It's horrible in terms of CPU usage, esp. @ 96khz (I end up using Audiogridder to offload it), but it sounds AMAZING - just a tiny bit applied can add a 3d depth missing from just about every other reverb vst I've ever tried, and I've tried a lot, and have quite a few. Definitely best used as a send effect. The Arturia one is good, too. And Little Plate I like layered in with others (I don't like it as much on its own).

Hi, you are conducting a quite interesting comparison here. Thanks. What I would like to find out is, which plugin has the best CPU Performance vs which has best Sound, so in my experience most of the reverbation plugins can be really taking a lot of CPU away or introduce a lot of latency due to convolution FIRs with long Impulse Responses.

this was a lot of work, great job. as for feedback, i like this format but it's probably worthwhile to sometimes do it with a smaller selection in a little more detail, possibly with part 1 part 2 etc videos to shootout another group. and then there would be the option to ultimately shoot out the favorites from all of those previous groups. i understand the efficiency of using a snare, but a brief selection of other material (including human voice i hope) would probably be worthwhile.

Honourable mentions for today:- Dragonfly Plate Phoenixverb Xenoverb Melda Convolution Presonus' OpenAir (inside Studio One) TAL II & III Waves H-Verb Waves R-Verb I could make any of the above work for me I reckon.

I use mainly slate vintage verb but they are more digital style plates (I usually use the bm7 plates which I find beautiful in vocals) , I do occasionally use lustrous plates though it sometimes completely makes my session fall apart but cubase is a pain like that. I have tried Abbey road plates but doesn't work so well for the more lush mixes I go for. Your EMT definitely has a certain sound to it, quite dark with this interesting knock in the attack and modulation in the decay. Personally I preferred alot of the plugins, but they sound more similar, your EMT reminds me of some 60s recordings and reggae/dub tracks.

I've played with the Abby Road on a friend's system. The Arturia sounds very nice and usable in any context.... and it's simple(my preference 😏 ). It's my main go to voc verb. The Abby Road also sounds very nice in context of a track. Valhalla is a great sounding verb period, but not my choice for pure plate duty. Could you do a saturation shoot out, please 😊🙏

You should have done It through blind test and put why and how Manu stars you rate each one. Thanks anyways. I did the blind test with many channel API 2500 AND eq emulations and I prefered the lindell 50 channel. I throught that waves was better but It was increasing 1 db.

You really need to try the Black Rooster Audio RO-140. It’s kind of different and very cool sounding. Would go great with the indie version of Sandstorm.

One brilliant one you might have missed. Golden Plates by Kush developed with Relab. It's genius imo. Kush knows compression, Relab is top-tier reverb. Give it a shot.

Waves sounding so good and like the Real Thing I think.☀️ The Real EMI sounds also amazing, but with the plugins you have more possibilities. In this Video i was very surprised and I would go with the Waves Abbey Road Plate🍀 Vallhalla in default sounds like nothing… not like a real plate.

I know this was years ago but maybe it's time for an update? I use plate on lead guitar and tried all the free demos I could find. Listening to your test, I find that none of them have the deep density of your EMT, and that was exactly why I turned down most of those I demoed. To my own surprise SoundToys Little Plate was really superior to everything else. It truly sounds like a plate - and even has the cool infinity setting. I since upgraded to the new Super Plate with more features but sound quality-wise they are equal.

Would have loved it if you volume matched them all a little more closely together.

Oril River was surprising. Quite good. Reverberate was predictably good. Not surprising, the real EMT was the smoothest. My personal trick for getting very smooth plate reverb sounds from a plugin - use two different ones layered over each other. Takes some tweaking to get the finished result where you want it, but it’s worth it.

VSS3 Golden plate is lovely. I also own abbey road which is different but characterful.

All plugins are bright. Like you loosing much HF of hardware... Would be interesting if you highshelf hardware sample, and compare again. Great work!

How come there are hardly any spring reverb plugins?? The spring reverb in Amplitube is pretty good but I want to be able to run it 100% wet on a bus and without the CPU of the entire Amplitube plugin.

Why didn't you include the hardware Yamaha SPX90? As I recall you particularly liked the plate patch on those for snare.

AA Ebony plate? Edit: I think most of them were pretty good. Lustrous Plates sounded very spacey, Valhalla was very nice too, I think that has a good balanced sound.
