is huge here in the southeast of Pennsylvania. It's was originally created by the Amish and Mennonite colonists who came from what is now Germany, Switzerland, and the Netherlands. If you like molasses you'd love it! Beer cheese is amazing! I'm not a huge fan of beer but homemade with local craft beer is yum! We have white, yellow, red and blue corn in many different varieties. God, I've never seen this skit! 😅😂🤣😅😂 I think he was referring to Johhny Depp (and every other actor that did) portraying Tonto in the Lone Ranger remake.

How arrogant and insensitive is that? (Me) But it was really interesting watching your reactions. Too cool! 🤩 A lot of Thanksgiving dinners have heritage brought in. I'm in the Midwest, and our usual Thanksgiving dinner is turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, scalloped corn, green bean casserole, dressing, cranberry sauce, hot rolls.......🤔..... and that's about it. Oh, pumpkin pie and maybe a blueberry pie. You guys should come and have a Thanksgiving dinner with an American family. Yeah, the family all gathers for dinner - parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins. L❤ved this reaction!

My typical southern Thanksgiving meal : Turkey, ham with pineapple glaze, white bread stuffing, turkey gravy, mashed potatoes, potato salad (diced or mashed potatoes, raw onion, celery, mayo, mustard, sweet pickle relish, chopped boiled eggs), corn pudding or souffle (creamed corn, cream, sugar egg), Mashed sweet potato (with butter, brown sugar, pecans and diced apple topped with marshmallow) sweetened cranberries, green bean casserole, hot sourdough rolls and butter, pecan pie, apple pie, chocolate pie. Meals are eaten at 3-4 o'clock and again at halftime during the football game, LOL. Saturday Night Live is an American staple since 1972. That skit referred to the fox and the peacock, for reference, FOX is a far right conservative news network and the peacock is the symbol for NBC television and their news division is considered very liberal. Thank guys for this rather well thought out reaction!! Happy Thanksgiving

I would say most people would have at least one of the meats they serve be a turkey. I would also assume they would have stuffing and rolls with the meal. After that it would be dependent on your location and what's your family's likes are. I have a big family so we would generally have turkey, chicken, beef, ham, ribs, fried fish or shrimp and BBQ. But things differ depending on the people invited and who's cooking. Most times Friends and family would bring a covered side dish too, so the amount of side dishes can be huge... Along with many desert options. Now I'm hungry...lol!🍽️😊 As a Southerner: **Homemade mac and cheese is the best, never out of a box!! Baked sweet potatoes/yams are a side dish, sweet potato pie (never pumpkin pie, as a whole my family does not like it... Carrot souffle taste like cooked sweet potatos) is a desert... All of it Delicious! Just my opinion, but you really need someone who knows how to cook it properly for the first time you taste Thanksgiving dishes so you will know what the true authentic taste would be.

I’ve commented to a few British reaction channels before about the pronunciation of “pecan”. I’m from Texas where where the majority of pecans are grown. The correct pronunciation is “pi KAHN”. A “PEE can “ is an emergency restroom, or loo as you call it. Pecan pie tastes far too good to spoil it with the image of a pee can. Also Texans have the tradition of making tamales during the holiday season. What you saw in the picture was the corn husk they’re cooked in. That’s removed before eating. The man in the video needed to provide a little more detail to better inform his audience.

Very factual. Thanksgiving was a part of everyday life. You gave thanks at each meal. What we celebrate could be called harvest celebration. But terms got mixed up & everyone calls the holiday Thanksgiving now. LOL!! The date was codified with victory at Saratoga. For some unknown reason it was the third Thursday for a while now it is the fourth. Many non-traditional foods are had at Thanksgiving. But the Turkey is still most common to celebrate beating up on the British er . . . I mean Thanksgiving. Sorry guys. A pee can is something you leave at the side of the bed if you can't make it to the bathroom at at night. LOL!! He is saying it right way. But it can be either way actually. Sweet potato pie is very good occasionally with toasted marshmallows on top. Give you the recipe sometime. Pecan pie is dessert. To make it less sweet cut down on the sugar & up the corn syrup. Wild rice is dark hulled rice. It is really so good. It is hard to explain. Wild rice is pricy so I haven't had it in a while. You take the corn husk off to eat tamales. They are very good but he is right, they are a major pain to make.

@@BritPopsReact There's an essay coming, so brace yourself 😆 The 15 minute video I will crank up the pestering on has three natural breaks in it, so BP1 can pause to recover quite nicely. 😉 I'm off work this week (supposingly to finish decorating the bathroom and Ollie's bedroom, and to get the Christmas tree up. So far nothing is complete, but that's another story). So I'm able to avoid the strike hullabaloo this week. Really not looking forward to the next 4 weeks though, particularly the week prior to Christmas. People can usually send by special delivery within the UK right up until the 23rd and it's guaranteed next day delivery. Not this year. It's gonna be crazy at work. Boo hiss. Howard Jones. Here's the link Chuey's Mama gave me. It's just under 2 minutes, so doesn't warrant a full video on its own, so maybe during a live? Filters most likely required I would think seeing as the last live got taken down for a bit. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/r6ege85zyp2Uhas.html Which leads nicely to suggestions for tomorrow's live (told ya it was an essay). Are you doing an artist spotlight for December? And if so have you chosen one? If not, maybe do a live poll for it? Or if you have chosen one already, ask people what their favourite reaction video from you was, and pick one so you can react to your reaction (if that makes sense?) I learned all sorts of stuff from that. Roasting a turkey is kind of tricky. If you've ever roasted a chicken and had it go wrong, this is the same thing on a bigger scale. Two things from the deep south that do not get to Indiana, where I live, are deep fried turkey (which my nephew, a professional chef, regards as worse than communism) and turducken, which is, and I'm not making this up, a chicken stuffed into a duck which is then stuffed into a turkey. Only in the south. What we have where I live is persimmon pudding. If you go 50 miles in any direction no one has heard of it, but it is a seasonal dessert around here, buy it in the grocery store

@Tom Hemmer Hi Tom, thanks for the interesting information, deep fried Turkey, now that is a first for us, but I guess it must be a bit like KFC. You have a great day Tom and all the best from us two.

Contrary to popular belief, turkeys do not celebrate Thanksgiving. 😉😉

I’ve gotta say, this video is a little off. It’s like history-lite. Lol. The original Thanksgiving was given by the Pilgrims to give thanks to God for those who survived the winter. They lost half of their numbers the first winter to exposure and disease. Those who were left celebrated and gave thanks to God for those who survived. They celebrated with the local Indian tribes who they were friendly with and who helped them survived. Everything else in the video was close enough.

Last couple of years have been tough with Covid. I made everyone take a Covid test before they came and my brother took temperatures at the door. We were lucky no one got sick. We also made a rule no political talk. More than half of us are democrats the other trumpers. It stayed pleasant with no arguments.

Making the video transparent because it got blocked instead of waiting until the block expired! I guess you're not acquainted with your fellow countryman I don't know the name of his channel I just use this little story even for the idiots in the United states that make the videos transparent plaster symbols and riding on over the top of the video which usually says copyright or for copyright. Here I go again a gentleman from Britain posted a video on KZfaq which I was watching. In the video I watched he made a statement that another video of his had gotten blocked. He further Spain explained that it had been blocked for 29 days. Interesting that he knew the number of days the block was lasting at the beginning of the block. I guess maybe he looked in KZfaq policy or investigated the block and found out the information of the length of the block. Anyway, back to the video he stated that it was the 14th day of the block and that there were 15 days left of the block. He then further stated that as soon as the block had expired, he would post the other video which had been blocked to KZfaq when the block had expired. So, at that time, I had written down the name of the video I sure enough he posted the blocked and now unblocked video on the 30th day after the block started making it one day after the block ended. He posted the video it was not transparent he didn't reverse it so I would have had to turn my back to the TV or computer and look in a mirror to see it in this original format. He didn't plaster blocked video across the screen. There were no words across the screen saying copyright or for copyright or copyright issue. Because the video was not blocked anymore because he waited until the block expired before he posted it on KZfaq! And I believe he also had the text of the fair use clause of the copyright laws in his description of the video! Along with a statement that he had no ownership in the video he reacted to and did not expect any monetary compensation for posting it to KZfaq. I am wondering if I should look in your description and see if you have the fair use clause of the copyright law and a statement saying you don't own the video you reacted to.

12 days ago, you posted your reaction to oversimplified part one of the American Revolution! 12 days later and you still haven't posted oversimplified part two of the American Revolution. Just for a correction it was the US revolution not the American Revolution there are 35 American countries. Europe is 1 continent but it's actually on the same landmass as Asia. That's why the Orient express train runs from Moscow to Beijing China. Sometimes the landmasses called Eurasia because it includes Europe and Asia. And all the countries in the Middle East are Asian countries except for Egypt which is an African country. The current vice president of the United States is Asian African. Asian because a branch of her family which she descended from is from the country of India. African because a branch of her family which she is also descended from it's from an African country maybe Kenya, South Africa? Because of all the reasons stated in my two comments I had to give this video a dislike!
