The first diet is the Healthier Kibble Diet, a great diet for the kibble feeder asking what is the best food to feed my dog and this a great way to help level out dog allergies quickly, while giving your dog a chance to regain better health all round.
Ending health problems for dogs with allergies and starting or reclaiming proper health for any dog health problem relies on a diet that provides enough of the right combination of proteins and enzymes. And this is a great starting diet for allergy dogs.
The second diet is the Home Cooked Food Diet, a healthy diet for dogs with allergies. There are some really good reasons for homemade dog food with ingredients you've selected yourself. Your dogs health issues might be getting worse or they've had long term health complaints and your dog needs more exacting nutrition to heal.
Dogs fed prepared homemade meals are generally healthier than dogs on commercial kibble or canned diets, and you'll find your vet bills are lower.
The third diet is the Raw Food Diet, the best dog food for allergies and healing more acute diseases. I’m at a lost. The Science Diet changed their formula for the hydrolyzed food. I read the disclosure in the back after he still had diarrhea on his second bag. He was fine with them when he was a puppy. I switched to Nature Path venison and potatoes so I thought his body was just adjusting. Then I used Costco salmon dry dog food. Now he’s itching like crazy and hair falling out with super dry skin. He’s allergic to chicken and beef. Does this apply only to process dog food? Can I feed him raw diet of chicken and beef? Or just stick with raw Turkey and venison? Don’t know what to do. Veterinarian gave him medicine but did not help with itching. Did not continue knowing it shuts down his immunity and also says it damages kidneys! I just wanted him to have some relief until it got out of his system.

Well done for knowing vet drugs are of no use and cause the damage you stated. Science diet is BAD food, actually it's not even real food any more! He's not allergic to raw fresh meats, only the canned foods as they have additives and these cause the issues. Yes you can feed raw chicken and beef plus add lamb/venison/pork option for 3 meat choices from different animal types ie bird, cow, lamb/mutton. Also add some form of offal like liver, chiken guts etc and some part cooked veg (well crushed). Raw turkey and venison is good too. Must add a good probiotic to every meal to ease digestion transition: amzn.to/3xqa2i0 Also add a good oil like hemp oil: amzn.to/3vDdtjX Also add raw eggs and if adding meats as you say, you must add some crushed eggshell 1/8th teaspoon per meat meal. Just dry the egg shells. Plus add some canned sardines packed in water only. Now your complete and the skin/coat will come good pretty quickly. As for the present itching, that's a difficult one to stop quickly. Once the new diet is underway, expect it to take up to 3 months to abate but maybe much less. For now while transitioning, you could get some oregano oil: amzn.to/3ulnF1T mix it with olive oil or coconut oil at 7 parts olive/coconut oil to 1 part oregano oil. And rub all over the body avoiding eyes/genitals, leave on for an hour or two then wash off with gentle castil soap only: amzn.to/3zJkF0k This will bring great relief and reduce itching. You've got your work cut out but well worth it to turn all this around and our dogs are worth it for the love and joy they bring us.

Hi Dan, we have a big 2yr old Mastiff, we've had 'stool' test & 'hair follicle' tests done as she has constant sore ears & paws & allergies.. Tests showed she has very high 'mercury' levels. We cannot understand how she got so much. When we first got her at 10 weeks she had a swollen gut from worms.. She is on a diet (mainly turkey) given by a Animal Wellness Lady but levels have not gone down in 8 months sadly. I'm so sad for her as her inner ears are hurting her...do you reccomend anything?

That's from either diet, vaccines, meds/drugs, envirionment opr a combination. The mercury is from food/vaccines/vet drugs/OTC drugs with possible environmental. Hi Dan. Love the video. I recently adopted a 2 year old who was surrendered cos of his allergies. His allergies cause ear infections. When I adopted him he was given hills D/D. Which is either venison or salmon. I don’t like giving kibbles to dogs , so I immediately started transitioning him to a home cooked food. I was told that he is allergic to chicken and beef , maybe eggs too. I am giving turkey now. Mixed with pumpkin purée , carrots , spinach , brown rice. But I want to give the best diet possible for him. Is there any suggestions to make him feel better and fight the allergies ? Thanks a lot.

Give zero carbohydrates. So no rice, pumpkin etc. Just proteins, fish, eggs (raw), canned sardines and 10% part cooked and blended veg. @@ashidissan1135 Yes they do. Any protein he'll eat. Animal protein is best plus raw green tripe, eggs, sardines etc If you have to use carbs, make then whole carbs (not white) and less than 10% of meal volume and mash the food up before serving. But yes, carbs fuel yeast and dogs don't need carbs for fuel, they get that from fat and protein.

May I ask a question? I have a pit mix, he's mixed with all three pit rottweiler and blue heeler. His skin is super super dry to where he itches alot, that and seem to have some anal gland issues. I have him on a fish kibble Orign. My vet mentioned something about apoquel or something, but I am not s fan of pumping pills into my dog. I have tried all kinds of extra fish oils, coconut oil everything but his skin is still just super dry. Is there anything else I can add or is there a video on where I can start to learn about the raw diet?

I understand you and you are on the right track with diet as skin is an organ and needs to be fed from the inside via nutrition not covered over by vet drugs like apoquel poison (it's designed to literally switch off the immune system response so the itching stops but the underlying problem remains while the immune system is down across the board!) Extra oils are good but not fish oil alone. I do have a video on the best kibbles... 3 of them but if your willing raw is best and will fix your dogs problem quite fast. @@amyanderson9652 A raw food diet will keep him in great shape for life and you'll find you wont need vet drugs or vaccines. It will also fix the skin and anal gland issues... plus his muscles will look better more defined and his energy more regulated without the carbs in kibble causing swings.

Medications are only ever a temporary fix and don't work for long. It's the underlying condition that as I think you understand needs fixing. And yes, diet is the key. A dog needs fresh food, good oils and lots of antioxidents in the diet to clear allergies and this can't happen when there's drugs involved. This includes vaccines (bad!), flea&tick meds (v. Bad), dewormers (v.bad) etc. There's natural alternatives for everything. Some medications like Apoquel simply switch off the immune system so the dog can't feel anything but then leave him wide open to infection. I have 2 dogs, one has major allergy symptoms and one has some recurring ear infections and paw licking etc. Been told to use Purina Pro Plan HA, is this the best way to go? I already feed raw so I don’t know what I can do.

There must be history to this and a raw diet not balanced in some way. Keep all carbs out of the diet for the ears, no vaxx and no purina. Better to use Ketona as it's 5% carbs and high in proteins: healthydogforlife.com/KetonaHealth For the allergy dog, use Colstrum: (for allergies, sensitivity, intolerance): amzn.to/3H79rad To clean the ears and use as an antibiotic, use oregano oil: amzn.to/3ulnF1T For cleaning, add 1 drop of the oregano oil to a tsp coconut oil, mix well and use cotton swab to clean out the ears while at the same time, add the same mixture to the dogs food as an antibiotic for 7 days. Add raw eggs, canned sardines to the diet also.

Hi Dan, what diet do you recommed for a dog, maltipoo 10 yrs old, she is diabetic with history of pancreatitis and liver disease? I am giving her liver supplements and omega 3! Also CBD oil! Now her urine has shown high cortisol… please help

A far better option is adding fresh foods into the diet. my dog has been itching and her skin got so red most of doctors told me that she’s allergic to some plants or chicken and they recommended me anallergenic royal canin but my dog is not really eating well enough and she’s still itching but less than before unfortunately we don’t have a test allergy in my city what do you recommend me to give her to make her healthier?

I understand your dogs problem completely. That rc diet will do nothing but makes things worse. sara, I had the same problem with my dog and her vet asked me to give her food that has salmon and that took care of the problem. Costco has the dry food with salmon and Walmart has the wet food Beneful/salmon. Good luck.

Hey Dan. I hope 14 1/2 years isn't too late, but she has health issues. She's blind, has Pit. Cushings(so the LDDS test said), possible Dementia(or brain tumor-teeth chomping and head shaking), and envir. allergies. She gets strong CBD oil-25-40 mg./day. . She's never had any raw food till recently. I need some advice. Tonight I gave her 1/4 lb. raw grass fed beef(93% lean), 1 raw egg, pasture raised, with the shell, 1/16 scoop of marine phytoplankton, and 1/2 tsp C8 MCT oil. Do I need to add anything else to this. She'll get this twice a week. For lunch she gets 1 Tspn Chobani plain nonfat greek yogurt with billions of probiotics(so it says). She does get snacks like wild blueberries, baby carrots, slices of apples, cucumbers. I just gave her 1/2 tblsn of raw beef liver 2 nights ago with her meal. And I give her 1- 1 1/2 sardines-with water, no salt. twice a week. She also gets fish; either wild alaskan salmon or cod once a week. Her allergies are bad right now. And they've come and gone for years. Inflamed/red ears with mild discharge. Chewing/licking her feet till they bleed, and rubbing her face on the grass, or pawing at her face. The vet just wants to give Apoquel. CBD doesnt help. So, what now? Your doing great work from what I'm reading. That link does not work but if they have independant lab analysis on the CBD... it's working all right. This will take time, it's been 14.5 years! Lots of veggies is great, more the merrier. Lightly cooked, well crushed or blended with the veg. Kefir is better then the yoghurt for probiotics but raw eggs, meats etc has good probiotic life too. Get some silver spray for the ears and feet and spray twice daily: amzn.to/3iJ6hjB Get some Beta Glucans for immune system strength/allergies. 1 cap daily: amzn.to/3gPOox1 Also start clearing out the toxins in the liver/kidneys with Milk Thistle. @@DanScott1 Thanks for responding. It's weird, i click the link and it goes thru. They grow their own hemp in Kentucky, CO2 extracted, 3rd party tested, and have a C.O.A. Which Kefir is better, plain? How much would I give her? There's a health food store 10 minutes from me. She's had Milk thistle in the past-Hepato liquid from the vet. She also takes Denamarin every day for the liver. Thanks again for the info!

@@DanScott1 Thank you again. I'm not sure if my last 2 comments went thru, but, Is lowfat or whole Kefir better? Some have 22-30% fat(worried about her liver enzymes-Alp's last checked were over 1100-Alt close to normal, but GGT and AST were normal). And should it be pasteurized? I picked up some Green Valley lowfat lactose free which has no Vitamin D. Just curious. How long have you been doing this, to figure all this stuff out?

@@BOC4ALL I use wholefat regular organic milk to make my own kefir at home. The best kefir is organic, raw and unpasteurized but hard to find. There should be no lactose in kefir as it's been eaten by the kefir grains to create the tangy yoghurt like drink with all it's probiotics. I've been doing this 15 years +. One learns a lot in that time. Get as many vegetables as possible into your dog for the kidneys. Steam, crush/mash/blend and serve with other food. I think I mentioned milk thistle too.

Wowww everyone here is a veterinarian... cool. Before you start to treat your dog, and have him on diet didn't you first check if is allergy or another dermatology problem? Sarcoptic mange for example??? I don't understand people who treat their pets with online searches, befero to have diagnosed the real problem. Good luck.

I'd get back to basics with some fresh food in the diet. Kibble alone as a diet source can lead to many allergies in many dogs. By adding some fresh food and some supplements to the diet, things get better pretty quick, especially on an 8 month old dog. I asked my vet today about a raw diet for my dog with severe all year round allergies and he said NO.. he said that raw diets take twice the work for a dogs body to digest. idk what to do now because I'm tired of seeing me dog suffering. he is constantly scratching his ears and chewing fur off and licking his paws.. That's an interesting perspective your vet has. Has he ever fed a raw food diet? (I think not). I would say that when a dog is settled on a raw food diet, it takes half the work. You can already see where a commercial dry food diet is getting your dog - severe all year round allergies!!! My healthier kibble diet is an easy start and your dog and you will notice quickly. Please help- my adoptive king Shepard keeps getting ear infection again n again please help. Then throws up n has diarrhea. Meds don’t work- none! Steroid shot caused internal bleeding. OMG! Changed food 4 times n still😢😢😢 I need a specific diet to help.

If cooking the food try turkey, beef and lamb. Or go raw with green tripe, great complete food. Stay away from vet drugs and vaccines, stick to fresh food options and the allergies will go.

@DanScott1 I have tried raw chicken , raw ground turkey and raw beef. My 10 month old puppy keeps scratching his ears until they bleed and chewing at his back feet until those bleed. I'm gonna try lamb. Should I cook the protein to break it down or keep feeding raw? I'm just so lost. I hate seeing my dog like this. Please help.

@@skogenm1008 There's something more to this situation. Definitely low carbs of any type, and zero vaccs/vet meds. So the poops are normal? Somehow, allergies/histomines/auto immune issues are coming up. I'd mix up the meal a bit for better balance, so a meat, several eggs, can of sardines, some part cooked and blended veg for example. There's raw green tripe, great dog food and complete nutritionally. I'd look at adding a good soial based probiotic: amzn.to/3yoURqU slow and small first week. You could cycle through those meats to see whats works best. Treat the chewd parts to oregano oil: amzn.to/3ulnF1T 1-2 drops in desert spoon olive or coconut oil, mix and apply couple times weekly and massage in. Then there's freeze dried greens for antioxidants and flow.. which your dog needs: amzn.to/3R1m3HR Scoop size depends on dogs weight?

You cannot make kibble more healthy. Kibble is processed crap.

More or less. For those welded to kibble, I advise halving the kibble from the meal and replacing with fresh foods like sardines, meats, raw eggs and part cooked and blended veggies. It's a good start to lessen the 'processed crap' part of the diet equation.
