Concord makes me cry. I think of the illusions to concord being related to how distant his love is. Concord was a beautiful idea. Many people admired from a far. That's what his love is like. He admired her for a far. He's distance from her. She's less a person and more an ideal. Like a dream. That's what the hill racer thing is about. He's chasing after her. Chasing after a connection. He's out of breath because of how much he's had to put in. The end I don't have any idea about but it's very poetic and quite beautiful

When they said that this album would go more a "track x" way, I didn't know what to think about it, but after listening to these three singles I'm completely sold. Your commentary videos are really good, I remember thinking after listening to this single "I wonder what professor skye think about this song". Keep up the good work!

I think the chorus may say something about the decrease in oxygen at high altitudes as a metaphor for emotional suffocation as the seriousness and responsibility (altitude) of a relationship increases. The third person idea might be as if he is looking down on himself from such high altitude/from a plane.

That idea also seems like it could relate to the album title - people look like ants from high in the sky

I scubscribed and PRESSED the 'like bucket' long ago. I'm back in time with ya now, 'cos I just had a flashback to this review and something of that esprit de l'escalier that comes with older age. Anyways, the original Concorde song here in the UK was this - by And the Native Hipsters. called 'There goes Concorde'. I've not posted the link 'cos I think youtubers don't like that. But I posted this 'cos I thought of you when I listened again this evening, and thought you might like it. Cheers from Blighty x ps l love BCNR's Concorde too x

The Atkins-bread song connection! Brilliant. I really loved this one. I can't put my finger on it but it really feels like a sun teetering on the horizon, either about to set or rise. The prechorus gets me too. The "odd waltz" description is fitting, it gives the rising feeling of drifting away, like a planet and a moon's distancing circles until they leave each other's orbits for the last time. The crescendo at the end hasn't made me cry yet but it's getting close. First time I listened I felt like i was watching someone watch their dog die.

My view of this song and I think the album is a slow burn breakup, just the little things that slowly and more painfully tear you apart, like the bread crumbs in bread song its really a powerful and harsh tone. This song itself has such a beautiful wordplay with the double meaning on concorde as a metaphor, with the concorde and the girl meaning each other at different points and overlapping each other its really brilliant songwriting. Favourite song so far.

I’m obsessed by this song. I love the “light blue sleeper” line. I have another interpretation - he is sleeping badly because he is lovesick i.e. light = is disturbed/awoken easily, blue = sad. I think it’s cool to think of this “darker” meaning alongside the alternative meaning of him daydreaming happily looking up at concorde under the blue sky in the daylight. It’s a nice contrast and sums up the feeling of lovesickness well.

I was afraid how this new project of theirs would pan out because track X was my least favourite song in the debut and they said that was the direction they were going, but these singles show just how versatile they are. Loved all of them and can't wait for the full record

Thank you, professor. It's so brave of you to analyze these lyrics and telling people that is ok when things are opaque and obscure, but nonetheless beautiful. And the Egomania thing in his lyrics are, like you said and what I believe, a way of fictionalizing the self... that's very clear in, I remember of it instantly, Karl Ove Knausgaard books. That's where I learned more about fiction/reality and the ambushes that it all may cause.

I really enjoyed your interpretation! I didnt read the song as a metaphor for a long distance relationship. I think the song is told over a long stretch of time from two different perspectives. A parental figure and their son Isaac throughout the song come to terms wird loosing a parent/ partner to cancer (this new organ has grown so persistent on you). The Concorde is in my Interpretation the thing Isaac remembers of their parent, which is that they liked / loved Planes - specifically the Concorde. This would then explain why running up a hill would bring back memories of the person they lost and help them reconnect if only for a moment. „What a funny was to talk“ might just be the thoughts of the child not understanding what the diagnosis means. I gotta admit I am omitting some parts of the song to fit this narrative, but I do enjoy that the songs message isnt crystal clear. (Also Isaac will suffer is the parental figure looking into the future, realizing how horrible the near future will ne for their son)

i find the bassline super interesting towards the end of this piece, concorde as well, to me, is a modern day icarus. it was so lauded, and flew so fast, and failed.

The Concorde was a failure. It had major issues throughout development and it’s greatest legacy was that it crashed and burned. This relationship, the “Concorde” is doomed to failure. But he’s invested too much emotionally to give up on it. It’s gonna have to crash and burn before he can give up on it.

I feel like the lyrics / vocals are the weak point for this band- the sort of self conscious stuff you might write at 18 trying to reach for poetics but falling some way short. Not wanting to be too negative but the musical ideas and approach carry more weight for me.

Respectfully disagree, I think Issac is a top-tier front man in the making. His vocal delivery really does it for me and I find his lyrics playful, refreshing and not too self-serious. I tend to enjoy writers who make the mundane spectacular and I think he falls under that category.
