I was really surprised that Launchpad turned out to be faking being an idiot to get close to scrooge. His betrayal was completely out of left field!

Magica has the odd distinction of having three different nationalities in different versions of the franchise. In the original comics she was Italian, in the '80s cartoon she was Russian (voiced by June Foray using the exact same voice as Natasha from Rocky and Bulwinkle), and here Catherine Tate uses her natural English accent. And of course this is one more time of Tennant and Tate being cast together after their legendary chemistry in Doctor Who.

I love how it’s implied the Terra Fermians were having the same conversation as they were about them.

Magica is one of the characters from the original. Lena if I’m not wrong Is a character made for the Reboot. Some characters are from the original, some are new, and some from its spin-offs that appear here Part of what I love about this reboot. There are a lot of nods to the original but is touched up and given new stuff thrown in to keep old fans on their toes. Even the old characters like the triplets and Webby was given a lot of personality this time to stand out alongside Scrouge

You found and Easter Egg. Count Duckula was a thing. It was a cartoon series about a vampire duck (more in line with the Ducktales ducks instead of the real life ones. Felt the need to clarify because "Bunnicula."). According to Google, it ran from 1988 to 1993, and had 65 episodes.

Lena, voiced by Kimiko Glen of course. (Nifty-Hazin Hotel, Horse from Centaurworld, Izzy - MLP) Too bad she doesnt get to sing a song in this show, she has such a great singing voice, especially in Centaurworld. Another crazy watch, if you are in for some madness.

So Fun(?) Fact: The Terra Fermains were part of the original DuckTales series and the story of the games Webby says they play ties to the adventures the DuckTales crew found themselves involved in from the 1980s series. The (?) of the fun fact is that we sadly never see them again in this whole show (I can only assume it was due to the show being shut down before they could have the planned 4th season).

I don't know if you've picked up on it yet but Huey is commonly headcanoned as autistic by the fandom and as an autistic person myself I would even argue he's pretty explicitly autistic coded. It was obvious to me from the start (in that classic "one of us, one of us, one of us" way) but I feel like this is one of the early episodes that popularised the reading. His reliance on the Junior Woodchuck Guidebook, his enthusiasm over societally "odd" interests, the palpable relief he shows when he's added the Terra-Firmians to his Guidebook which is so obviously a comfort item. It all made me feel very seen ngl.

Has anyone pointed out yet that this show actually brings in characters from all of the old Disney afternoon shows? These guys had a show back in the '80s, but they also include the Rescue Rangers, The Wubbles, The Gummi Bears, so many different characters. It's awesome.

"Count Dracula Duck" was one of the bosses in the NES Ducktales game from the era of original 1987 series. It got a beautiful remaster in 2015 or so. It was pretty beloved and stood out among NES titles, especially the soundtrack. As for Dracula Duck I think he appeared in the old show at one point but it's hard to remember all 70 episodes after 10 years.

Terra Fermians were a classic race of character from the original Ducktale cartoon series. Lot of nostalgia with this episode.

Lena seems to be following the *Evil Minion Type Ⅲb* track: infiltrator sent to get close to the heroes, but develops real friendship in the process. Will betray them at a critical juncture, but will feel _sad_ about it. Eventually rebels against the bad guy(s) and sides with the heroes. May sacrifice themselves for redemption or may live to join the heroes, depending on the severity of the betrayal and how sympathetic their reason for originally being with the bad guy(s) was.

Trivia for this episode. The Terrafirmians appear during an episode of the original series. Earthquakes begin to terrorize Duckburg and Scrooge’s money bin is at risk of cracking. Investigating the groups finds the Terrafirmians are in the middle of a rowdy Olympic type sport to determine their new king, and that is what is causing the quakes.

The near silent "We're heading down the subway" warning they make always gets me.

But... well, this isn't too much of a spoiler, but it's not brought up again. She's never able to touch anyone else in the show. Well, actual spoiler time: I'm serious, don't read past this point. Not able to touch people until she regains her body. Then, of course, she can touch people. But as a shadow, this is the only time we see it. She actively phases through the only other person she tries to touch. Plot hole, I guess? Or maybe Scrooge is immune somehow. Who knows?

Little fun fact. I understand that The Terrafirmens apparent in the original DuckTales series in 87. Just another example of the dedication and respect this crew showed for the original when they did this remake. Lena is one of the fan favorite characters of the series. Watching this episode again I did catch the hurt look on her face when Miss Beakley made that remark regarding who raised her. Ironically she is a bit wrong regarding who's influencing who between her and Webby.

I recently found a version of the german comics that is in english to help kids learn the language. Love that! Beakley this episode is like way too many adults. Constantly berating and disrespecting a child and then getting worked up when that child doesnt treat them like an infallible god.

In the original ducktales the terrafermians are rolling creatures who have a race where they crash into the wall in a cave, causing earthquakes and that threatens to drop all scrooges money into the cave under the money bin. So basically they changed everything about them except for the names and appearance but I love this episode to much to be mad about it

I'm only a few episodes ahead so I can't give any real spoilers for this series, but in the original comic and cartoon series Magika DeSpell was the Duckverse's equivalent of Morgana LeFay from Arthurian Legend, usually appearing as a villainess trying to steal magical artifacts in Scrooges possession to restore or enhance her magical powers, or sometimes steal Scrooge's lucky coin which has actually been imbued with magical luck due to scrooge taking it on dozens of adventures, Scrooge has also been implied to have had a romantic relationship with her in the past. Again this is all info from previous iterations of the show, so all,some, or none of it might be true in this show. And that's assuming that "Aunt Magika" is the same character and not just a red herring to make people who know the originals think it's the same character, or that it is the same character but radically altered from the original for this version.

And now for today’s two lies and a truth: 1. The candy she mentions she eventually somehow manages to get Scrooge to finance having it made. But since she got Gyro to help make it. It kind of gave people who ate the candy temporary random superpowers. 2. Launchpad throughout the rest of the series actually views Dewey as his best friend for better and for worse. Example is when Dewey is in trouble. He doesn’t even hesitate to put himself and the other siblings in danger to try to save him. 3. They’ll be an episode in the third season where the triplets actually start trying to date Lena. And she just has fun screwing with them before letting them down as gently as she can. (and kinda hints she’s actually more interested in Webbie)

5 maybe spoilers, maybe lies, maybe half truths 1: Lena and "Aunt Magica" are actually a single entity in classic fantasy style, Scrooge defeated the dark lord Magica in a spell to banish evil, but all it did was split her between her good and bad sides, the good side became a kid *the last time in her life she was good* but with amnesia; the bad side survived however as a shadow demon and remembers everything, but has to act through Lena and convinced her she is her aunt, and Lena at some point had banished her but as we saw called her back. 2: Aunt Magica needs inside the mansion as Scrooge did defeat her with an evil banishment spell, but it caused her body to turn to invincible stone to protect its self while her spirit was stuck in the shadow realm. She is using her niece as a living host to anchor herself to the physical plane and needs to get inside the mansion to get back to her body to revive herself *Scrooge's magic defenses as mentioned in episode 1, prevent her from entering on her own...unless she is anchored to someone who was invited in* 3: Aunt Magica is Uncle Scrooge, centuries ago they were once one being, but Scrooge's greed got so bad and made him do such horrible things that a shaman put a curse on him to banish the wickedness from his heart, which took the form of a female shadow as Scrooge was originally a woman but the Shaman's spell was a little too specific on "two sides split, not just good and bad* (think that episode of Rannma 1/2 where an amulet made Ranma's girl side manifest as a psychic ghost),and Scrooge has had to wear a disguised magical amulet all this time to prevent the spirit from possessing hos body. So the plan, sneak in, get the amulet off of scrooge, so Magica can reclaim her body. 4: Its all comically more mundane than we think, as Aunt Magica is actually Scrooge's ex-wife and he owes her a lot in the divorce, but it was a magic wedding and magic divorce from a demon realm so his wards have kept him from having to pay, but its been decades now so the back owed payments would be insane and Scrooge is in too deep and too greedy to give up now. 5: *see maybe spoiler 1* but instead of Lena its Webby who is the original body of Magica but they need to break a seal that Scrooge keeps on his person for Magica to possess and reclaim her original body. This is why the spy working with Scrooge have up till now kept Webby inside the mansion, she IS one of the cursed artifacts he keeps locked up there. But there has been no sign of Magica for years now so their guard is lightening up.

Not a spoiler, just really glad they made a friend for Webby. She was left out way too much in the original series..

Fun fact that is not a spoiler since it is never brought up... Webby is a year OLDER than the triplets. At the start of the show she is 11 and the triplets are 10. Lena is 14.

I really hate how Beakly treated Lena in this one. Like I get wanting to keep your grandchild safe but it was just awful how she immediately assumed the teenager is a bad kid even though Webby has proven to make her own desicions and gets herself in trouble multiple times by this point. Idk.
