I paid $3,380 for materials and built an inground 8' x 36' saltwater lap pool that is 4' 3" deep with 4 jets, 4 -12 volt LED lights, skimmer, 3/4 horsepower pump, and a fabric filter. It has 2' x 2' tile over a concrete base with concrete block walls. I added 3,000 feet of rebar to the floor and walls, and filled all the blocks. Pool contractors NEVER recommend that anyone does anything by themselves. Want to plug in your toaster? Better call a contractor!

We have been considering doing our own pool! I own and run a concrete business! Did you happen to take a video of your process building the saltwater pool? 😂 I loved your comment about the toaster! We don't recommend anyone pouring walls for a home either, especially without the right tools! But a pool, pretty much everything is available for the diy'er! :)

I’ve build a pool and we did the work ourselves using common sense and did a concrete surface with a liner and it works great. The concrete was used for surface and wasn’t meant to keep water in and did it with a few thousand dollars but not 10s of thousands.

He is full of shit. Cynic liner pool kits are a hell of a lot cheaper than he’s saying. Hell, you can get the vinyl liner pool installed completely for what he’s saying the kit cost. Plus, I’ve installed my own 18x36 pool. They are very simple for anyone with a little bit of DIY ability

There was also no mention of how a concrete pool has to be resurfaced every so many years as well. Usually 10-15 years

Depends on how you take care of it. There many 20 year old concrete pools that have never been resurfaced.

I want a pool that has steps leading into the pool, 3' to 3' 6" deep on one end and 7' deep on the other. I mainly just want to be able to do exercises in the pool and tread water, so small pool would be fine. No water features, no slide and no diving board. Are fiberglass pools made this way? Do rectangle pools differ in price from traditional or free-form?

Covid creates this new business model. They hire less help, put out less product, but makeup for it by charging 3 times as much. Once competition heats back up, these things would change.

I have a fibreglass pool which I did myself 10 years ago great for 5 yrs then you have to repaint it blue 3 days sanding down 2 days to repaint lots of mess next time I'm gone buy a liner 1 days work
