Stanley cup a team can compete for every year. World cup is just available once every 4 years. World cup is single elimination, a slight mistake can cost you everything. Stanley cup you can lose playoff games and a team is still in the race. Only 8 nations ever won the world cup, yet some are on a long drought: Uruguay since 1950, England since 1966 and Argentina since 1982.

But in the end you win a golden globe. Come on, the Stanley Cup is by far the coolest trophy to win. The night you win that you get to drink out of it. Because It's a cup. Seriously, why is it called the World Cup when there is no cup? I remember seeing that for the first time and thought, that's it? All of that playing and hype and that's it?! Also with the Stanley Cup your name gets etched in the side for all to see for years to come.

The best looking trophies for me are the FA CUP, UEFA Champions league, Stanley cup, Wimbledon mens singles and William Webb Ellis(Rugby Union World cup). Also for best trophy that isn't a trophy I like the Ashes urn in Cricket, I reslly love the symbolism of it.

World Cup every day of the week for me because it comes around every 4 years so not like hockey, baseball or football which if you lose this year there's always next year. AND your team with a World Cup is not chosen because it's for your national team so no such thing as being able to buy it by buying the best players in the league like the previously mentioned sports

Agreed with the exception of North American hockey. The NHL, which has the Stanley Cup, does not let you buy a team full of superstar players like PSG, Man City, The Galaticos or in other North American sports like baseball and basketball. NHL hockey has a very strict salary cap per team that prevents that kind of spending on players. Out of the major leagues in the USA it has the best parity by far.

in theory there were the best trophies for importance: 1- olympic gold medal 2- world cup football for nations 3- world cup footbal for clubs 3- NBA, NHL etc.. thophies 4- continental thophies (eurocup, copa america ...) 5- champions league 6- copa libertadores 7- nation league thophies (serie A, premier league ...)

Yeah... lol the World Cup winners get a toy to play with. Stanley Cup winners get to spend a couple of days with the Cup, over the off season. It travels to each winner, with it's handler. It goes to parties, and events with the players who've won it. Do the World Cup winners take their toy to parties with them? :P

They do not get to keep the real one for a year, unlike the Stanley Cup. And I don't think they even get to hang out with the replicas. Hockey players take the Stanley Cup to parties, they take it fishing, they take it boating, swimming, golfing... They literally spend time with it... The World Cup, as an event is way bigger than the Stanley Cup... but the trophies are not comparable. There is nothing special about the World Cup as a trophy... it's just an indicator that you've won (as all trophies are). The Stanley Cup is special. You sacrifice blood, sweat and tears to win it, so you can celebrate *with* it, and at the end of the summer, you give it back, just to be able to fight for it again. Being irish and from county mayo my favourite trophy is the SAM MAGUIRE CUP its the pinnacle of gaelic football and played before 80 000 and watched by a quarter of irelands population.Its not known outside ireland,but far irish people as a nation its huge as well as the hurling trophy the liam mccarthy can't compare it internationally to the other trophies,but still for one nation they mean a whole lot

World Cup means the most, but the Stanley Cup has the most individual value by far. It's the history of hockey, over 120 years old, and is the only other trophy that has it's name in the playoffs. Also you can argue it's value is better BECAUSE it's not a national thing but still is incredible to win. The world cup has value because of the stage, the Stanley Cup on the other hand gives the stage value.

Two, players are more willing to put their body on the line for the Stanley Cup than in any other sport, making it more valuable to the player. Third, there's only. It is a competition between nations, if you win it's like you lifted your country up and if you lose its like you let your country down, full of pressure and anxiety.
