Maybe I don’t fidget with my knives enough because I’ve never broken an omega spring. I’ve owned and used Benchmade knives for 20 years with no issue. Hope your Bugout gets fixed soon!

I took apart my grandpas old griptilian that's pretty old. From what I saw, the older springs are much wider so when they compress it doesn't put as much stress on them and distributes the force better I broke my benchmade 940 osbourne springs and they were much more narrow
@randymartin5521

Same here. I've got a 20+ year old Mini Griptilian and the original spring is still going strong. Also have a 8ish year old Griptilian and no issues with that either. They must have gone cheap on the spring material in recent years.

@@sweetdrahthaar7951 I have a number of Benchmade Axis lock knives and just one Hogue Deka (Wharncliffe) so far. But I gotta say, I’m impressed with the Deka’s overall build quality and “Able” lock (*Same design as Benchmade) is noticeably more solid, smoother functioning lock (*the lock bar never gets stuck in the locked position unlike some of my Benchmades) and the “omega” like springs might be a tad thicker too. It’s been my on the job (and countless fidget deployments) knife for about a year and it’s only impressed my more over time with its quality and functional design (including the blade shape).

@@SpecterSeventy2 Interesting info. Thanks. It’s difficult for me to discuss benchmade without politics being involved. When it was disclosed they had contributed millions to leftist politicians who are absolutely opposed to the Second Amendment.. I was done with them for good. The chopping up at firearms that had been confiscated is a non-issue for me. Hogue has been involved in the firearms industry for decades so I would hope they don’t support the socialist agenda. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🤠

Giant Mouse Knives make my favorite pocket knives, I have many of there Ace line. Out of there line I would recommend the Ace Biblio, it is a bit smaller that the Grand, but fits the hand so well. As for how I close my liner locks, I may be the odd one out, but I let the blade drop and hit my thumb nail, then close it the rest of the way. Thanks for the great videos and enjoy that mouse!
@kerryrwac

Nice choice, that one is made by Reate, a high end Chinese OEM. Reate does a really nice job. I use my thumb for liner locks. I adjusted the lock bar pressure on my ZT 0452, because it was hard on my thumb. You take the knife apart, remove the over travel stop on the lock bar, and then you push the lock bar gently "out", reassemble, and try it out. You may have to do it several times to get the lock bar tension where you want it.

Its of my opinion that liner locks are best suited for lefties. As someone that fidgets with my knives in both hands, after many years of fidgeting I have concluded that liner locks are so much easier to operate left handed then right (only exception being kershaws spring tensioned liner locks, I still find those easiest right handed) The way I like to fidget with my liner lock knafs left handed... I use my middle finger to disengage the liner lock, essentially you hold the knife near the pivot area by just your index and thumb and use your middle finger to slide across and disengage the lock... I like that when doing it this way your nail faces the blade rather then the meat of your finger or thumb, so if the blade drop shuts then the blade edge contacts a nail rather then making direct skin contact. Also I find I dont have to adjust my hand positioning much it at all to close the knaf this way and lastly closing this way really keeps your fingers out of the way, since again, your just holding the knifes handle with your index and thumb, which allows your other finders to essentially free float off to the side completely away from the handle and blades edge... As a righty i use compression locks the same type of way, rather then engaging the lock with my index like many folks do I actually use my middle finger... I find theres vary little hand repositioning this way, compared to using my index which i have to slightly adjust my hand positioning to engage compression locks with my index. if you can left hand reverse flick then you can also use your middle finger to disengage the lock... its basically the same hand positioning and its quite simple and vary natural once you start closing liner locks this way... I prefer it so much that It sometimes temps me to carry and use my liner lock knives left handed but I like consistency in my EDC so I always carry knives in my right pocket. but well lounging at home fidgeting with knfas, I tend to left hand fidget my liner locks as its just a much smoother and more fidgety operation left handed then right imho.

When closing a liner lock, I use the corner portion of my thumb nail to find a groove in the liner lock and push in. I find it easier and more comfortable to use the top part of my thumb rather than the pad (bottom) of the thumb. Enjoy your Ace Grand

I recently popped my micarta cherry too. I got a Kizer In-Yan & Maxace Goliath. The micarta does feel warm and soft. I like it. My thumb tip and index tip are calloused from flicking my knives so much. Most of my knives are liner locks and I use my thumb to close them. It did get sore for a while, now, it’s like a rock. Keep flicking mate, your fingers will adjust.

Nice blade...Giant Mouse makes some great knives. Micarta is great for handle scales, will patina to a distinct finish that is unique to you, and feels much better in hand than G10 or FRN. For liner lock, I use my thumb to disengage lock, then lower blade past detent, then flick shut. Can be a fidget monster once you figure out where the detent breaks and everything is broken in. I've collected knives for 10 years. I have never closed a liner the way you do. But as a lefty I may have to start closing them like you do with the index finger. Sorry the omega spring broke on your Bugout. I love the axis lock just a hair more than the compression lock. But the omega spring is the axis lock's Achilles heel. In 10yrs & multiple knives only 1 spring broke on me. I would say try the Griptillian if you're willing to give Benchmade another chance, or Spydedco Manix so you can try the ball bearing lock. Still fidget friendly.

I like to release liner with my thumb, keep thumb there so blade stops against my thumb nail, index finger pressing on blade spine. If past detent ball a knife with smooth action drops closed when removing fingers. If not past detent and/or blade not fall shut I remove thumb and pressure of index finger flings blade close. Normally prefer and do 2nd method on all my liner locks anyway.

He needs a button lock knife to keep a very high fidget factor … and I definitely don’t think he could go wrong with Protech’s Mordax as a working knife (still available on Amazon) or the Malibu as a slightly smaller EDC.

The Malibu is a great knife to fidget with and just regular (light) EDC tasks, but I wouldn't recommend it as a hard use work knife because the handle size is rather small, even for me with medium/larger sized hands I don't feel I have enough length to hold on.

You need to convert that measure system to how many glazed donuts to Freedom Eagles. Grams are for the cartel.

You can always buy a 3rd party deep carry pocket clip for the Shaman. Also, that ZT framelock looks like it got some nasty lock stick. Shouldn't be that hard to unlock with your thumb.

The grand doesn't have enough of a cut out on the show side to make using your thumb comfortable. On top of that the jimping on the lockbar is quite sharp. So it's not you, it's the knife.

Framelocks and linerlocks are usually not fidgety knives. You're better off with a button lock, a shark lock, and maybe a back lock.
