A look inside the Bruderhof. We're a bunch of families and children, singles and older people living together in Christian community. This documentary shows how we share our money, possessions, and try to live our lives like the first Christians as described in the Acts of the Apostles.
Visit the Bruderhof website at www.bruderhof.com
The Bruderhof was founded in Germany in 1920, and was one of dozens of communities that sprang up in the aftermath of the First World War. Over the next ten years the movement grew rapidly, with people joining from Austria, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.
Because of the community's non-violent beliefs and refusal to support the Nazi Party, Hitler's Gestapo raided the community in 1937 and forced them to leave the country within 48 hours.
Bruderhof members take lifetime vows of obedience and poverty. Anyone who wishes to become a member gives away his or her property before joining, and contributes his or her talents to stand on an equal footing with all brothers and sisters.
There are now more than twenty Bruderhofs worldwide.

An absolutely beautiful community. Growing up, the Bruderhof's that lived near us always tried to include the locals within their culture and festivities. They did all of this without trying to "cram" their faith down anyone's neck. It was just good people having a great time without expectations.

I just visited a Bruderhof community in Nonnington. I have never met such wonderful people and was welcomed with open arms. I’ve even made a new friend within the community and she’s amazing. I am not Christian or religious, but I like so much of the spirit of what this community seems to be about. Nowhere and no system is perfect, but compared to the problems faced in our modern society, I see a lot of good in how they live and try to treat one another. I like their emphasis on community: it is refreshing compared to our dominant individualistic culture.

I never knew anything about this group. I only learned about the Hutterites about 15 years ago by watching a documentary on TV. It’s interesting because my wife and I have been wanting to do something very similar within our faith but also have it be comprised of those who would foster and adopt. Our desire is to also include residences for the elderly in order to care for them and at the same time allow the elderly to have a greater purpose in life by getting involved with the youth and passing on to them positive experiences.

Why is it that in these places, men seem to be able to wear what they like and women always seem to have a uniform type thing? I know not the most important thing here, but just something that i see in communities, cults, many different religious contries etc, there seems to be a lot more control around the women down to wearing uniforms...

You don’t have to join a commune to have Christ. He died for EVERYONE and SALVATION is available to ALL. Jesus travelled and he told us to be in the world but not of it. So live among society but live a righteous life for Christ and spread the Good News to all you come across. The Holy Spirit is not strictly found on this farm. Or in a building. Or among a group of people. You could be stranded on a desert island and be the closest to Christ you’ve ever been. Or you can just be living in a studio apartment somewhere, working a 9-5 job, but serving Christ daily and living to bring glory to Him. It is how you choose to live your life whether it’s for yourself or God. Where you live is nowhere as important as how you live and who you live for.
@christiantrucker6296
@christiantrucker6296 2 жыл бұрын
@@Little_Devotchka you are 100 % correct. I am not judging their salvation by no means, I do see some concerning statements I've heard them make on a few other videos. They said they follow the guidelines Jesus laid out on the sermon on the mount, this entire sermon was to the people of Jewish faith for a time that has not come as of yet . It's for the thousand year reign of Christ. Jesus said himself "I did not come but for the lost sheep of Israel " . Factually Jesus told the disciples to NOT go unto the gentiles. Yes a few gentiles was saved after His death and resurrection but it wasn't until AFTER the stoning death of Steven (Stephen) and the conversion of Saul (Paul) that Paul was ordained by Jesus to be the apostle to the gentiles. This is why discernment and rightly dividing the scriptures is so very important . I was saved in 2018 in my semi truck in a rest area in Kansas at the age of 46. I had been taught so much misinformation before that made salvation seem like "say a simple prayer " or "get yourself cleaned up , stop sinning and come to Christ " When a person showed me 1st Corinthians 15: 1-4 and explained its not works or a "sinners prayer " or" just ask Jesus into your heart " that saves you. Like Paul my eyes was opened and I understood and believed and was saved that EXACT moment. EVERYTHING about me changed. Things I didn't have the power to change myself HE changed them. Jesus took away my foul language, cares for worldly things, the want to commit suicide and Jesus gave me a love and peace I never new existed. The Holy Spirit entered and a New Me Was Born. I conveyed my new discovery to my wife and although she was skeptical at first , she studied it for herself and came to salvation through Christ also a few days later. Our lives have NEVER been better. Thank you Jesus!!! Now that being said we believe 100% the Bible IS THE INFALLIBLE WORD OF GOD. You must use as I said discernment, rightly dividing the word and see the different DISPENSATIONS. GOD did not deal with ALL groups the same. The LAW was ONLY given to the Hebrew people not the Gentiles. Now after salvation we want to follow Gods law because we love Him and are thankful for his Grace and Gift of Salvation. JESUS FULFILLED THE LAW. As far as their other statement in another video of preparing the kingdom, that happens after the Harpozo (Rapture) and the 7 years of tribulation or Jacob's trouble. Then Christ returns to set up His kingdom and thousand years reign. HE (JESUS) sets up HIS kingdom, man has no place or ability to set up HIS kingdom. ONLY JESUS!!!!!! By teaching anything else you are teaching against God's word!!!!! Neither the apostle John nor apostle Paul in any of their writings said ANYTHING contrary to that either. Nor did the apostle John's student Polycarp or any other 1st century church fathers even mention preparing a kingdom. Seems that by the statements in several of their videos they are trying to "fit" themselves into the dispensation time line of the Hebrew (Jewish) people and NOT into the church (ecclesia) time of Grace that has continued for 2000 years. Their continued mention of the pentecost and afterward time when the disciples tried their communal living has nothing to do with the Gospel that was given LATER to the gentiles via PAUL. It was for shelter because of the persecution by the Pharisees. You do see that this didn't last long. Right? By doing this the disciples wasn't going out to spread the Gospel as they was told too. They keep mentioning the book of Acts not realizing Acts is a TRANSITIONAL book. Going from just Jewish people to Gentiles. I urge you to watch Brother ROBERT BREAKER's video on Dispensations in the Bible I believe it will be a blessing to you. Although I do understand the draw to come together and celebrate Christ and live with fellow believers. It's hard in this wicked world but if we are not out here amongst the lost and instead sheltering ourselves then HOW will they find the truth? How are WE setting an example or being a reflection of HIS light? You do not hide Your Light under a bucket but let it shine for ALL to see. No Man living in the Flesh seeks out God on their own, we are to walk in HIS ways being an example to the lost, planting and watering the seeds of faith just as we are to bring the Jew to jealousy so they also will believe in JESUS (YESHUA).

This seems really cool, I like the idea of communal living. I would just be concerned with connections being lost with people outside the Bruderhof seems like it could become a little isolating. I feel like if the kids attended regular schools they could have more exposure to other ways of life and thinking which would be beneficial. Is it flexible for members as to how involved they are in the community? Like could they live there but still have a regular job or send their kids to a regular school?

Hi Bianca! Many of us are very involved in the wider community. It's not at all isolating. But members work on the community and send their kids to the community schools. Kids do have opportunities to interact with folks outside the community in many different ways with sports teams and so forth.

@Bara I know they're allowed to leave legally, but they don't really leave with the blessing of the community. They are clearly regarded as having broken their vow of lifelong membership. That should be okay and it would probably attract a lot more people.

Good question. Work is the most important way we can put what we say we believe into practice. Living and working on the Bruderhof is 100% voluntary and if someone would prefer not to work to the best of their ability they'd be welcome to try their luck elsewhere.

Hi Marek, Start by taking a look at what Bruderhof membership means (www.bruderhof.com/en/our-faith/membership). Then come for a visit! That’s the best way to have your questions answered and see who we are. Melinda, Fox Hill Bruderhof

Hi , I have a good question for you , as a progressive i have been following the Bruderof for some time now at least i have known of you for some time, you are an alternative Christian community and I know that you are a people that try to live in community with one another in peace and in harmony as much as humanly possible but people are not perfect and i suppose that there are times when domestic issues take place between members just like in any other human community around the world, and what i what to know is how do you deal with this , and do you ever have to call in the outside authorities , i know that the police are a necessary fact of life here where i live because it is a society uncommitted to peace but unfortunately and especially true in non white and lower income areas the police cause more problems a good part of the time only adding fuel to the fire so to speak as we can plainly see in the recent news headlines of our times lately , massive incarceration never seems to solve any of our social and domestic issues , I am just wondering how domestic issues are dealt with in a alternative christian community based on peace like your own. And I think that this is a very constructive and important question to ask because outside of your community we don't have it together and maybe we can learn something from you.

Alan, great question and one that's going to be hard to answer here in the comments. Why don't you shoot us an email at contact@bruderhof.com and then I'll be able to forward it on to someone who can discuss this further with you. -Red Zimmerman

Is it possible to be an Orthodox Christian and live and be accepted in a Bruderhof?

We are "small-o orthodox" in our beliefs. You can read more about our faith on our website: take a look here www.bruderhof.com/en/our-faith and here www.bruderhof.com/en/our-faith/foundations. And then let us know if you have further questions, or want to visit us.

what does it cost to leave the bruderhof?
@Bruderhof
@Bruderhof 7 жыл бұрын
Read this part from our Foundations document: “Because vows of membership are made to God, no human being has the authority to dissolve them. Accordingly, if members leave our fellowship, the church community has no obligation to return any property or to remunerate them for the labor or anything else they may have contributed while they lived within it. To do so would violate the vow to renounce all possessions. Any who are unsure about such a commitment should rather stay away, keep what is theirs, and leave us in peace. “While we are accountable to God and our brothers and sisters for our vows, no one should remain in our church community who does not do so “with joy and to the delight of his soul.” Members who leave our fellowship are provided with transitional support. Such assistance is not a right, but is offered at the discretion of the church community, as an expression of its continuing love.” You can also read this if you’re interested in learning more about our membership vows: www.bruderhof.com/en/our-faith/foundations/church-order/our-vows
