Hi, being a German 991.1 Carrera S owner and searching for a nice air cooled model, I really appreciated your overview and all the numbers and facts. Especially for someone who is a little bit more into 911 in general this and the other videos are great to watch. Thank's for your effort!! It seems that there are more Porsche enthusiasts in the US / UK than in the motherland of the brand.

Be careful of the DME fuel pump relay under the driver’s seat. Mine failed at 60,000+/- miles. The Taiwan replacement (Puro? Uro?) lasted only 18 months on average, and each replacement shut the engine suddenly without warning. Absolutely dangerous while cruising the highways. I then paid full retail and waited months for a genuine Porsche DME relay, no shutoffs since, and I always keep a spare genuine Porsche DME relay and a 10 MM wrench in the glove compartment. Reply if you need a quick description on how to change it out. Happy motoring! 👍

I bought new, in 1976, a Signature Edition 911. The car came in platinum and had F. Porsche engraved on the steering wheel by a soldering iron(?). The car cost just over $11,000, if I recall properly. Unfortunately the car was stolen from me while stationed in Germany in 1978. One piece of trivia, in top gear at 7,000 rpm, (redline was 7,500 rpm, but couldn’t pull the last 500 rpm in top gear) the car did exactly 134 mph on the autobahn. Thanks for the video and your efforts.

Great video! I’m sorry to say your whale tail picture isn’t quite right, as the 930 whale tail had split grills, with part of it matching slope of the roof, and a smaller one more aft and flat. The one you showed is a similar one from a special edition or aero kit, but not from a turbo (though admittedly it shares a similar whale tail rubber component from the turbo version. Still a great video, though!

@JAYREAD
@JAYREAD 6 ай бұрын
Interesting. I hadn’t heard that actually! I wonder why?
@aaronmunro5818
@aaronmunro5818 6 ай бұрын
It’s because the 915 is all in-house Porsche designed and made, unlike the G50. Also, the 915 has a more mechanical old-school feel with no assistance. The G50, albeit great too, was Porsche’s first attempt at making things “easier” for the driver. Modern 911s have taken that philosophy to new heights, of course.

Porsche 911 seems a lot like a design for a race car with its low engine seated in the wrong side of the car when you consider its handling capabilities. It is truly a wonder how it got marketed to regular people who would have no idea about low center of gravity. A race car is what it actually is!

Great video, but the 930 "widowmaker" got it's name not from surprise turbo lag kicking in, but rather the effects of easing off the throttle in a turn if the rear end started to get loose, a common occurrence in these rear engine cars. . The act of letting up on the throttle, a natural reaction to the rear end sliding out, would then cause a weight shift and a sudden oversteer that often ended badly.
@JAYREAD
@JAYREAD 3 жыл бұрын
It’s both. Lifting off or unexpected power will get you to the same place: the scene of the accident. www.speedhunters.com/2019/03/original-widowmaker/
@davidpope327
@davidpope327 3 жыл бұрын
So if the rear end started to break away what would you do? I had a Porsche 964 and when the rear end started to slide, I'd gently let off the throttle and the rear end would come right back.
@tommygola
@tommygola 3 жыл бұрын
It is two sides of the same coin. The engine in the back is what gives them so much grip under throttle but it is the same feature that gives bad lift-off over steer. These cars are amazing to drive, so pure, but they need to be treated with respect, turbo and non-turbo. Losing the rear under power can be controlled with some opposite lock. Losing the rear though lift-off over steer cannot be controlled. I sell new cars for a living but nothing makes me smile like my SC driven fast and smooth. Great video. The chart is excellent, thank you Jay!
@MeteCanKarahasan
@MeteCanKarahasan Жыл бұрын
I think camber thrust of negative camber is also a culprit. I wonder why cars aren't setup with positive camber and negatuve camber compensation under roll. That way you wouldn't have oversteer if either front corner caught immediate traction, the car would straighten under slip. People say understeer is dangerous, I say racers feel that way, not regular drivers.

The 911 is the poor man's 928. Sorry - I gotta call balls and strikes. the 928 was European "Car" of the Year 1979. No other sports car including the 911 has ever won "Car" of the year. The 928 has won 2 production car land speed record at Bonneville (1986 and 2020) - the 911 has exactly won none. Even 911 enthusiast Magnus Walker has started his 928 collection - its Now or Never for the 928 still the biggest Bang for the Buck in classic Porsches. Singer/RWB/RUF could easily reimagine 928s - its just a matter of time before someone specializes in customizing and outlawing 928s - There is no substitute.
